<remiliascarlet> Just learned about the `pax` compression format, which got introduced in OpenBSD 7.5, even though it already existed all the way back in 1995.
<serpente> waited all day.. worked, now i get back drunk still no answer on crux
<serpente> fuck
<serpente> we should commune
<serpente> not ignore
<serpente> so as in freedom of speech let me say fuck you all

<remiliascarlet> In Linux, Linus wants a Unix-like system. But Richard, Lennard, and corpoes like Red Hat, Microsoft, Google, Cloudflare, and FreeDesktop (ironically) Foundation all are like "fuck Unix-like, I want to do it my own way!". Except they all want to do it different from each other.
<remiliascarlet> Which is why it has become such a mess.
<SiFuh> I hate how the default is Alt+Ctrl+F7 is how you get to Xorg on Linux.
<SiFuh> OpenBSD uses Alt+Ctrl+F5 and you can do that with one hand.

<lavaball> Bad Request
<lavaball> and i need one for my half breed.
<farkuhar> A friend whom I've known for twelve years chose not to renew his apartment lease after the initial 12-month term, and thereby became a month-to-month renter. In such circumstances the landlord may issue Notice to Vacate without needing to provide an explanation. My friend suffered that fate a few weeks ago.
<farkuhar> It's not an exact parallel, but I do see similarities in yesterday's lack of response to serpente's question. Core maintainers are free to put whatever they want in core, without being answerable to CRUX users.
<farkuhar> dlcusa made the same point more succinctly: https://libera.irclog.whitequark.org/crux-social/2024-04-02#36096367;
<zorz> farkuhar: still linux ? :PPpp
<lavaball> meh.
<lavaball> more buttons.
<lavaball> i found a list.
<SiFuh> Oh, she is angry at me now. For fuck sake. I asked her to help me carry the heavy bench and she doesn't even move. So I picked it up and I am walking to the place where 'we' put it yesterday. I stop and look at the vacuum cleaner on the floor which is clearly in my way. She looks at me, then looks at the vacuum cleaner, then looks at me. So while I am standing there, holding this heavy bench in the
<SiFuh> air, I just kicked the vacuum cleaner across the room so I can put the bench down.
<SiFuh> farkuhar: So CRUX is no longer a project based on BSD style innit scripts, light weight and for the users, it is now just property for a handful of maintainers
<farkuhar> SiFuh: did you extrapolate the clause "for the users", or was it there in an earlier version of the handbook (and later deleted)? The handbook that I've seen only has the phrases "lightweight" and "BSD-style initscripts".
<farkuhar> Even allowing that "for the users" was part of the founding mandate, there's still jaeger's objection (maintainers are also users), so it's not a strict violation of "for the users" to put in the core collection a few ports that are only the majority preference of the core maintainers.
<SiFuh> Back in the beginning Per worked on a system and liked it, and made available to the public. He then asked for assistance. The early days, everyone was included in the discussion. Newbies to developer. Maintainers didn't actually exist yet.
<SiFuh> I don't agree with jaeger saying 'maintainers are also users' because this is just an excuse to give them more control over what the users want by saying they are users themselves.
<SiFuh> Joe Biden increases tax by 2,000% on all people earning 400K or less and then tells everyone it is good because he is also a person who earns 400k or less that makes it acceptable..
<SiFuh> CRUX has changed from a Constitutional monarch to a dictorship by a select few who have technically hijacked the distro for their own person gain.
<SiFuh> Monarchy*
<SiFuh> personal*
<SiFuh> Here the Department of Transport has abolished registration stickers for your window. Good, I thought they were stupid anyway. However, most people only know their registration is expiring by the sticker they see each time they are near the car. :-P But still, they are going digital and it is fine. However, even though the police and the transport department have computers to scan your plate you are
<SiFuh> still required to carry the proof as paper in your glove box. Maybe in case there is no internet?
