<midfavila> literally who gives a shit
<niceguy5000[m]> You hate AI in general?
<midfavila> when did i say that?
<shokara> ai is da footur!
<midfavila> no, what i hate is people who hype things up
<midfavila> "hypebeasts"
* midfavila shudders violently
<midfavila> it's the same reason i want to fucking throttle people in my generation who adopt early '00s scenecore or emo/goth aesthetic without adopting or advancing or even understanding the culture
<midfavila> it's hollow, empty, and shallow in all regards
<niceguy5000[m]> shokara: soon we will be living in our beds without wheels. /s.
<niceguy5000[m]> s/without/with/
<shokara> but beds don't have wheels...
<shokara> oh
<shokara> actually I think there already are metal bed frames that have wheels
<niceguy5000[m]> i mean this.
<shokara> haven't watched the video yet, but according to the description, isn't this like the hover beds in wall-e?

<niceguy5000[m]> <midfavila> "it's the same reason i want to..." <- You like emo/goth stuff?
<midfavila> i'm ambivalent towards it
<midfavila> i just hate grifters
<midfavila> with a violent fury
<midfavila> and it feels like as time goes on more and more people seem to become grifters of some form or another
<midfavila> modern society feels synthetic
<midfavila> it's all about "appearance" and "vibes" and "aesthetic"
<niceguy5000[m]> what do you mean? you hate popular stuff?
<midfavila> no, i hate people who adopt only the surface-level elements of a culture in order to appeal to other people or to attempt to align themselves with a particular culture
<midfavila> inauthenticity is the problem
<niceguy5000[m]> You like bard ai?
* midfavila sighs
<niceguy5000[m]> You think ai is going to replace us? like the average tech joe?

<Ellowee[m]> <niceguy5000[m]> "You think ai is going to replace..." <- Eventually, when the computers become parametric enough to simulate all the bottom dweller's jobs, then upwards.
<Ellowee[m]> What will happen then is an ai to excel in teaching and making the best in people, being very optimistic here

<midfavila> i mean, i don't entirely disagree that at some point we're literally just going to live in some hybrid of the matrix and psycho-pass
<midfavila> i.e AIs running all critical portions of the governments of the world, evaluating and assigning people to tasks based on what they're most predisposed to, etc
<midfavila> and i also don't doubt that most menial "information work" is going to be automated
<midfavila> the problem is that the (essentially) free money that that generates isn't going to be equally shared without the government stepping in
<midfavila> and so you're going to have a growing population unable to acquire enough wealth to sustain itself because the divide between the poor and the rich will continue to grow
<midfavila> not because the poor are "bottom dwellers" universally, but because the only jobs that will exist will be the professions
<midfavila> idek if most trades will end up surviving e.g carpentry, cobbling/shoemaking, seamstry
<midfavila> anyway i'm off to bed
<niceguy5000[m]> I really think the only right life is farming your own food and working for yourself like in the old days. What would happen if all the robots do all the work? What will people do? Do nothing all day? Fix robots? make better robots? What's the point? Just chat with people about stuff all day?

<midfavila> yes
<sad_plan> hm, ok. I couldnt get any of the keys to work, except ctrl + 1, which didnt even do what it was supposed to.
rohan has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<sad_plan> instead of switching to tab # 1, it switched between the tabs
<midfavila> check your keymap
rohan has joined #kisslinux
<midfavila> tinyx doesn't always map things properly
<midfavila> especially modifiers
<sad_plan> it was the default one. which is control + foo
<sad_plan> ill doublecheck
<midfavila> no, your keymap for x
<midfavila> not for tabbed
<sad_plan> like what? I only have for sxhkd. and st, but theres not many.
<sad_plan> neither have changed much since last time I used tabbed
<midfavila> no, no. the keymap for the x11 server itself
rohan has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<midfavila> the way that tinyx interprets keys by default is different from x.org
<midfavila> you need to use... shit, one second
<midfavila> setxkbmap
<sad_plan> yeah, I figured you meant those when I thought about it
<midfavila> your modifiers probably either aren't being detected by tinyx or they aren't mapped correctly
rohan has joined #kisslinux
<midfavila> i had trouble with tinyx on my laptop not detecting alt and i had to map it to meta or w/e to get it to work
<sad_plan> xev detects its Control_L, which is correct. shouldnt that be fine?
<midfavila> hmmm
<midfavila> should be, yeah
<midfavila> if it's not the X keymap then i'm not sure what else it could be
<sad_plan> I mean, everythin else works. except surfs modal patch outright refuse to work for me anymore. I remeber using it before, but I cant for the life of me get it to work anymore. switched to vimb instead, which was a godsend compared
<sad_plan> I like the vim keybindings for my browser
<sad_plan> I used both on xorg. but I dont recall wether both surf modal patch, and tabbed worked on tinyx earlier though.
* midfavila shrugs
<sad_plan> oh well
<midfavila> mfw emacs bindings work
<midfavila> :^)
<sad_plan> thats good though
<midfavila> you know what's even better?
<midfavila> my desk and chair are coming today!!!
<midfavila> i'll finally have a place to study again
<midfavila> be able to work on fixing my mathlet status
<midfavila> phoebos is lucky that he's on the other side of the planet, otherwise his powers would be mine
<sad_plan> great :D
<sad_plan> I wanna get a new desk too. mines even smaller than my screen. or almost. I dont remember
<sad_plan> its really tiny
<midfavila> i have a pretty huge standing desk for my PC, but...
<midfavila> my monitors and keyboard + trackball take up basically all available space
<midfavila> there's no room for me to put a book to reference or paper to write on or anything
<midfavila> new desk will have enough space for a small PC, books, pens, paper, etc
<midfavila> gonna save up for a librebooted desktop

