<heat> nikolar, doing what you mentioned is INSANELY SLOW
<heat> for some reason
<nikolar> larger writes?
<heat> yep. very weird
<heat> even touching a little of the font drawing murders perf
<nikolar> maybe it's doing something stupid, like updating the screen on every byte written
<nikolar> even though it's supposed to be a single operation
<nikolar> is it slower on hardware too?
<heat> probably not
<nikolar> interesting
<heat> quite weird, i wonder if qemu is playing weird games with the framebuffer

<kazinsal> also I don't think I have an outlet that will run that
<geist> these sound like excuses
<kazinsal> I've already been thinking about how to best make room in my car so I can pillage both Re-PCs and the Redmond goodwill
<kazinsal> because I've heard stories about people finding all sorts of wacky shit at the Redmond goodwill

* kof673 <builds binutils for aarch64><builds ghetto gcc with no libs or headers, --disable-shared as well><builds musl><finds libgcc is needed><cobbles together libgcc with blank .o files for missing things using pthreads><both gcc and scc can target this now, and hello, world runs with qemu usermode> <goes to repeat for riscv64><discovers no qemu riscv64 user-mode emulation> :/
<the_oz> would gcc act more sane if -ffreestanding?
<kof673> i dunno, i am just screwing with scc. i was just proud i found a way to cobble together libgcc that is good enough for hello, world lol
<the_oz> oh I guess it depends on musl
<heat> there's definitely qemu riscv64 user mode emulation
<kof673> hmm..i didn't look hard enough then, good, then i will build a modern one
<heat> as for libgcc... yeah musl technically needs libgcc, gcc needs to be massaged into compiling a libc-less libgcc when these types of builds are involved
<heat> libc_options="--without-headers --with-newlib --disable-shared --disable-threads"
<kof673> musl i got away with --disable-shared too, but when you go to build a binary, all the arithmetic operations/etc. vanish
<kof673> s/vanish/unresolved references for all those libgcc functions/
<bslsk05> <kof673*> musl i got away with --disable-shared too, but when you go to build a binary, all the arithmetic operations/etc. unresolved references for all those libgcc functions
