I worked on a big MPEG-2 SOC when I was at LSI Logic. To validate the chips, we had these giant bring-up boards that brought out every interface. https://www.w6rz.net/DCP_1230.JPG
<palmer>
ya, I guess SOC is as equally dead of a term as ARCH is... Maybe something like VENDOR is better? I'd still run with ARCH, though, as it's less churn

I think the mainboard/soc vs. cpu distinction is still a useful one

however, I try to avoid having opinions about linux kernel config :-)

They used to spend a ton of money on those. Every developer got one and then they were just scrapped when the next chip taped out. I took that one home.

It's hooked to my cable TV box.

All of the above is probably the case too.

At that time the engineering staff at LSI Logic was all kids from Europe, mostly Italians (there were 3 guys named Luca). Some of them lived in a rented house in Palo Alto that they called the "Pleasure Lounge". They would have huge parties there and at 4am (if you lasted that long) they would cook some spaghetti (no sauce, just olive oil). Of course, when you're hammered, it's just so awesome.
<MoeIcenowy>
Esmil: BTW will you do mainlining of JH7110, or just Hal Feng?
<Esmil>
MoeIcenowy: Hal will do the upstreaming but i'll be reviewing and helping as best I can

conchuod: what was Heiko's IRC alias? I remember you mentioned earlier and Ive lost it. I got some query with ALT() macro. Thanks.

Thank you:)
<prabhakarlad>
mmind00: Ive implemented the ASM part to save-> call->restore and tested. Now when I add the ASM part to the ALT() macro I get "Error: attempt to move .org backwards" this is due to use of call in there ie if I replace the call with some other instruction say mv it compiles OK. So what is the size of call op or is there a better approach that im
