<ukky> SiFuh: Nice to get you back safely.
<SiFuh_> ukky: Yeah, they upgraded me to business class at the last moment. So I was not happy to be sitting at the front of the aircraft but the staff were so lovely and I spent a lot of time in the tail section gossipping with the staff.
<SiFuh_> Shame I didn't get chance to meet remiliascarlet though. Would have been cool to hangout.
<SiFuh_> zorz: Ebay refunded me.
<SiFuh_> zorz: The seller from Germany didn't post within the specific time. When I requested a refund he decided to post it the next day. When the product arrived it was the wrong size. I sent many messages and even Ebay sent messages and he ignored them. So Ebay refunded me but never asked me to post the product back.
<ukky> But you said that you met remiliascarlet...
<SiFuh_> ukky: Met some people that work in a bar in Tokyo. One is coming to Malaysia in March. I will go to meet her. Maybe take her off-road as well or just camping. Her boss has a Japanese friend that drives 4x4 off-road in Malaysia. So I will make a plan to meet him also. The motorcycle shop in Tokyo wants Kangaroo leather for his riding gear. The month, I will call a friend and have several hides sent to
<SiFuh_> me. I will forward some to him. He said he a guy that can make the jacket and pants for him.
<SiFuh_> ukky: No it was sarcasm
<SiFuh_> ukky: I had one whole day free for meet with her but as I said above a few days back she had said "We will see" and she is also very busy. So it was a shot in the dark. So next time.. Better she comes here.
<ukky> SiFuh_: didn't get it was sarcasm.
<SiFuh_> In the end, I just stayed in the hotel, drank beer, washed my clothes and then went for a wander around the city again. Then after went to meet the family and also went to the bar.
<SiFuh_> ukky: All good, it was for remiliascarlet anyway. She'd have got it.
<SiFuh_> ukky: When we arrived in Tokyo, I left the family to do my own thing. Then several days later I appeared on the street as they were going to dinner. They were all shocked. Had not seen me for several days and suddenly I am there ready and waiting.
<SiFuh_> My wife says "That's how he is. Just gone, dissappears, then reappears at the right time"
<ukky> SiFuh_: Ha. The Return of the Great SiFuh was the first thought your family had.
<SiFuh_> ukky: My wife says to me "How did you know to come at this time?" I said "Easy, your Chinese. Asians just eat and eat and eat all the time"
<SiFuh_> ukky: Her family was asking where I was 3 days early and she said she doesn't know. On day two they were worried and she said "You don't worry about him. He can take care of himself anywhere on planet earth" HAHAHA
<SiFuh_> ukky: My wife bought me a new 4x4. But it is not the correct model Land Cruiser I wanted
<SiFuh_> ukky: zorz: remiliascarlet: https://s3.amazonaws.com/i.snag.gy/H5z4WI.jpg
<SiFuh_> ukky: Maybe remiliascarlet can find for me. 1990, 70 series, hard top, Land Cruiser Jeep (Bundera)
<ukky> SiFuh_: I don't know what animals or birds your jungle has, but some people get paid for being guides to others doing photography. Maybe you might be interested. Besides doing 4×4 off-road trips.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I am most towards teaching survival. But yes, it is a good idea because I know weather, terrain, animals and plants quite well.
<SiFuh_> ukky: In the mid 90's I use to teach Australian Bush Survival to the emergency services in my area.
<SiFuh_> ukky: Two days ago, I was pissed off at the snobby British-Australian woman. She was just lying through her teeth. She was telling the Japanese man about the Tiger Snake. "The most poisonous snake in Australia". She is clearly out of her mind. The Western Taipan/Central Taipan/Fierce Snake is not only the most poisonous snake in Australia and the world it makes the Tiger snake look like a puppy.
