having xfce at portdb from r0ni is cool and all, but it would be much more convenient if the httpup file is shipped with the ISO, just like contrib
<ppetrov^>
like, having a semi-official DE with CRUX
<SiFuh>
contrib repos that you can copy off of the ISO?
<SiFuh>
Might be a cool idea actually
<farkuhar>
beerman asked us to move some contrib ports to opt, to satisfy dependencies for gtk4 and webkitgtk, under the assumption that not everyone will activate the contrib repo. If the latter assumption is valid, then it might be premature to include on the ISO the syncfile for yet another semi-official repo.
<farkuhar>
beerman's request reminds me of the Flyspray task started by alexmat, who wanted xorg-pixman moved to opt because he kept the xorg repo deactivated on his headless host.
<ppetrov^>
well, we already have a contrib kernel config...
<ppetrov^>
i got the habit to copy it to /mnt/usr/src just before I do setup-chroot
<ppetrov^>
would be nice if it gets copied there automatically, but not a big deall
<farkuhar>
Yeah, but in CRUX the kernel is managed independently of ports. There aren't as many side-effects from shipping a kernel config with the ISO, whereas if we ship another repo syncfile, we have to explain the interdependencies among this repo and the other (official and semi-official) repos.
<ppetrov^>
true, and i also think it's not feasible, timewise
<farkuhar>
At least when it was just one semi-official repo (contrib), users were free to activate it or not, without having to worry about other repo dependencies. But if anything in the xfce repo depends on a contrib port, then activating xfce requires also activating contrib, possibly accounting for dups by listing the active repos in an appropriate order in /etc/prt-get.conf
<farkuhar>
Meanwhile, those of us who create a MUSL overlay to mask the official ports might see for some ports a different dependency tree than the one reported on official CRUX, owing to the choices that maintainers made in how to build the duplicate ports. For example, the rust port in my muslcrux38 overlay has a hard dependency on clang (instead of compiler-rt which you see in opt/rust).
<SiFuh>
ppetrov^: farkuhar is spamming us with his version of the Epic of Manas ;-)
<ppetrov^>
farkuhar, i don't think crux-xfce has duplicates from contrib, but i did not check. Anyway, your points are valid and it's not too much of a trouble to get r0ni's httpup file
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: Glad the lyrics were underneath. Can barely hear the clown. Also, he barely touched on anything. It was much much larger than this.
<SiFuh>
Well the US snatched a Mr Mao, and sent abroad. He went to colledge studied hard and he studied well. Then sent him back with his bags, a knowledge that was new. So he could turn that wild land into a communist hell.
<SiFuh>
Hahahahaha
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: Have you been to China? It is awesome. So much nature, so wide and open. If you leave the cities, you won't find many people.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: nope, I haven't been to China.
<farkuhar>
ppetrov^: Can you try building lynx after applying this patch? https://dpaste.org/fUuNK
<ppetrov^>
later today, thanks
<SiFuh>
How ominous
<ppetrov^>
A sinister prognostication
<SiFuh>
Indubitably
<ppetrov^>
I say...
<farkuhar>
Too many "o"s, otherwise it would be an anagram for Nomius (who can sometimes be found in #crux)
<SiFuh>
Hahaha ppetrov^ there was an Israeli guy use to work night shift at the 7/11 Petrol Station opposite the night club. I hated it when I'd have to stop over for a customer to buy something to eat. His name was 'Anal' (Pronounced Ah Narl)
<ppetrov^>
farkuhar, and nothing happened, isee
<farkuhar>
ppetrov^: Or if anything happened, it has since been reversed, leaving no trace in our current portdb.
<ppetrov^>
:(
<ppetrov^>
i am too old for openbox + tint, sorry
<farkuhar>
What does age have to do with the choice of window manager or desktop environment? Deteriorating eyesight that cannot be accommodated by lenses or an upgraded monitor?
<ppetrov^>
no, got lazy
<ppetrov^>
and have other stuff on my mind
<ppetrov^>
actually, i used fluxbox quite some time ago, when i was new to Slackware and very enthusiastic
<farkuhar>
Speaking of WM choices, the 3.7 -> 3.8 transition gives me the perfect opportunity to drop contrib/pekwm. We already have enough floating WMs in the repos, no need to retain a WM that has seen even less active development than MATE.
<SiFuh>
Fluxbox is the best!
<SiFuh>
I switched from E16 to Blackbox, then someone told me to check out Fluxbox and I did and loved it. Been using it ever since 2002
<SiFuh>
Hasn't been updated since 2015 and yet it still compiles well and doesn't need patching
<ppetrov^>
farkuhar, the 3.7 -> 3.8 transition is the time i should cut my ports from ppetrov at least in half
<ppetrov^>
actually i have gotten them down to 110 essential ones, because i will move my perl modules to a separate repo, not for portdb
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: This Tesla attack that the far left is doing is quite stupid since it was mostly the left that bought Teslas
<SiFuh>
Heh, just got a call and a dude came over to buy 3 bottles of Vodka from me. Says he recieved a call asking for my vodka for a dinner party. I didn't ask what kind of party but he did mention it is an important event.
