<nekomancer[m]>
bad joke: I try to replace by warranty failed 14TB HGST HDD. "we confirm replace. same item not accessible, other same size current price is 710€, then please pay 295€ for replacement or choose something other".
<nekomancer[m]>
how warranty works in eastern europe
<nekomancer[m]>
😣
<haritz>
I was wondering, if the boot sequence as spelt out in /boot/boot.ini fails, because no matching images or initrd files could be found, how does uboot know where to pick up a kernel image
<haritz>
that seems to be the case

<RichNeese> so do any of you install custom desktops or just use xfce ?

<stipa>
RichNeese i don't have hdmi audio on H6 and xfce Linux orangepilite2 5.13.9-sunxi64 #trunk.114 SMP Sun Aug 8 22:53:21 UTC 2021 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux
<stipa>
the screen before entering DE, the one where you enter a password has some glitches with password field
<stipa>
you can type in but it's glitchy, it accepts the password
<stipa>
everything else seems fine
<stipa>
fine as state of driver goes
<stipa>
drivers*
<stipa>
but tbh interest in H6 is very low
<stipa>
everyone has some excuse
<stipa>
and devs are distancing from it
<stipa>
hopes of it working as it should are very low
hipboi has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds]
<stipa>
i propose removing H6 boards from "supported"
<stipa>
to
<IgorPec>
it will remain as is
<IgorPec>
devs are unpaid, so any discussion is pointless
<stipa>
yeah
<IgorPec>
this is linux and situation alsewhere (debian, ubuntu, manjaro, arch, ... ) is just much worse, while they only knows "supported"
<IgorPec>
most of debian supported builds is just an automated never tested CI stream
<stipa>
yeah, nothing changed in 2 years
<stipa>
only thing that happened with H6 is regression
<stipa>
and nothing after it
<IgorPec>
well, it is always this way, ups and down.
<IgorPec>
linux is made from many people and some contributions breaks previous work and vice versa
<IgorPec>
this is happening all the time
<IgorPec>
stop acting like a customer and things will be fine ;)
hipboi has joined #armbian
<stipa>
IgorPec: i'll try
<stipa>
it's just the things i have no control of never ended fine
<stipa>
not fine for me ofcourse
<stipa>
maybe for someone else did
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Stipa i love my h6 boards. I use pineh64 as my headless workstation and one as a wireguard vpn gateway
<IgorPec>
we are few millions short to be able to provide you what you imagine. just that ;)
<IgorPec>
and yes, maintaining is a problem. for far less complicated things
<IgorPec>
most of people that wants to help armbian would test, play, develop ... nobody asks "can i help maintaning"
<IgorPec>
a few ofc does that
<IgorPec>
otheewise you would need to run junk from vendor
<stipa>
it's still junk
<stipa>
idk, damn
<stipa>
where should i even need to start to try to do it myself?
<stipa>
for example, what i don't need to know ?
<stipa>
or is it that i need to know fucking everything
<stipa>
to fix a driver
<stipa>
i'll do some reading, on the link above is some useful info of what some i already recognize

<stipa>
The assumption here is that if the driver compiles with the kernel, then it works. That is not always the case...
<stipa>
lol
<stipa>
here it goes
<stipa>
debug that
<stipa>
already i have a feeling that some drivers don't get in the mainline and that requires maintenance that is lacking in many cases
<stipa>
let me guess, i would have to pay to Linus Trovalds if i don't want to compile driver for every kernel because he doesn't want to put it in kernel for free?
<stipa>
tbh i wouldn't be surprised
chewitt has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]

that would have been done with the first vendor kernel