<ukky> SiFuh_: Model no.38 looks like Toyota Highlander to me
<SiFuh_> ukky: If you are bitten by the Western Taipan. It will kill you. The anti-venom will kill you too. So they let the poison take over, then the anti-venom, then the poison, then anti-venom again for 4 days.
<SiFuh_> After that. You can't get bitten again because you WILL die. Although I know a couple of people who have survived several bites from this snake.
<SiFuh_> ukky: It's the ugly new model.
<ukky> That's killing technique of healing from a snake bite
<SiFuh_> ukky: I bought my wife a bottle open from Honda ;-) So she can open my beers
<SiFuh_> ukky: I personally know a guy bitten 4 times and had to go through that 4 times. He is as a tough as they come. But his organs are fubared ;-)
<ukky> SiFuh_: I think I'm gonna stay in Canada. In Winter. Frozen. D
<ukky> SiFuh_: We don't have much dangers here, maybe bears, wolves. But no poisonous snakes or spiders.
<SiFuh_> ukky: My nose bleeds in the cold dry air.
<SiFuh_> ukky: But you have Sasquatch ;-)
<ukky> Cold dry air is heaps better that cold humid air. You will freeze at 0° Celcius.
<ukky> SiFuh_: Sasquatch: Haha. We have yet to see it.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I was looking for Yuki-Otoko, Hibagano in the mountains of Yamagata. It is how I got frostbite on my left food.
<SiFuh_> Foot*
<SiFuh_> ukky: I have seen twice in Australia and my father (American) was thrown by one in Australia. We call them Yowie.
<ukky> Like survival in jungle or desert, you have to know how to survive in cold weather. zorzing you, sorry.
<SiFuh_> ukky: In fact, where I was born is where the most Yowie sightings are in Australia. Even the highway at each end says "Beware of the Yowie" and truckers do not stop on that road at all during the night.
<SiFuh_> ukky: All good. I didn't get full frostbite. I felt it the second it was happening. So because I caught it so fast, I was able to stop it from completing its course.
<SiFuh_> I was wearing Australian Cowboy boots. So they got wet during my stomping.
<ukky> Japan has probably very humid Winters.
<SiFuh_> So I quickly warmed up my toes and changed socks and boots to something more appropriate. Then warmed then in the sink when I got home to the hotel. Was limping only one day.
<SiFuh_> ukky: It was very dry.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I'd empty half a box of tissues with blood because it was so dry and crispy
<ukky> Hm. Strange.
<SiFuh_> Shanghai is the same.
<SiFuh_> Kyrgystan wasn't like this. I think only one day had bleeding the rest was fine
<ukky> Weren't you in Tokyo?
<SiFuh_> ukky: Tokyo is where the worst happened. Yamagata not so bad.
<SiFuh_> We all preferred the outskirts. No one liked Tokyo. Besides, too many assholes in Tokyo.
<ukky> SiFuh_: We had -20°C this morning.
<SiFuh_> Damn! I think it was -14 when I woke up at 5 am. But usually once you get to the lower digits it becomes less cold I found.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I spent most of my time wearing a T-Shirt and a shirt or hoodie.
<SiFuh_> ukky: But I kind of cheated though. When it was really cold, I was wearing a scuba diving vest underneath :-P
<SiFuh_> I was sweating more than freezing :-P
<SiFuh_> A Neoprene vest
<SiFuh_> I was getting strange looks when I was walking around with my sleeves rolled up like I was a Russian in Summer time.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I told the wife that the most important thing is layers in cold climate survival and not a jacket. So she was wearing many layers. Also I told her only wear warm outside not inside. Not even in the vehicle. So her entire family followed my guidelines.
<ukky> SiFuh_: When I was young I used to run 10K every morning, with bare chest, only touque and gloves on upper body, with lowest -28°C in Winter.
<ukky> SiFuh_: You are right, layers is the way to survive in a very cold weather.
<SiFuh_> Bare chest, you were crazy.