<SiFuh> But it gets worse. They also abolished Driver's Licences. Now you must install their stupid app on your phone and register, with them and you will now have a digital Driver's Licence instead. But if your phone battery is flat. Then you are required to have your old expired licence on you and a print out of the updated licence as well. Even though the officer can ask you for your ID card and type that
<SiFuh> in. So what is the point of having a digital Driver's Licence if I still need to carry my old expired licence and a paper copy of the update?
<SiFuh> Worse still, it has been told that if you don't update your password every three months, you will be locked out of your account.
<SiFuh> Almost half way up the screen now
<farkuhar> SiFuh: is that after Alt+Ctrl+F5, when your video card switches to a new resolution?
<SiFuh> No
<SiFuh> farkuhar: It's dying. hardware issue. It has a 3 year warranty. I already took it in because it no longer wanted to turn on anymore. Now it is doing this. The warranty ends September
<SiFuh> 26 or 27th I will bring to the shop for repair. Then I will need to collect it again.
<farkuhar> SiFuh: at least it's an external monitor. Imagine how much downtime you'd suffer if the built-in laptop display had similar issues.
<SiFuh> 14 days
<SiFuh> I already sent the laptop in for a warranty claim as well. Was pissed off that they removed the protective plastic from the screen to repair the screen.
<SiFuh> Now I have the fucking technicians fingerpints on it
<SiFuh> farkuhar: I owned the laptop less than a week and the screen snapped because MSI tightents the hinges too tight
<SiFuh> farkuhar: I am hoping they repair this screen rather than replacing it. When I worked in the TV shop it always better to have the machines repaired than replaced because the repair job lasts a lot longer than a factory print.
<farkuhar> Wow, I guess I've been rather lucky not to have hardware breakage on any of my second-hand computers (which never came with a meaningful warranty anyway).
<SiFuh> farkuhar: I bought a Smart Phone from China last year. It died about 14 days after purchasing it. Here https://dpaste.com/HNPFT3KQJ.txt
<remiliascarlet> SiFuh: Yeah, I ended up installing that stupid woke Void Linux on a development machine that used to run CRUX. Even though I hate their maintainers, the fact it got hijacked by a bunch of troons, and how fucking slow they update their packages for a "rolling release" distro, but at least it comes with musl (so static linking is now possible at last!).
<SiFuh> farkuhar: 22 days not 14 days ;-)
<remiliascarlet> Reminds me, I bought a new toy for my cat the other day for the 3rd time. First time it survived 9 months, second time it survived 3 months, and 3rd time it literally broke upon unboxing. So I don't buy that toy from them ever again.
<farkuhar> remiliascarlet: isn't it curious that ukky asked about musl-based CRUX today, after expressing a preference for dynamic linking last week?
<SiFuh> remiliascarlet: Your cat learns fast ;-)
<SiFuh> farkuhar: Isn't it funny beerman had to reply?
<remiliascarlet> I remember him/her liking dynamic linking.
<SiFuh> We were working on a musl CRUX two years ago. And I ended up cancelling it early last year because it was a pain in the arse to recompile and modifiy all the ports
<remiliascarlet> But musl has other benefits too, like being a lot smaller and code correct for example.
<SiFuh> remiliascarlet: Code correct and OpenBSD doesn't use it ;-)
<remiliascarlet> But not sure if it'll ever happen. If they're planning on a systemd CRUX, then musl is going to be impossible.
<remiliascarlet> Because OpenBSD has its own libc.
<farkuhar> SiFuh: it's instructive to notice the questions (and questioners) that beerman deems worthy of a reply, versus the questions that he's happy to ignore.
<SiFuh> farkuhar: Yes, I have seen it over the years
<farkuhar> I wonder: if it had been ukky asking about linux-pam, would beerman feel more compelled to give an explanation?
<SiFuh> I think yesterdays issue was when ppetrov^ said serpente should be my friend and when serpente said he was, that was it. No one was going to reply to him.
<farkuhar> too bad ppetrov^ isn't here, or you could scold him for hijacking yesterday's discussion.
<SiFuh> I can send it to him in ICQ
<SiFuh> Bit hard to type in ICQ with that a display like mine currently
<SiFuh> farkuhar: He's laughing
<farkuhar> SiFuh: it doesn't take much to get a "rofl" out of ppetrov^
<SiFuh> Rolling Over the FIAT laughing?
<farkuhar> Ask him what he meant by the abbreviation (14:05 yesterday in #crux).

