<farkuhar>
I followed lavaball's example and took two naps yesterday. But then I still enjoyed 8+ uninterrupted hours of nighttime sleep. Maybe I had been accumulating a sleep deficit without even realizing it.
<zorz>
kalimera everybody
<zorz>
farkuhar: 8+.... dont say that to SiFuh_ :) SiFuh_ has no good relationship with sleep
<zorz>
I slept only 2 hours... came down to the city, was expecting a TV delivery
<zorz>
I got organized for winter.
<ppetrov^>
farkuhar, i sleep less than 6h per day and i feel like shit
<zorz>
today for lunch sardines.
<zorz>
greek sardines the small ones:)
<lavaball>
two? i only take one.
<lavaball>
and i don't have nightmares. if there is anything going in my reams i solve it there and then.
<lavaball>
i do the naruto am i asleep move too sometimes.
<remiliascarlet>
zorz: Raw sardines are amazing, especially if they still have all their organs in, head still on, and tail still on.
<SiFuh>
And fluke and parasitic worms
<remiliascarlet>
No proof of that.
<SiFuh>
Bullshit
<remiliascarlet>
Yeah, flukes and parasitic worms in raw meat is indeed bullshit.
<SiFuh>
You think the parasitic worms were just invented by someone's imagination?
<remiliascarlet>
Given the raw meat comes from a healthy animal.
<SiFuh>
Did you take drugs or something?
<remiliascarlet>
"You think the parasitic worms were just invented by someone's imagination?" In itself, no. But the way it gets generalized does make it seem like made up.
<SiFuh>
You do understand the meaning of the word parasitic?
<remiliascarlet>
Yes.
<remiliascarlet>
"Did you take drugs or something?" Nice pre-programmed counter argument though.
<SiFuh>
In one episode of Alone. They shot a porcupine with an arrow and when they cut it open to cook. It was full of worms.
<SiFuh>
The muscles and liver were full of sacks containing coils of worms
<remiliascarlet>
Yeah, because Hollywood movies totally reflect reality...
<SiFuh>
Alone is not Holywood or a movie
<SiFuh>
It is a survival show.
<SiFuh>
And the person has to do their own recording and carry their own camera equipment because they are literally 'alone'
<SiFuh>
Parasitic round worms are frequently found in the stomach and flesh of fish. These worms can grow up to 4 cm long and can vary in colour from cream to brown. They are commonly known as Cod Worms but can also be found in other white fish such as Haddock. They are from the species Phocanema.
<remiliascarlet>
But then again, if the animal was sick, then of course it'll have worms and parasites in them.
<remiliascarlet>
If they were healthy, it doesn't.
<SiFuh>
All animals and humans have parasitic worms throughout the course of their life regardless of health status.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: you're okay with eating any reptile except for snakes? What's so bad about snake meat that cannot be fixed by cooking it properly?
<SiFuh>
You got that wrong.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: I am okay with eating any reptile except for lizards because I like lizards.
<SiFuh>
I have not eaten a snake before. But if I catch a poisonous snake, I will eat it for sure. But as for a python, I will not.
<farkuhar>
Oh, then what's so bad about python meat in particular?
<SiFuh>
Nothing. I just thing pythons are nice snakes to have around
<SiFuh>
Well, unless they are over 6 metres long and eating the villagers
<farkuhar>
On the other hand, the ecosystem around python the programming language is a mess for packagers.
<SiFuh>
Better call serpente in then
<farkuhar>
Or zorz, when he returns from the city and finishes his fork of pipman.
<SiFuh>
Heh, it was a joke because serpente = serpent in English
<farkuhar>
I'm still curious what changed after python 3.10 to make the find_library patch necessary on musl systems. The python 3.10 series builds just fine on crux-musl without any such patch.
<SiFuh>
No idea, I am not working on CRUX-MUSL until 3.8 is released
<farkuhar>
The latest nodejs update is taking longer than I expected. Maybe the CPU and RAM switched to power-save mode, after being pushed to their limits by an 11-hour build job for gcc 14.
<ukky>
nodejs is a huge project. If system starts swapping while builing it, then it may take forever to build it, unless OOM happens and system just freezes.
<farkuhar>
nodejs is a huge project, but it finally finished (and didn't take nearly as long as the gcc 14 build). And it looks like the package is actually smaller than the previous version: https://dpaste.org/8RDF8

