<SiFuh_> "No space lasers this time. Just hire a group of homeless guys. Ha ha ha. Either they go with the most secret state-of-the-art, most advanced technology, or a 100 bucks per homeless person" — (paraphrasing) Harrison Smith
<SiFuh_> remiliascarlet: Did you get the itinerary, I sent a couple of days ago in a PM?

<SiFuh_> That's a very nice knife
<SiFuh_> Pity they are over 36,000 JPY
<farkuhar> ppetrov^: did you see r0ni's screenshot of xfce4 on CRUX 3.8?
<SiFuh_> remiliascarlet: The knife laws in Japan suck
<ppetrov^> farkuhar, no
<ppetrov^> good r0ni
<ppetrov^> so, crux 3.8... are we there yet?
<ppetrov^> her, kernel 6.6.66
<SiFuh_> ppetrov^: jaeger specifically requested 6.6.62
<ppetrov^> thanks for the config, man
<ppetrov^> you're a life saver
<SiFuh_> Blur blur blur blur blur
<ppetrov^> huehuehue
<farkuhar> SiFuh_: the kernel that is loaded when you boot the official iso is built from a different config, https://git.crux.nu/system/iso/src/branch/3.8/kernel/linux-6.6.62.config ... I'd be curious to run a diff and see what jaeger changed.
<SiFuh_> farkuhar: They are not the same for a reason
<SiFuh_> farkuhar: linux-6.6.62.config <-- This is the kernel configuration used to create the kernel that boots the ISO image.
<SiFuh_> linux-6.6.62.defconfig <-- The default config for the linux kernel
<SiFuh_> https://gitlab.com/SiFuh/Documentation/-/blob/master/Kernel-Configs/config-6.6.62-modular <-- Not for booting the ISO image but to boot amd64_x86 machines with almost every module available.
<farkuhar> But not every driver built as a *.ko module. Some of them are configured as built-in (on the assumption that users will not be savvy enough to create an initramfs? or to know when an initramfs is needed?)

<SiFuh_> Yes
<ppetrov^> farkuhar, Slackware would require and initramfs and I always hated that additional complication step
<ppetrov^> and/an
<SiFuh_> an/a
<farkuhar> a/
<SiFuh_> Hehehe, good to see someone got it ;-)
<ppetrov^> i dont
<SiFuh_> ppetrov^: 'and/an/a/ ' <- ends with nothing because each final character was being erased
<ppetrov^> mmmmhm
<SiFuh_> 'ppetrov^/ppetrov/ppetro/ppetr/ppet/ppe/pp/p/ '
<ppetrov^> ye
<ppetrov^> i get it
<SiFuh_> ppetrov^: Well, you will last longer than zorz :-P
<ppetrov^> i don't get it
<ppetrov^> :P

<farkuhar> SiFuh_: I wonder what kind of system would fail to boot if your modular kernel were built with s/CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=y/CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=m/ and the user didn't create an initramfs.
<SiFuh_> farkuhar: All
<SiFuh_> Did I set that to Y ?
<SiFuh_> CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=y
<SiFuh_> Ahh I remember why I set that to yes.
<SiFuh_> I was working on a Beelink mini-PC Device and I wanted to have the option to boot the CRUX ISO from ESP.
<farkuhar> I have loop.ko under /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/driver/block but it rarely gets loaded. I can go for weeks without needing to modprobe it. Unlike SiFuh_ I'm not in the habit of dd'ing every spinning plastic disc to a file on my hard drive.
<SiFuh_> farkuhar: Also if I remember correctly you need loop to load RAM Disks.
<ppetrov^> i have modprobe loop in my rc.local
<SiFuh_> I remember back in the 90's when I some how loopbacked my hard disk from 127.0.0.1 and I was shocked "How the fuck did I double my hard disk space?" Hahaha

<SiFuh_> Woah, turpentine is here!
<serpente> hey fellas
<SiFuh_> Hey, fellow
<serpente> this whitequark irclog thing covers all channels and servers? i'm trying to see a log from oftc but shows nothing
<SiFuh_> No
<SiFuh_> The channel founder has to request whitequark logging and must modify their topic to inform them that it is being logged with the whitequark logger
<serpente> i see, and this _whitelogger is the bot who does it... i guess
<SiFuh_> Yes
<SiFuh_> It likes to be here and enjoy our highly irregular and abusive conversations and noises. ;-)
<serpente> sure, the channel it likes most
<serpente> heh
<SiFuh_> Yeah the guy who sits behind the _whitequark bot and reads everything being posted to this channel is clacking away on his typewriter laughing at our conversations, then curses out loud when farkuhar starts posting because he has to type so much and it doesn't make him laugh.
<serpente> and then?
<serpente> what about zorz
<SiFuh_> And then?
<SiFuh_> HAHAHAHAHA Shotgun Willy! Mosquito flying around the toilet bowl and I hit it straight away in mid flight.
<serpente> and then?
<SiFuh_> And then it got hit in the face with a urine shower
<SiFuh_> Suppose I'd better go pack my bags
