<[TheBug]>
you may wish to run armbian-config and check some of the other kernels
<[TheBug]>
there may be a newer one already in dev channel you can try
<[TheBug]>
if not y ou can easily switch your kernel around as well from there
<[TheBug]>
Seems there is a kernel regression in all kernels past 5.10.16 for RockPro64 for USB that in some cases causes the whol USB stack to puke.

<stipa>
buZz: ?
<buZz>
?
<lanefu>
zz
<stipa>
│21:37:26 buZz | do you guys have usbcondoms in your standard carry-along hw collection?
<buZz>
yeah
<buZz>
a male+female USB plug that only has +5 and GND connected, not data
<stipa>
usually i disconnect power not data
<stipa>
to make something powered
<buZz>
yeah thats the second type, still need to make it
<buZz>
data + GND pin then? or just data
<stipa>
you have one GND one +V
<stipa>
and two data in the middle on USB2
<buZz>
yes, i mean, are -you- connecting only D+ and D- ?
<buZz>
or D+ , D- and GND
<stipa>
for powered?
<buZz>
for 14:59:20 < stipa> usually i disconnect power not data
<stipa>
i leave ground
<buZz>
ok
<buZz>
tnx
<stipa>
it's needed
<stipa>
it wont work without it
<buZz>
i'm not really sure, because its a differential pair
<buZz>
but i guess it makes sense
<stipa>
i honestly don't know why the ground has to be left
<nekomancer[m]>
because ground is a shield?
<stipa>
dunno, it just doesn't wont to work without it
<stipa>
isolating power pins on USB 2 and connecting other power source to it won't work
<stipa>
the ground has to be left
<stipa>
so just disconnecting +5V and connecting your own of the other power source will work
<buZz>
i'm curious if it might depend on device, if some do operate with only D+ and D- , and not GND
<buZz>
i'll try some day
<stipa>
and ground of the power source goes to the computer ground
<lanefu>
interesting never used one
<buZz>
lanefu: its common for people that often use USB chargers they dont trust ;)
<buZz>
like those in airports etc
<buZz>
or well
<buZz>
at least the technically concious ones
<lanefu>
yeah it's a smart thing to consider
<lanefu>
i should pick up somethig like that
<lanefu>
i just don't travel for work likei used to
<lanefu>
like since that stuff has been a big issue
<lanefu>
lol i guess my in-line usb-power monitor would be one
<lanefu>
i'll have ot make sure no data pins i guess
<stipa>
cool idea yeah, and you never know
<buZz>
i come to hackerspaces often, i mistrust a lot of 'available ports'
<buZz>
lol
<stipa>
and open wifis :D
<lanefu>
ha yeah.. wireguard makes life so easy in that regard at least
<stipa>
in city of Zagreb there's wifi in buses
<stipa>
stucking sbc in backpack and faking it could sniff alot of stuff
<stipa>
i haven't still heard someone is doing it
<stipa>
there are probably dumb enough people to do bank stuff over it
<stipa>
so trusting public chargers and open wifis, no tanks

why there is no new opi zero 2 release?
<e3ef13f4ff44>
last was on 23 may
<buZz>
not so old
<buZz>
unless you ment 2020?
<e3ef13f4ff44>

nekomancer[m]: buZz idk some years ago it was veryy easy to sniff passwords on a bridge
<buZz>
yeah, not much changed since then
<lanefu>
easy to sniff passwords inside TLS on a bridge?
<stipa>
dont know what encryption it was, but for example sniffing facebook password was like piece of cake
<lanefu>
...when
<lanefu>
8 years ago?
<stipa>
yeah
<lanefu>
lol.. yeah
<stipa>
something like that
<stipa>
in plain text
<stipa>
you get user and pass
<lanefu>
*got
<stipa>
no cracking no nothing
<stipa>
don't know what's today
<stipa>
don't follow it

the keyword there is **was**
<nekomancer[m]>
> dont know what encryption it was, but for example sniffing facebook password was like piece of cake
<buZz>
lanefu: its easier to find dumb users than it is to break tls :P
<nekomancer[m]>
today https everywhere. and no pop3.
<buZz>
maybe they are using TLS 1.0? :)
<nekomancer[m]>
tls 1.0 code disabled in common browsers for a years.
<buZz>
maybe they are using a 2 yo apple device which stopped getting updates