<sad_plan> its nice to have some extra space. being cramped as hell gets old real quick
<sad_plan> what kind of desktop though?
<sad_plan> those viking or w/e they were called running risc?
<sad_plan> no, talos
<sad_plan> was the one I thought of
<midfavila> nah, way too pricey
<midfavila> just a crappy little intel box from like 15 years ago
<sad_plan> yeah, I thought as much. theyre hella expensive
<sad_plan> cool
<midfavila> enough to run KISS with TinyX and connect to SDF and run my usual software
<midfavila> i wanna save up for a new phone too, my current one is a) proprieshit and b) on its last legs
<sad_plan> you got one in mind that youre eying?
<midfavila> mudita pure
<midfavila> need muh gepeel OS
<sad_plan> yeah, ive heard about that one. not overly conviced on that one though. has had alot of problems in the past atleast. Im not sure if theyre fixed yet
<midfavila> it also is the closest i've found to my ideal device in a modern phone
<midfavila> and yeah i'm still not super sold on it

<sad_plan> jose briones has some vidoes on it. he's a dumbphone enthusiaist. or w/e one would call it
<sad_plan> I belive he's one of the mods on r/dumbphones or something
<midfavila> already watching one of his vids
<midfavila> :p
<sad_plan> ah ok :p
<midfavila> i think the mode switch and other memey stuff is kind of dumb but it's not crazy excessive
<midfavila> i will say that i hate that it's so hard to find a non-bluetooth-enabled device
<sad_plan> it is. it could be just like on literally every other phone. flight mode and silent mode
<sad_plan> bluetooth is the new shit you know
<midfavila> i don't want bluetooth, i don't want wLAN, I don't want gmail or snapchat or any of this other bullshit
<midfavila> i want a 3.5mm jack, micro USB or USC-C, an e-ink display, a physical keypad of some sort, and an easy to work on form factor
<sad_plan> rather barebone then
<midfavila> well yeah i want a phone
<sad_plan> I also want a 3.5 jack. my current phone has it, but reaching eol this year :(
<midfavila> phone with an incidental music player i guess
<sad_plan> any new thoughts on the console2 or w/e it was called? the rpi phone
<midfavila> a bad joke
<midfavila> as with almost every device i maintain that the raspberry pi is good for prototyping almost exclusively
<sad_plan> I thought you were serious about that one. I kinda liked it
rohan has quit [Ping timeout: 248 seconds]
<midfavila> are you talking about the uconsole?
<midfavila> i don't consider it a phone
<sad_plan> yes
<sad_plan> ah ok
<midfavila> i consider it more of a pda
rohan has joined #kisslinux
<sad_plan> sure. may fit that description better
<midfavila> if/when i get one it won't be with the cellular module
<sad_plan> other people would hate not having that. I get that some people do it for privacy, because they dont trust the celluar providers
<midfavila> meh.

<midfavila> lmao this fucking article
<midfavila> how are people this non-functional without a smartphone
<midfavila> i especially love the argument mid-article that you need a dozen different items to compensate for a smartphone and these things are somehow more expensive. watch is maybe 10$ for a decent one, pedometer is strictly unnecessary, alarm clock is maybe 3-5$, camera is optional but also not very expensive for a small one, data storage is ubiquitous already, anyone who does actual work *already has* a laptop, tablets aren't necessary, a mu
<midfavila> sic player is *also* unnecessary and *also* cheap, and so on and so on. gosh
<midfavila> like imagine *needing* a GPS. just learn to use a fucking map my dude-
<midfavila> absolutely wild
<midfavila> i just... man. i legitimately cannot believe that this is a common thing for people.
