Quintero-Habana- has joined #crux-social
<Quintero-Habana-> fskc you zorzy
<Quintero-Habana-> fsck*
<Quintero-Habana-> I go back to Temerloh tonight
ppetrov^ has joined #crux-social
<ppetrov^> does anyone has a port for vlc?
<ppetrov^> blur blur blur blur
<Quintero-Habana-> No
<Quintero-Habana-> I have old ports for it and I use to maintain it
<Quintero-Habana-> But VLC became shit and everyone moved to MPV
<Quintero-Habana-> ppetrov^Yes there are two ports there. One is overkill. Has every fscking dependency known to man. So be careful which one you choose.
<Quintero-Habana-> blur blur blur blur blur
<ppetrov^> i have a computer with intel alder lake gpu
<ppetrov^> mpv and mplayer behave like shite
<Quintero-Habana-> Hmmm
<Quintero-Habana-> Blur blur blur blur
<ppetrov^> i have no idea what driver to use
<ppetrov^> i removed the i915
<ppetrov^> fuck it, will figure it out
<Quintero-Habana-> i915 is used at boot next to your initrd
<ppetrov^> should've aimed at radeon
<Quintero-Habana-> Usually a cpio image
<ppetrov^> i uninstalled the intel xorg driver
<ppetrov^> boots just fine
<Quintero-Habana-> Yes the intel CPIO and the i915 are suppose to be both used at boot time.
<Quintero-Habana-> ucode
<ppetrov^> do i need intel-ucode?
<Quintero-Habana-> Yes
<ppetrov^> hmm
<ppetrov^> thanks
<Quintero-Habana-> It is not for GPU though
<ppetrov^> yes, the cpu
<ppetrov^> and once installed, do i need to do any configuration?
<Quintero-Habana-> Basically as far as I understand it, it is a glorified fat packaged bug fix
<Quintero-Habana-> Nope, just add it to your boot initrd line
<ppetrov^> hmmm... any tutorial on how to do that
<Quintero-Habana-> Are you using SYSLINUX?
<ppetrov^> Grub2
<Quintero-Habana-> Then I don't know
<Quintero-Habana-> Grub and grub2 are just shit to me.
<ppetrov^> k
<ppetrov^> will check arch's wiki
<Quintero-Habana-> You basically add like you'd do with an initrd image
<Quintero-Habana-> The first one is kind of experimental. The cheat sheet is more correct. But the experimental page i wrote was used by farkuhar as reference for CRUX.
<ppetrov^> why did you change your nick?
<Quintero-Habana-> Because I am not in KL
<Quintero-Habana-> Wait
<Quintero-Habana-> I am in KL
<Quintero-Habana-> I am not at home
<Quintero-Habana-> I am using some shit laptop for a debt collection agency
<Quintero-Habana-> and it is freaking boring here so I decided to join channel hoping remiliascarlet would be here because she is always entertaining
<Quintero-Habana-> I think without her #crux-social would suck hahaha
<ppetrov^> now you are making the ladaball guy jealous
<Quintero-Habana-> although I think zorz is pretty cool even as bullshit as he is.
<Quintero-Habana-> I liked lavaball but he was a creepy dickhead
<ppetrov^> especially when he learned that remiliascarlet is agirlö
<ppetrov^> *a girl
<Quintero-Habana-> Yeah and I feel it was my fault because he didn't know until I mentioned it
<Quintero-Habana-> A cigar cutter on his dick would have probably sorted it. But remiliascarlet decided she had enough of him so she banned him.
<ppetrov^> yep, a woman of power
<Quintero-Habana-> She actually asked me in advanced if she could. I said basically you have the power. I won't police you.
<Quintero-Habana-> I think she was well within her rights to do so. So so be it.
<Quintero-Habana-> Then he private messaged me and holy shit he was bloody racist.
<ppetrov^> because she's Japanese?
<ppetrov^> racist fool
<Quintero-Habana-> Yeah, I sent some to remiliascarlet but  a lot I didn't because it was offensive to even me and I care not about most things
<ppetrov^> geez, man
<Quintero-Habana-> simplest way I can explain it. He went from creep to full on serial killer
<Quintero-Habana-> It takes a lot to phase me, but yeah, he pushed too hard in some shit and I was like "WHAT THE FUCK?"
<ppetrov^> impressive
<Quintero-Habana-> Insanity actually
<Quintero-Habana-> Anyway, I stand by her ban. I won't interfere at all.
<Quintero-Habana-> Besides, I think it was justified
<ppetrov^> right
<ppetrov^> has he tried to apologize to her?
<ppetrov^> hm, why do i ask...
