<tleydxdy[m]> lol, the page visibly lags on my computer
mahmutov has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<cem> yeah, I'm dumb, but I didn't even understand what that exactly is
<noocsharp> all you really need to know is that it will always be free, always be an open ecosystem, will be open source when it launches and no storage limits
<cem> it talks about there being no storage limits, and it tells everything is offline
<noocsharp> doesn't matter too much what it is

<cem> yeah that's true
<Guest31> Β it's a notion clone
<cem> Ahh now it makes so much sense
<cem> I should have understood from how slow that page was
<Guest31> local notion but they have p2p
<Guest31> "planning" to open source it once they progress to beta
<cem> my university uses notion for everything and I hate it with a burning passion
<cem> I would push for "local notion but the have p2p and foss" just to get rid of notion
<Guest31> it's actually promising
<tleydxdy[m]> as long as the web devs that did it are not the devs that made the actual software
<tleydxdy[m]> which is unlikely
<tleydxdy[m]> s/as long as the web devs that did it are not the devs that made the actual software/as long as the web devs that did the webpage are not the devs that made the actual software/
<Guest31> notion is a webapp, which sucks but anytype isn't much better. they have native mobile apps but on desktop it's electron
<cem> If the landing page is the same as the software itself, it's 100 times faster than notion
<tleydxdy[m]> lol, I've never touched notion.
<tleydxdy[m]> I know that people are talking about it
<cem> and the notion mobile app can go suck a dick, it's unironically slowest pile of garbage I had to use, I deleted after an hour
<tleydxdy[m]> can't be worse than emacs
<Guest31> anytype's webpage has always been pretty bad but at least it didn't look like a youtuber's online merch store back then: https://web.archive.org/web/20210321163742/https://anytype.io/
<tleydxdy[m]> if the page looked like this I would be sold https://web.archive.org/web/20190216023510/http://anytype.io/
<tleydxdy[m]> they can charge me 10 bucks a month
<cem> lol
<cem> i mean, the design itself doesn't bother me, i kind of like the current one
<Guest31> yeah it's unnecessarily heavyweight
<Guest31> which is reflective of the software
<tleydxdy[m]> it is necessary, at least now I'm not down 10 bucks a month
<Guest31> to be fair you need to sign up for the alpha and wait for an invitation to test it. i hear they'll be charging for extra hosting if you need one once released.
<tleydxdy[m]> that's fair
<tleydxdy[m]> so far other than the lag it seems fine
<Guest31> .appimage isn't so fine though. Electron is for compatibility but I really wouldn't want to run it. I'm guessing they are trying to launch the product as quickly as possible and get the attention of investors and potential customers
<tleydxdy[m]> appimage is fine for obsolete software or test packages imo
<maximum_yellow> woo, migrated to JFS for root
<maximum_yellow> jfsutils took some finagling, but it works. I think i'll contribute that to community
