<donihalim>
buZz: delivery fee and tax would be expensive...
<buZz>
donihalim: imho, suck it up, i dont know anyone making legit new cells
<buZz>
anyone else*
<buZz>
;)
<donihalim>
arno11: donihalim: 10h idle on n900 (with Leste) means only 500mAh in battery :( < right, this is the only reason im not able to daily drive this phone
<buZz>
see :) its for great benefit!
<Daanct12>
buZz: china still does
<buZz>
Daanct12: i havent seen evidence :D
<buZz>
thusfar all 'new' nokia n900 cells i got in china , were just a sticker over a old battery , 'refurbished'
<donihalim>
Daanct12: which brand?
<Daanct12>
donihalim: no name
<Daanct12>
it says nokia but of course, do you think nokia still makes new cells
<buZz>
Daanct12: usually easiest to spot by the fact that they have a sticker below the sticker ;)
<donihalim>
buZz: still over the budget im willing to spent :D
<buZz>
donihalim: fine by me ;)
<Daanct12>
buZz: well they expand! so technically they're new
<buZz>
no
<Daanct12>
i don't think i've seen a original nokia battery that expands
<buZz>
then its not a lipo
<buZz>
either way , polarcell you buy today will be a cell produced in 2024 or 2025
<buZz>
i germany
<buZz>
in*
<buZz>
which you can verify with the datecodes on the cel
<buZz>
cell*
<Daanct12>
i'm surprised they still manufacture these
<buZz>
they have for a LONG time
<Daanct12>
hmm
<Daanct12>
i guess there's other stuffs that uses the form factor
<Daanct12>
just like people putting bl-5c everywhere
<buZz>
they list several on their website yeah
<Daanct12>
i highly doubt you can find a battery for a nokia 9000 communicator or something ancient
<Daanct12>
brand new
<buZz>
yet, nokia 6110 they do have :)
<buZz>
but that 486 phone likely had weird battery
<arno11>
donihalim: worth a try @china. 800-1000mAh should be enough in 2G for daily drive

<arno11>
or try to find a lumia 520 or similar. i got one in ireland 10y ago, battery still delivers 1000mA (acceptable for n900)
<donihalim>
Umm so after digging some more info, I could get polarcell battery for ~€20 using a third party, shipping would take around 2week
<donihalim>
s/using/via
<arno11>
oh nice
<arno11>
with polarcell and 2G you can expect around 30h idle btw

morn
<inky>
i dont understand how these batteries, especially specific like for d4 are still produced. who buys them? even if there is 100 d4 users in the world, that should be not enough.
<inky>
morning (:
<Wizzup>
polarcell also makes after market batties, but who knows about the chinese ones
<Wizzup>
I would suggest polarcell n900 batteries if you can get them
<Wizzup>
ah, I see this was mentioned

What do you all think? €20 for a battery, is it worth it?
<donihalim>
Btw, i got the phone itself for $20
<inky>
yeah, in my state i can't afford battery of that price.
<inky>
i got bionic for that price because it was cheap, usually those are expensive, no idea why.
<inky>
but spending the same amount for a battery: no.
<inky>
i bought an extended battery (used) for bionic for $5 but i didn't know it requires another back cover.
<inky>
so i can't use it. :/ hope to find a cheap backcover one day.
<inky>
there is one from not motorola, again costs about twenty.

donihalim: $20 phone + $20 battery sounds like a good deal to me
<arno11>
i mean, globally $40 for a full working n900 is quite cheap in 2025

<donihalim>
I'll think about it, atleast now i know how to get the battery. Thanks all
<inky>
if you have it installed on your server it might help a lot.
<arno11>
sicelo: ok (but i misunderstood the 20 sec thing: i thought it was after shutdown...)
<arno11>
donihalim: i can have a look a bit later

arno11: no, before shutdown, afaict. the idea is - the fuel gauge takes about 20 seconds to confirm that calibration has succeeded after the battery low signal was fired
<sicelo>
arno11: in fact a lot in that battery section needs updating. e.g. now the LED burns green when the battery is really really full, so no need anymore to keep charger onwards
<sicelo>
modified :-)
pere has joined #maemo-leste
<arno11>
sicelo: yeah ok @20sec
<dsc_>
hmm, re browsh
<arno11>
ok @battery
<dsc_>
maybe something with xpra could be cool
<dsc_>
its remote desktop but with h264
<dsc_>
it can stream X windows
<dsc_>
so could render firefox headless with xvfb
<dsc_>
then xpra it onto your leste device
<sicelo>
arno11: @20s, so the plan is to cause N900 to correctly wait for the calibration-completed signal before actually shutting down. needs some work upower side and mce/status-area-battery, but when time allows :-)
<arno11>
sure
<sicelo>
we currently have a set voltage, which is wrong way, since voltage fluctuates
<arno11>
yeah and it can fluctuate for lot of reasons
<arno11>
really not good for accuracy

sicelo: would it be possible that when you or one of you maintain maemo-leste for a device that you record this session and upload it to YouTube uncut, so to be of least effort and so that others can learn from it?
<Smatkovi>
i for example have limited though nonzero knowledge, but believe that this could help me to maybe be able to maintain a port for a device that's currently unmaintained