<Quintero-Habana-> Nope
<Quintero-Habana-> i actually hate apologies because there is always an excuse or a reason after
<Quintero-Habana-> A simple sorry is fine. No need for anything that follows
<Quintero-Habana-> When they have a reason or excuse it no longer feels like an apology
<ppetrov^> kinda good point
ppetrov^ has quit [Quit: Leaving]

stratofall has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]
<zorz> ppetrov^: check vaapi and vdpau compile them with them
stratofall has joined #crux-social
<ppetrov^> mplayer has no vaapi option
<zorz> libva-devel libvdpau-devel
<ukky> ppetrov^: what happens when you use mpv? Slow frame rate?
<ppetrov^> no picture at all
<ukky> you could append '-v -v' to your mpv command line to check what it complains about. And then go from there.
<ukky> ppetrov^: also, if your GPU is missing some firmware at boot, your dmesg should have messages about that.
<ppetrov^> ukky, good point
<ppetrov^> will check
<ppetrov^> in general, the whole xfce does not run nice and smooth on 4k
<ukky> Does i915 kernel driver support your Intel GPU?
<farkuhar> zorz: Why does the Void template have libmpcdec-devel among makedepends, but then calls ./configure with --disable-musepack? Someone failed to notice the inconsistency there.
<zorz> i ve god no idea man
<farkuhar> Also contradictory is the --disable-cdparanoia flag, despite claiming libcdio-paranoia-devel among makedepends.
<zorz> just say to ppetrov the problem might be va vdpau
<zorz> in both players.
<zorz> lets see and the mpv template
<zorz> this has build options, i compile it with alsa, vdpau and x11
<farkuhar> If they were going to call ./configure with --disable-cdparanoia --disable-musepack --disable-speex, then they could have dropped the corresponding *-devel packages from makedepends.
<farkuhar> Over in #crux-devel they're dealing with the fallout from beerman's decision to switch opt/git from the autotools build system to meson. But nobody is pausing to celebrate the fact that 2.47 -> 2.48 fixed the issue where building git on CRUX-MUSL required NO_REGEX=NeedsStartEnd in the make command.
<ukky> zorz: my mpv is compiled without vdpau for nvidia K2000
<farkuhar> Actually, if any of the #crux-developers had been running CRUX-MUSL as their daily driver, maybe we would have seen NO_REGEX=NeedsStartEnd in the official opt/git Pkgfile, rather than hidden away in the overlays of adventurous souls like SiFuh and emmett1.
<ukky> meson is bad.
<farkuhar> core/kmod is another port that could easily accommodate alternatives to glibc (now that jaeger is going through the trouble to support also zstd-compressed modules). Just provide the portable-basename.patch along with the port, but only apply the patch if `prt-get isinst glibc` fails.
<ukky> SiFuh: remiliascarlet: Is there a way to connect to external CVS repo through corporate proxy? My company blocks all ports but http/https/ftp which go through company' proxy server.
<zorz> ukky: wait ahahha i will ask deepseek, and deepseek says yes! https://0x0.st/8PeV.txt
<zorz> ukky: No1 and No2 look ok.
<ukky> zorz: thanks. I will try method 1. For SSH tunneling (method 2), it may not work.
<zorz> wait to ask it to analyze it lets see
<zorz> and example work flow https://0x0.st/8Pex.sh
<zorz> ukky: chinese tech :P
<ukky> Tried PaleMoon (web browser) briefly on NetBSD. One thing I noticed it uses GTK2. Firefox on the same system uses GTK3.
<zorz> ukky: one good option for browser is tor-browser aswell.
<zorz> but a few days ago i compiled firefox 134, i think they improved performance alot.
<farkuhar> Using GTK2 rather than GTK3 ... sounds like they're trying to appeal to ppetrov^
<farkuhar> zorz: you waited until a few days ago to compile firefox 134? You could have waited a few more days, and then you'd have been able to compile firefox 135.
<farkuhar> Or maybe zorz has such a slow computer, the firefox 134 build job that he started back in mid-January took until a few days ago to finish. With that kind of hardware, I wouldn't blame him for skipping a few releases.
<ppetrov^> the palemoon guys offended Slackware some years back, and thus lost my respect
<zorz> farkuhar: hahaha
<zorz> farkuhar: its was 135
<zorz> :P
<zorz> I meant 135
<zorz> :P
<zorz> firefox --full-version
<zorz> Mozilla Firefox 135.0 20250205020139 20250205020139
<zorz> it takes 30 min to compile
<ppetrov^> zorz, what is your hardware
<zorz> ryzen7 5800h
<zorz> 16g ram
<zorz> ppetrov^: 10min for the kernel.
