<stipa> I have shut off Armbian machine
<stipa> I have transferred everything to intel laptop manjaro machine
<stipa> i could try DE on my board now...
rpardini has joined #armbian
<stipa> maybe one day it'll be stable, who knows
<stipa> i cant wait 20 years for that to happen
<stipa> so sad
<stipa> i have learned a lot in the process
<stipa> I've learned to respect old stable junk
<stipa> but. it has been only a day, i hope the new machine won't crash

<buZz> would rather have seen them do similar for NDS , so maybe DSLinux can get a future
<IgorPec> stipa: get debian / ubuntu / mint if you want stability
<rpardini> Whazzup. should I be here? (Libera?) Saw a Discord thing somewhere
<IgorPec> irc rocks :)
<stipa> IgorPec: tried those before, arch stuff seems the best
<stipa> looks ok so far
<IgorPec> until crash
<IgorPec> arch stuff is too fragile
<stipa> yeah, there hasn't been one whole day
<IgorPec> is no crash in one year vs ...
<stipa> ah, yeah, it's not meant to work 367 days without reboot
<stipa> it also has gui but the laptop lid is closed
<IgorPec> idk, i wouldn't waste my time with majnaro
<stipa> i'm shelling into it and if it's really bad i just open the lid
<IgorPec> i use laptop ;)
<IgorPec> got arm boards for hackiog
<stipa> right
<stipa> i guess i'll put armbain DE tomorrow on it
<stipa> USB stuff isn't reliable yet
<IgorPec> what kind of laptop, x86 you have?
<stipa> CPU: Dual Core Intel Core i3 M 350 (-MT MCP-) speed/min/max: 1338/933/2266 MHz Kernel: 5.12.9-1-MANJARO x86_64 Up: 5h 17m
<stipa> Mem: 837.2/7747.8 MiB (10.8%) Storage: 1.06 TiB (1.6% used) Procs: 208 Shell: Bash inxi: 3.3.04
<stipa> runs 2.4 & 5.8 GHz APs connected with ethernet to 4g modem
<stipa> runs this weechat instance too
<stipa> had some trouble with pihole, it 's dhcp doesn't work on manjaro
<stipa> dhcp server* , got to put dnsmasq
<stipa> i put dnsmasq on it for dhcp & dns server
<stipa> i have to mount external disk to it and install samba
<IgorPec> manjaro is just build and ship distro
<stipa> idk what it is but it's repository just rox
<IgorPec> all have the same
<IgorPec> just in different colours ;)
<stipa> not really, there's a lot of illegal stuff in AUR
<stipa> patched and ready to install
<IgorPec> like what? games?
<stipa> like hostapd-noscan
<IgorPec> that is in armbian by default since 2013
<stipa> nope
<IgorPec> yes
<IgorPec> i have implement it
<stipa> i didn't have luck with it even if there is some
<stipa> but in repository there is no hostpad with noscan package
<IgorPec> wireless support in armbian is better even than kali
<stipa> and regular one named "hostapd" has no noscan patch
<IgorPec> it should have unless patch broke down in recent versions. let me check
<stipa> it broke
<IgorPec> they took a lot from armbian ;)
<IgorPec> most of our wireless drivers are monitor ready
<stipa> so, the patch is in the 'hostapd' package ?
<stipa> around that time i gave up on it i guess
<stipa> 13 months ago
<IgorPec> its inside for at least 5 years
<stipa> but hostapd that i installed from armbian repository didn't have noscan patch
<stipa> noscan=1 did nothing or gave an error
<IgorPec> but of course some versions could not be built that way due to patch not aligning
<IgorPec> can't saay
<stipa> right
<stipa> they put in legal stuff in in every version
<IgorPec> i haven't test this functionality for some time
<stipa> and it has to be patched
<IgorPec> i'll check next time when building those packages. they are not changing much anyway
<stipa> it worked in version 2.5 or something
<stipa> whn you did that patch, but version after it patch didnt work anymore
<stipa> versions after*
<stipa> they added some code in every version that comply with international laws
<IgorPec> we have all those old versions in the repo
<IgorPec> yeah, i know. but things can be hacked if there is a will
<stipa> yeah, i patched it with patch from arch aur and compiled it on armbian machine
<stipa> noscan is a fancy feature since it doubles the speed of ht40 capable radios
<Armbian-Discord> <rneese> ?
<stipa> some wifi N devices can go double speed as AP with noscan=1 in hostapd config file
<stipa> they use more channels in that case which is forbidden by law
<stipa> more channels concurrently
<stipa> they enter HT40 mode in tha case
<stipa> without noscan patch applied to hostapd wifi n card won't go into ht40 mode complaining there are other APs around working at same channels
<stipa> by applying noscan patch to hostapd hostapd will ignore that error
<stipa> and wifi n card with ht40 capability will go full speed
<stipa> in AP mode
<stipa> wifi chip*
<stipa> so, if you run ap on a wifi n chip at the speeds of 54Mbs there is a chance it could work on 100Mbs(Practical) with noscan patch
<stipa> if chip has two antennas it could go 200Mbs in wifi N mode with HT40 in AP mode
<stipa> 200Mbs(Practical)
<stipa> it's usually theoretically represented with one antenna as 150Mbs and with two antennas as 300Mbs
<stipa> without noscan patch it would be for one natenna around 50Mbs and with two 100Mbs practical
<stipa> so, double speed
<stipa> station(clients) don't really care
<stipa> they'll connect in HT40 if there is one, no need for hackery
<IgorPec> i know. that is the reason i have add this feature 5y ago :)
<IgorPec> i live in urban area, where this is must have
<Armbian-Discord> <RicardoP> Nice. IRC < Discord
<stipa> IgorPec: i told it to rneese
<IgorPec> aha
<stipa> he spitted "?" mark
<stipa> i guess he asked what's it all about
<stipa> RicardoP there's a sloution for everything :D
