<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh_: I watched a video about it not so long ago. It stated that the reason why Microsoft "loves" Linux now after having it called a "cancer" 2 decades ago is because they realized they can no longer compete in the consumer market. So instead they are competing in the developer market, which is also why they acquired Github in 2018, and released a stipped down Chromium website called "VS
<remiliascarlet>
Code".
<remiliascarlet>
I don't remember the exact video, but I know it had something to do with why VS Code is so popular these days.

<SiFuh_>
Err.... Doesn't that mean deport everyone who is here illegally since illegally entering the US is a crime?
<SiFuh_>
ukky: So if Trudeau stepped down then that would be the first time since the 60's where a member of the Castro family has not been in power in the Western Hemisphere.

I was painting the fender flares. They knocked it over two weeks ago when I was prepping it with layers. Then when I put the first coat on, I noticed finger prints in the paint. Then when I sanded and resprayed I noticed someone put their finger prints in it again. And again. And again. So I told the wife to tell _them_ to stop _FUCKING_ touching my stuff! Then the next day the wife comes home and
<SiFuh_>
drops a pile of folders on my freshly painted fender flares. So I re-sand everything again and start from scratch and now the freaking nephew goes and knocks them over.
<zorz>
practising on sand re-sand like karate-kid
<zorz>
heh
<SiFuh_>
Funny you say that. It's exactly what I was thinking "Wax on! Wax off"
<SiFuh_>
zorz: As for the car door. They didn't want me to panel beat the door. Just remove the rust and stop it from rusting. So it only needed a sand, prime, spray and two-pack enamel gloss coat. I beat the rain. They can take it tomorrow. Later bring back for a cut and polish. But not important.
<SiFuh_>
They didn't want me to panel beat because it would require a bit of preparation and some time to fill it. But I laughed and said if I don't and just prime, spray and gloss the gloos is going to make those dents stand out. They said they don't care as long as the car doesn't rust.
<SiFuh_>
So if you came, you'd have had nothing to do except drink beer. HAHAHA

SiFuh_: "Bahaha politicians are so retarded." I was just thinking, the extreme left considers people of color (POC) to be holy. Why do they apply double standards on Trump? Don't they call him "orange man", which makes him a person of color?
<SiFuh_>
remiliascarlet: You remind me of an old poem. I should find it.
<zorz>
SiFuh_: i am sick, i need miss america to cure me :P
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: What you refer to "being sick", is actually your body going through a detox cycle. It's a healing mechanism.
<SiFuh_>
remiliascarlet: Many people say it is a poem written by a Black African man. Some say Jamaican. But this doesn't make sense. When I first was made aware of this poem, I was in school and it came from Aboriginal literature.
<zorz>
remiliascarlet: i pretend to be sick for her, she is a future nurse
<remiliascarlet>
All the so-called "cures" do is make your next detox cycle even more unbearable, because it'll need to detox from both the previous and current session.

<SiFuh_>
No
<SiFuh_>
I don't trust your scripts.
<SiFuh_>

<zorz>
i need to try it in many files
<SiFuh_>
You leave my files alone with your dodgy, bodgy, scripts.
<zorz>
did you try?
<SiFuh_>
Never, I ain't no fool and my files are not taking any risks.
<zorz>
you are fool
<SiFuh_>
I very much doubt a a Covid-19 injected sheep can tell me an uninjected person that I am a fool for not blindly testing a script written by an injected on 16TB of my data.

<SiFuh_>
zorz: You know Johnson and Johnson had a lengthy court case about cancer causing talcum powder?
<SiFuh_>
It is easy to tell the morality of a company when they would rather fight in court to not give money to victims than rater admit they are wrong and compensate the victims.
<SiFuh_>
Especially when that company is suppose to be providing health care products.