<SiFuh> The first entry for the initialism on Urban Dictionary dates back to October 2002
<farkuhar> reposting outdated flamebait lacklusterly?
<SiFuh> Oh it goes way back further than 2002. I first heard it in 1995
<farkuhar> How old is Urban Dictionary, though?
<SiFuh> No it says the entry was added. It has nothing to do with how old Urban Dictionary is. I am stating that it goes way back before the entry
<farkuhar> But if Urban Dictionary wasn't online in 1995, then the entry couldn't have been added then, right?
<SiFuh> Correct
<SiFuh> ROFL has been around since the very early days of the world wide web. Early adopters used it in IRC or internet relay chat as an alternative to LOL.
<SiFuh> Yes, but he has been around much earlier as well
<farkuhar> One of these days I'm going to add to /etc/hosts the line "127.0.0.1 twitter.com" to prevent me from opening your twitter links.
<SiFuh> HAHAHAHAHA
<SiFuh> I don't even have a twitter account
<SiFuh> I am a foreigner living in Malaysia but I hold a Malaysian driving license, do I still need a physical driving license?
<SiFuh> Wooohoooo
<SiFuh> Yes. Exemption is only for Malaysian citizens.

<farkuhar> SiFuh: if your efforts on a musl CRUX two years ago were "substantial", why didn't you mention them when ukky asked?
<SiFuh> Because it wasn't "substantial"
<SiFuh> farkuhar: I was actually using musl to make a CRUX iso smaller
<SiFuh> The bootable ISO will be MUSL but the installation will not be
<farkuhar> SiFuh: okay, that makes sense.
<SiFuh> I thought so too

<SiFuh> I made a call and cancelled your ferry
<zorz> SiFuh: want to tell you a fun fact.....
<SiFuh> Let me guess. The only way to remove geckoes from sticky tape is water and olive oil?
<zorz> what happened yesterday...... as i am updating the page, i miss the data of 1 supermarket.
<zorz> not to say much, they changed the html.... ok.... i read the html and fix this.
<SiFuh> If I give you CSV data, can you make it into a graph for me?
<zorz> ppetrov^: R gplot easily can do....
<zorz> but i can do to
<SiFuh> What is a R gplot?
<zorz> python... easy,,, i used to do t
<zorz> in R language the gplot is the graph library...... fuckin good library
<zorz> yes send the csv and i will do your graph tomorrow.
<SiFuh> zorz: I have hundreds of files
<zorz> ok
<zorz> hundreds of csv ?
<zorz> python its easy.... i used to to btc charts.
<ppetrov^> ggplot
<ppetrov^> 2
<zorz> ppetrov^: run his csv files.
<zorz> :P
<SiFuh> I sent you three zorz code
<ppetrov^> dude, i am on the verge of mental breakdown, trying to create a proper package
<zorz> what kind of chart you want ?
<SiFuh> xlsx format
<ppetrov^> so, no R for the weekend, please
<zorz> change them in csv its easier for me
<ppetrov^> xlsx can be easily imported by openxlsx
<zorz> ppetrov^: ok
<ppetrov^> lib in r
<SiFuh> https://s3.amazonaws.com/i.snag.gy/JaQM8b.jpg zorz something like this
<zorz> same in python, tomorrow i go to debian, install the libraries and make them for him.
<SiFuh> Them?
<zorz> this is bokeh i think
<SiFuh> I only gave you three
<zorz> you emailed them?
<SiFuh> No, I tapped them to a leg of a bug and it promised me it would fly to your home
<SiFuh> taped*
<zorz> if you want send them buy email,,, my sunday evening you will have them, plus bonus a python script to make them yourself.
<zorz> by*
<SiFuh> zorz: By the way. That wall I repainted yesterday. Same issues
<SiFuh> So yesterday I sanded it back again. Plastered the entire area. Today I will sand and prime and paint. Fucking pissed off with that wall now
<zorz> anyway let me finish what i was talking..... so I read the html and fix the scrape thing in python... at a point, they change the way of the prices and $1.00 i take it as 100 2708 is 27.08..... looking at the gode and i am louphing.... you know how i solve it ? Russian tech
<SiFuh> My father says "I have seen that before. The concrete has oil inside. Probably badly mixed plaster or the wall was never cleaned before painting"
<zorz> float_price = float(cleaned_price) / 100
<zorz> 100
<SiFuh> We both agree that it is probably their grubby fucking hands around the powerpoint leaking shit into the concrete
<zorz> then i went to gpt...... and ask what to do.... fuckin hell men.... its actually stupid.
<SiFuh> zorz: ?
<zorz> let go again.... on supermarket changed the html code so is difficult to scrap.
<SiFuh> You think a non-intelligent software that is know for copy and paste is intelligent?
<SiFuh> known*
<zorz> man i was shocked.....
<zorz> the most simple thing.... / 100 divide by hundred
<SiFuh> Then worse still, you went to this dumb shit?
<SiFuh> Hmm that makes you look kind of dumb as well dude.
<zorz> could not answer.... it gave me 20 lines of code to make this thing.
<SiFuh> So you were hoping to cheat?
<zorz> no i was checking.... what can do... the thing is stupid.
<SiFuh> It isn't stupid
<SiFuh> It has no intelligence at all
<zorz> exactly!
<SiFuh> It is just software that copies and pastes
<zorz> they should name it google 2
<SiFuh> Fucking hell. Why you never listen to me?
<zorz> or google next gen but not AI
<SiFuh> AI does not exist
<SiFuh> It will never exist
<zorz> yes its truth.
<SiFuh> It is just a catch phrase for a fucking search engine that does maths and reconstruction of shit that already exists
<zorz> bb 10 min
<SiFuh> zorz: I will make a call
<SiFuh> CNN Analyst Claims ‘Civil Unrest Across the Country’ If Trump Jailed Over Gag Violation
