<prabhakarlad> mmind00: I was about to test your v2 series but I am seeing build issues. I remember for v1 you had build issues with fs/. I didn't see anything in the cover note so just checking here first.

<mmind00> prabhakarlad: conchuod also found some issues yesterday ... I'm hoping to get these addressed today ... also find a better base-commit :-)
<conchuod> I've still got a few more patches in that to review btw
<conchuod> I meant to look at that whole series yesterday, but PC issues happened
<conchuod> In terms of base, riscv/for-next or riscv/fixes would probably be the best
<mmind00> conchuod: no worries - it looks like with moving all the cleanups in front I messed up the ordering of things
<conchuod> At least, if it's one of those two the pw stuff should at least be able to build everything
<prabhakarlad> mmind00: thanks, meanwhile I can get around by dropping last two patches and test it.
<conchuod> Which two are broken for you?
<prabhakarlad> conchuod: Im not sure if its patch #12 or #13, I see the below build issue:
<prabhakarlad> riscv64-unknown-linux-gnu-ld: sound/core/init.o: in function `.L8865':
<prabhakarlad> init.c:(.text+0x127a): undefined reference to `strlen'
<prabhakarlad> riscv64-unknown-linux-gnu-ld: net/ipv4/ip_tunnel.o: in function `.L8861':
<prabhakarlad> ip_tunnel.c:(.text+0x630): undefined reference to `strlen'
<prabhakarlad> make[1]: *** [scripts/Makefile.vmlinux:34: vmlinux] Error 1
<prabhakarlad> make: *** [Makefile:1236: vmlinux] Error 2
<conchuod> 👍

<mmind00> prabhakarlad: when I was testing Andrew's alternative cleanups and disabled alternatives for testing, I also _again_ ran into those ... I _think_ I do have them under control now though

<Esmil> mmind00: hey, thanks for updating the "fix auipc-jalr addresses" patch to not do unaligned access
<Esmil> ..but now i wonder if we also ought to do explicit little endian reads in case someone builds a big-endian machine
<Esmil> sorry i didn't think about that before. maybe doesn't even matter since probably noone is going to do that
<muurkha> it was legalized in recent versions of the RISC-V spec, so either someone was trying to sabotage the spec process or they really want to build one
<Esmil> *explicit little endian reads of the parcels to be clear
<Esmil> muurkha: interesting. i know that at some point the spec was updated to change each parcel from native endian to little endian
<muurkha> until fairly recent versions of the spec, RISC-V was defined to be little-endian, so those were the same

<jrtc27> conchuod: apologies for making you respin a patch for your beloved regex yet again :)
<conchuod> jrtc27: meh, I never mind respinning something that is wrong :)
<conchuod> "beloved" got a good snort out of me though haha
<jrtc27> :)
<jrtc27> just you wait until you have to support the P extension in it
<jrtc27> because that's special cased due to ambiguity with fooXpY....
<conchuod> Ahh you see - ace card
<conchuod> I said I am not doing version numbers
<conchuod> I refuse to add that without named match groups - I'd rather take ^rv*$
<jrtc27> maybe at that point it'd be "just put a proper damn parser in dt-schema"
<jrtc27> which is gross but probably the only proper way...
<conchuod> If you want to do the version numbering with regex, you need something like the last line of this diff
<jrtc27> I regret opening that
<conchuod> But that nice named group is not supported by whatever regex subset json-schema uses
<conchuod> I regret writing it!
<geertu> jrtc27: UK* instructions? ;-)

<jrtc27> hm?

<jahro_me> does somebody know, if the gnu embedded toolchain from https://www.sifive.com/software will work on arm64 debian?
<jahro_me> building myself from https://github.com/sifive/freedom-tools doesn't work for me..
___nick___ has quit [Quit: https://quassel-irc.org - Chat comfortably. Anywhere.]
<jrtc27> the links all say x86_64 in them
<jrtc27> so no
<jrtc27> not unless you want to run the toolchain in an emulator like qemu-user
___nick___ has joined #riscv
___nick___ has quit [Client Quit]
___nick___ has joined #riscv
<palmer> the core of that stuff is open source, though, so you should be able to build the SiFive toolchain forks on arm64
<palmer> IIRC the build system is garbage, though, so you might be better off just using upstream
prabhakarlad has quit [Quit: Client closed]
<conchuod> Looks quite old too?
<muurkha> qemu-user is plausibly a reasonable solution for many things, but getting the right libraries installed can be a struggle. admittedly this is probably less of a difficulty for emulating amd64 on risc-v than vice versa
davidlt has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<conchuod> palmer: should the bit about counters be available in userspace being uAPI also be noted in this uAPI doc?
<palmer> sounds reasonable
<palmer> it's essentially the same as the misaligned access thing