<farkuhar>
SiFuh_: gvfs in the crux-xfce repo also does not require avahi. Somehow the OS on your meningococcal machine opted for "maximal" linking instead of a more stripped-down package. (Even if you built it from ports: https://github.com/openbsd/ports/blob/master/x11/gnome/gvfs/Makefile )
<SiFuh_>
gvfs-1.54.2
<farkuhar>
I might be misreading the OpenBSD Makefile. Does WANTLIB-* play the same role as optional dependencies in CRUX Pkgfiles?
<SiFuh_>
No
<SiFuh_>
It's more like arch linux GNU/Linux :-P make depends
<farkuhar>
So if you build gvfs from OpenBSD ports, you still get a dependency on avahi?
<SiFuh_>
This is what you should be looking at. LIB_DEPENDS-main= net/avahi,-glib
<SiFuh_>
That means the main gvfs depends on avahi-glib.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: OpenBSD port creators don't opt for stripped down ports generally. They prefer to have a fully functional port kind of like the Slackware full system being installed from the ISO.
<SiFuh_>
If anything is missing it probably because it is poorly written or can't operate on OpenBSD at all.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: Also this line FLAVOR?=no_smb no_goa no_nfs no_google no_onedrive bootstrap
<SiFuh_>
When you build the port you can choose to remove these options from the port build/install.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh_: Interesting that there's no FLAVOR to disable avahi, though.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: Not sure why. I can only think of two reasons. It might be needed for something behind the scenes or that a few of the guys at OpenBSD run OpenBSD on Apple computers.
<farkuhar>
I notice you didn't include a third reason: guys at OpenBSD might be drinking the Lemming Potter kool-aid.
<SiFuh_>
Yeah, but I doubt it.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: Surprised there is only one patch file to be honest. The OpenBSD guys often has to re-write and heavily patch a lot of stuff.
<zorz>
SiFuh_: yes i know about jonhson and αμιαντος
<SiFuh_>
zorz: You finished sulking?
<zorz>
sulking?
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: I also have pulseaudio here but it not being used. I wonder why it has been installed
<SiFuh_>
Ahhh... qtmultimedia-5.15.13pl2 mlt7-gpl2-7.24.0p0 qt6-qtmultimedia-6.6.3p0 So it must be for shotcut.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh_: I gave up on sndio in Linux, after finding it too hard to delegate audio output and input to two different hardware devices using the environment variables AUDIOPLAYDEVICE and AUDIORECDEVICE.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: Yeah, I know. I don't have a microphone on any of my OpenBSD machines so I was never able to test it.
<zorz>
sndio is for openbsd, linux is for alsa
<zorz>
simple use:P
<SiFuh_>
zorz: In Soviet Russia Linux is for ALSA
<SiFuh_>
zorz: I think you meant ALSA is for Linux.
<SiFuh_>
zorz: In Soviet Russia Libreoffice didn't install for you to have.
<farkuhar>
Where is ppetrov^ to follow up on the pkg-get wget issue? I wanted to tell him that wget is only needed if you specify the remote repository using ftp or http. Mounting a remote filesystem over nfs is another way to get the benefits of another machine's built packages, without wget.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: Something about Viagra. :-P Hahaha
<SiFuh_>

<zorz>

<SiFuh_>

<SiFuh_>
Good way to lose weight ;-) Shut the stomach down.
<SiFuh_>
zorz: I don't understand why people just don't stop eating sugar and actually get off their arse and do shit.
<SiFuh_>
zorz: You should have see farkuhar walking like a the Prince of Egypt through Penang.
<farkuhar>
Now if CRUX distro policy were more like OpenBSD's (fully functional ports rather than stripped down to minimal dependencies), then pkg-get could list both wget and nfs-utils as dependencies. But I think long-time CRUX users might object to such maximalism.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: I'd prefer flavours.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh_: Flavours are easier to support in a distro that has centralized binary packages. When every user is building from source, it's hard to keep the universe of possible flavours from growing out of control.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: If you type 'doas pkg_add vim' in OpenBSD, you will get asked which one do you want to install. Here are the list of choices https://dpaste.com/D6V7QNUTA.txt
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: /etc/mk.conf Is what OpenBSD uses for building. You can add your flavours there. ;-)
<zorz>
give me a strawberry flavour
<zorz>
:P
<SiFuh_>
FLAVOR="no_x11"
<zorz>
is editable?
<SiFuh_>
FLAVOR="no_x11 static mysql gtk2"
<farkuhar>
When I applied to be listed on the portdb several years ago, Tim criticized my inclusion of a separate port for mpd (FLAVOR="noviz"). He said the CRUX preference is for fluid Pkgfiles, able to inspect the local machine and adapt the build according to what is available.
<SiFuh_>
FLAVOR="no_x11" <-- I always added this line when building servers
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: Who died and made beerman the boss?
<farkuhar>
SiFuh_: Don't be so dramatic. Nobody has to die; they just have to stop pulling their weight, and someone like beerman will come in to fill the void.
<SiFuh_>
beerman has done many unconventional things that go against CRUX and the ports sytem. Romster too. So neither of them should complain about something they haven't done.
<SiFuh_>
I remember one port, I think it was libreoffice where beerman pulled poppler in. Built it inside of the libreoffice build but never installed poppler because it was only needed to build libreoffice.
<SiFuh_>
I thought it was quite clever and Romster did that with many rust things too.
<SiFuh_>
But when I asked beerman about a specific port (Can't remember). I was asking if I can use it for build only but not install it, he said that you are better off installing it as this is how CRUX likes it. (Paraphrasing).
<SiFuh_>
As a side note, and this is kind of important. There was a reason poppler had to be done that particular way though. I can't remember if it was to do with the latest poppler not allowing libreoffice to build so he was pulling in an older version or there was something that poppler was conflicting with and couldn't be installed.