<SiFuh_> ukky: And never sweat. If you sweat you must remove layers. Because sweat can freeze
<ukky> SiFuh_: All youngsters are crazy, so yeah
<SiFuh_> But you probably know that already.
<ukky> SiFuh_: You can sweat, but your inner layer cannot be made of cotton.
<SiFuh_> ukky: Yep. I was wathing the snow boarders going down the banned side of the mountain so slowly. I said to the driver. "If that was me in the 90's. I'd be flying down that hill. Over that mound and smash into those cars. Because I could. Broken bones? No problem. Just do it" and he was laughing.
<SiFuh_> ukky: First day was cotton. And it was most comfortable because of the Neoprene vest. Second day Nylon and Polyester and the sweat was uncomfortable.
<SiFuh_> ukky: But yes. You lose more heat with cotton and when it is wet it freezers very fast.
<ukky> SiFuh_: Cotton is the worst material when you sweat in the cold.
<SiFuh_> ukky: Agree but it is most comfortable :-P
<ukky> SiFuh_: Cotton is the least comfortable when you sweat in the cold.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I think because the Neoprene was so tight it rendered the cotton idea moot.
<ukky> SiFuh_: Cotton expands a lot when it is wet. You cannot make cotton tight, it will always stretch and makes wrinkles and then you get blisters.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I went to the bar with the driver and he asked me why I am not cold. I told him that I have a secret. When I showed him that under my clothing is a scuba diving vest he laughed then asked "Does it work?" and I said "Of course, or we'd not be talking about it now"
<SiFuh_> ukky: Ohhhh my pants are moleskin. Cotton like jeans but better nitted together. They worked awesome. German Military.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I have always used moleskin in winter because the wind just doesn't go through it.
<SiFuh_> Jeans on day one. Kind of sucked. Moleskin every other day. Bloody awesome!
<ukky> SiFuh_: The only acceptable material is wool when you sweat. Running in cold weather, at -30°C, for 5 or 6 hours straight, only layers from artificial materials and wool can make it happen.
<ukky> s/acceptable material/acceptable natural material/
<SiFuh_> Wool is my favorite but I won't wear it. Hahaha
<SiFuh_> ukky: Try a neoprene vest. I only brought it for test and I loved it!
<ukky> Wool expands too, like cotton, but it doesn't attracts moisture and sweat goes through it.
<SiFuh_> I ahd to roll my sleeves down to stop people staring at me because I was walking around like I was in Malaysian weather.
<SiFuh_> ukky: Wool is awesome. But some kinds are just to itchy to wear.
<ukky> SiFuh_: Wear wool as second layer.
<SiFuh_> I was actually looking for wool before I left Malaysia. Ended up sticking with the Scuba Diving vest.
<SiFuh_> ukky: No. It still itches. My favorite wool is Bluebell.
<ukky> Merino wool is good as second layer.
<SiFuh_> ukky: I have a military shirt from North Korea made of wool. It never fades, never stretches, and it is freaking awesome. Looks like a normal shirt.
<SiFuh_> But I got bigger from meat diet so I can't fit it anymore. :-(
<SiFuh_> I wish I can find again but. North Korea, not easy to get your hands on their uniforms
<SiFuh_> ukky: I will go jungle 29th and not back until 2nd
<ukky> SiFuh_: That's roughly translates into 15 liters of beer. Doable.
<SiFuh_> ukky: 14-16th I will take KKM (CDC equivalent) to camping. and 21-25 I will 4x4 off-road.
<SiFuh_> ukky: We often joke that SiFuh only joins KKM (CDC) to make sure everyone is safe.

<farkuhar> SiFuh_: In CRUX 3.8 they're delegating the mount commands differently, between the supervising startup script and a child process: https://git.crux.nu/ports/core/commit/d1ff6504e88b99aa45abc8ce48c600eba07c2b07 Will you have to refactor your old work on /etc/rc{,.shutdown} (patches that were submitted but never merged)?
