<kprasadvnsi> How can I manually make a bootable image for rk3399 device? I am using the kernel, dtb, u-boot Deb package from the Armbian build.
<Armbian-Discord>
<kprasadvnsi> My rootfs is custom one.
<CRCinAU>
heh - I'm stuggling with the rk3399 too - but the Face-rk3399 one
<CRCinAU>
just trying to use their provided ubuntu image first......

<Tonymac32> well then, updating uboot might be a bit tougher than hoped 😄

<ertw> Hello, I'm looking to understand a bit better how general configuration works, and specifically how best to configure my USB otg port. I am using a Banana Pi Zero, and after much searching, I finally figured out how to set the USB port in host mode: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/13963-buster-image-on-banana-pi-pro-host-mode-activation-of-the-usb-otg-port/ What I'm wondering is if there is an easier way to do this, an
<Armbian-Discord>
can set this in a more declarative way so that I don't loose the config on system updates.
<[TheBug]>
just keep a copy of the dtb somewhere and make sure to place it back on upgrade over the one from package
<[TheBug]>
I assume thats what you are reffering to, I havent checking that link
<[TheBug]>
but I can guess from context
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> easy way is if overlay exits
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> so you can enable / disable that feature via armbian-config -> system -> hardware
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i don't know if we have overlay for this or not
pablocastellanos has joined #armbian
<pablocastellanos>
Hi
<Armbian-Discord>
<ertw> Oh awesome, I hadn't known about armbian-config. It looks like it doesn't have the overlay I'm looking for, but great to know about for the future. 👍
<Armbian-Discord>
<ertw> (The board I'm using isn't officially supported, it's just the most economical I've been able to find)
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> yeah, those are all the same, just different package
<pablocastellanos>
I'm using Armbian_20.11.3_Pinebook-a64_buster_legacy_5.4.82_desktop, and no more updates are available, it is dead?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> you can voolonteer for becoming an official maintainer perhaps 🙂
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> pablocastellanos: no, this means you probably don't read news 😉
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> but it should be updates
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: Nope, which news? LOL
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> we have dropped legacy on that branch i think some time ago
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: I assume it's no longer possible to build an image to produce an armbian bullseye var
<pablocastellanos>
*variant*
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> check build system. its too big to tell
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: Do you know why debian was dropped?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> if anything was dropped is due to lack of resources
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> generally speaking. usually not other reasons. everything is present, just support status differ
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> you can build Debian sid in with any desktop you like, but if it works or not ...
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: I understand, it took me months to prepare a list of packages to rebuild for arm on debian buster, precisely because those are only available in debian bullseye, but now that bullseye is stable I was going to download an armbian image
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: I think it would be easy to install debian bullseye from the official debian installers
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: I believe you, and is funny that a debian developer is saying the same in my quest to install bullseye on this pinebook.
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> nothing against, debian, we are using packages from debian and are a part of it, but general debian is now where we were few years ago
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i would anyway recommend you to use ubuntu builds for this board ... but you know why you want debian
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: I need binary compatibility with buster or bullseye, or to rebuild a lot of ubuntu packages.
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> ok, then you need to build an image with our tools. xfce desktop should be fine, others no diea
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> updates will be comming up
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: And because audio is not supported yet on armbian buster (neither mesa) I was expecting support on a future armbian bullseye
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> the reasons why we don't provide pimped debian is simple
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> lack of resources
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> everyone would just like to have everything operation, better then a 1000 people company could deliver. armbian is dependent on 10-20 voolonteers
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: I'm going to make an schedule, I was planning to build my own image since January (when I bought this pinebook), but COVID give me a lot of work and no spare time. Again, I understand the lack of resources, I work on an institution with very limited resources.
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> it depends what / where

Yeah core duo isn't to bad. slap in an ssd and max out the ram. It does ok. Its not winning any awards or anything, but yeah.
<sunshavi>
core duo is great. It does have thi intel-ME thing

<ArmbianHelper>
sunshavi meant to say: core duo is great. It does NOT have thi intel-ME thing
<c0rnelius>
I wouldn't use it for compiling, but for just getting work done its ok. Wanna compile and build something just ssh into the N2+ and let that lil grrl get it done.
<[TheBug]>
G'day sunshavi
<sunshavi>
good day TheBug
<sunshavi>
TheBug: how is rockpro behaving?
<IgorPec>
bug hi
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: Yes, it's an upgrade
<pablocastellanos>
Armbian-Discord: IgorPec: How do you bridge discord and libera?
<[TheBug]>
sunshavi: actually because of the on-built pcie slot on the board I may actually like it better for my use case than the RockPi 4c in the long run -- the m.2 to pcie adapter on RockPi 4c is a bit of a pain in the dick for setting up in a case for NAS use compared. That said RockPi 4c is stable on a newer kernel than RockPro64, RockPro64 seems stuck on 5.10.16 for now as there is some nasty
<sunshavi>
TheBug: the good side. It is stuck on an LTS. :)
<sunshavi>

<Tonymac32> [TheBug] this was explained to me by a user on another discord, all we have to do is use an EFI bootloader and mainline kernel and everything will just work. :)
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> I can't believe I've been doing it wrong all this time....
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> rpi users 😉
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Lol well then the definition of just work is quite low
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> 🤣
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> In their defense they just don't know
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> And the reality is too ridiculous to easily explain without being rejected 🤦♂️😂
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> So Igor, on Tinkerboard I think we update U-boot and forget about the UMS mode for now. I can ask Asus to work out patches if they would like that function in the newer bootloader
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> they will probably not deal with this old horse
<[TheBug]>
Tonymac32: sorry I am inbetween a lot of convos, which was that reply in regards to?
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> That's up to them haha
<[TheBug]>
s/which/which board
<ArmbianHelper>
[TheBug] meant to say: Tonymac32: sorry I am inbetween a lot of convos, which board was that reply in regards to?
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> [TheBug] the USB regressions in new kernels, I was recently in a discussion where the user couldn't understand why we weren't just using unmodified mainline
<[TheBug]>
ahhh
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> So I was being sarcastic
<[TheBug]>
gotcha