<farkuhar>
And the main reason I built gcc 14 was to test stenur's claim about vorbis-tools needing new #includes. Now that I've confirmed it, I can update the port accordingly.
<SiFuh>
All the spyware and NSA added software was removed.
<SiFuh>
.... and put into the port. The rest was thrown out. ;-)
<farkuhar>
ukky: pkgmk did not throw any obvious errors while building nodejs. Maybe gcc 14 is just that much better at optimizing the build than gcc 12 was.
<ukky>
maybe we should compare footprint vs 22.7.0
<farkuhar>
a footprint mismatch would constitute one of the "obvious errors" pkgmk could have thrown. As I said, no such error was reported. And the footprint itself has been the same since nodejs 21.0.0
<ukky>
could it be a compression algorithm settings then?
<farkuhar>
Let's be charitable and say that the gcc 12 -> 14 update might yield benefits with respect to package size. That's a more comforting story than SiFuh's conjecture about spyware and the NSA.
<ukky>
Maybe gcc-14 forces LTO by default?
<farkuhar>
stenur didn't explicitly cite gcc 14 as the reason for the failed vorbis-tools build on his system, that was merely my conclusion after reading his patch. But he also applies another patch "antje.diff" which I haven't successfully tracked down.
zorz has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
<farkuhar>
heh, the noise in #crux-devel reminded me of SiFuh's issue with people who confuse license and licence. It looks like the python3-rpds-py port isn't confused about spelling, but about where to save the license file.

<lavaball>
dogs dogs dogs dogs dogs they're eating the dogs!
<SiFuh>
Dog meat is good
<SiFuh>
But you wouldn't know herbiball.
<lavaball>
i only eat very hot stones.
<SiFuh>
Hot gall stones?
<lavaball>
i have a few of those. luckily big enough.
<SiFuh>
Hot kidney stones?
<lavaball>
way too healthy for that.
<SiFuh>
Heh, remiliascarlet seems to beleive that parasites don't infect healthy animals or humans. And somehow all the meat she eats came from healthy animals.
<SiFuh>
I am pretty sure a dead sardine is not healthy anymore :-)
<lavaball>
she cookes her shit, riight?
<lavaball>
the parasites are no joking matter.
<lavaball>
not even the tape worms.
<SiFuh>
She eats a bit of raw stuff
<lavaball>
maybe she already has toxo plasma gondii in her brain.
<lavaball>
she has cats too.
<lavaball>
...
<lavaball>
bah.
<SiFuh>
I had two tapes worms in my life. I didn't even get them from meat. I got them from not washed properly vegetables.
<lavaball>
WHA?T!
<SiFuh>
Yeah, you need to wash that stuff or animal shit can leave the tape worm packages on the plant
<SiFuh>
Had to shit in a bowl and hand it to the doctor to send to the lab.
<SiFuh>
Then came back with a giant freaking pill
<SiFuh>
Also, pinworms are parasites. You can get them from anything because the eggs travel in the wind like dust. It doesn't matter how clean or healthy, rich or poor you are. You can still get them
<lavaball>
capsicums can have them inside.
<lavaball>
mother fucker.
<lavaball>
so cut them in half and was them.
<lavaball>
...
<SiFuh>
I like Capsicum
<lavaball>
it just never ends, does it?
<SiFuh>
I had a really cool grub from one of my home grown chillis once. You would touch it and it would bend into the shape of a you and suddenly flew like half a metre across the table.
<SiFuh>
I have video somewhere.
<lavaball>
you like the old stuff. have you played dark sun shattered lands?
<SiFuh>
It's not technically a parasite. But for plants it would be.
<SiFuh>
I take Ivermectin usually monthly since 1996
<SiFuh>
Although during the fake pandemic I had to buy on the black market
<SiFuh>
No never played anything called Dark Sun Shattered Lands
<lavaball>
i somehow feel like it. it's somewhat reflective of modern times. like the main village has two guys. an old "dumb" guy who wants to built a wall, and another young business guy who wants to let everyone in ... and of course betrays the village.
<lavaball>
the game was made in 1994?
<lavaball>
maybe 1992 even.
<lavaball>
it's really old.
<lavaball>
actually, since we are talking old games. have you played bioforge?
<SiFuh>
Sounds like you are talking about Trump building a wall and Biden let everyone in
<SiFuh>
no I have not played Bioforge
<lavaball>
why you no play the good games?
<lavaball>
1995!

<lavaball>
okay, zorz. now that you are here, i'm gonna start the third book of dune. you ready?
<farkuhar>
What's the connection between zorz arriving, and lavaball shifting the topic from games to books? Does lavaball think zorz has no interest in gaming?
<lavaball>
there is no connection. i'm just being random.
<lavaball>
comes from being bored.
<lavaball>
i have to stretch and i don't wanna.
<lavaball>
my shoulders are as right as the vaginas i'm after.
<lavaball>
anyway, i did sysupgrade -sn. let's hope sshfs doesn't creash my box again.
<lavaball>
it's been a week.
<farkuhar>
I think I'll take the second nap of the day. It might become a regular habit, now that I saw the rejuvenating effect it had yesterday.
<lavaball>
see?
<lavaball>
i give good advice.
<lavaball>
anyway, update's done. reboot.
<lavaball>
oh, fwupdate changed ip.
<lavaball>
no. i just haven't added this one on this box yet.
<lavaball>
okay then. let's gooo!

In spoken conversation you can't hear the difference between license and licence; it requires written communication to accuse someone of using the wrong word. But English speakers who recognize a distinction between venomous and poisonous might be alarmed (whether the context is spoken or written) that SiFuh uses poisonous to describe the snakes he would eat.
