<conchuod> To me it's a question of what already exists & what do their timers do.
<conchuod> Pick whoever is in the minority and give them the property haha
<conchuod> smaeul: do you have a link to the GitHub issue or w/e handy? I had a bit of a look on prs/issues on the opensbi repo but could not see it

<palmer> smaeul conchuod: my argument is essentially that those non-retentive suspend states as defined in the SBI spec aren't useful, so we need the DT property to ack into them working
<palmer> IMO the Arm approach makes sense when the spec is defined to work and there's bugs in the implementation, we're the other way around and the DT should be as well
<conchuod> palmer: since you're here.. can I beat my dead horse about that soc email again?
<conchuod> Sorry for bothering you about it all the time...
<palmer> ya, sorry
<palmer> NP
<conchuod> Rebuilding my machine today so prob will be tomorrow before I actually look at the suspend thing..
<conchuod> Got a 7950x :)
<palmer> fancy, I just bought something old off ebay to update my 2500k ;)
<conchuod> Had a 4790k before that got sort killed by a power surge
<conchuod> At 100% cpu load it crashes... Welcome upgrade

<arnd> palmer: I started looking at converting include/uapi/asm-generic/unistd.h into the syscall.tbl format. I looks like we accidentally ended up enabling the time32 syscalls in compat mode even though they are turned off in native mode. Does that match what you see?
<palmer> I can look, but you know this stuff way better than I do
<palmer> It’s probably just a bug, when we merged the compat stuff it was with a “this matched the rv32 uabi and we’ll fix any differences as a bug” caveat, so I think we can just fix it
prabhakarlad has joined #riscv
radu242754 has joined #riscv
<arnd> right, the main question for me is how urgently I need to fix it for stable backports. Maybe I'll continue with my series for the moment, and think about the fix afterwards. At the moment, it gets fixed as a side-effect of another change, but I probably don't want my larger patch to need a backport

<drewfustini> @palmer: do you know if there will be RISC-V dev room at fosdem?
davidlt has joined #riscv
<geertu> drewfustini: Sunday, first halve
<drewfustini> Awesome, thanks
<rneese> are they streaming it and what cost
<drewfustini> I believe usually there is streaming. It is always free of cost to attend
jjido has joined #riscv
<rneese> I am stuck in the US and streaming is the only way to attend
<rneese> I am woring to make a linux clone of the riscos desktop. and hope to have it avaible this coming year
<rneese> I grew up on riscos and a archamedies 3020 and a pc600
<drewfustini> I think attending remotely is a good experience as long as you can adapt to European time
<rneese> I can
<rneese> I do for most the winter
<rneese> just saw this
<rneese> I would love to have this shrunk and made back into a desktop for boards
<rneese> make it multi back panel and multi keys for boards
<rneese> just to have a retro style case

<rneese> but here is the question do wa base it off xfce/icewm or sawfish .?
<rneese> only ones I have seen themes for
<rneese> update-alternatives: using /usr/bin/sawfish to provide /usr/bin/x-window-manager (x-window-manager) in auto mode
<rneese> ERROR: sawfish is broken - called emacs-package-install as a new-style add-on, but has no compat file.
<rneese> so it looks like ice or xfce
<muurkha> you might end up writing your own wm eventually. also when you're forced to switch to wayland you'll probalby have to

<rneese> we have a os img on usbunt and sid for it now build for starfive and thed1
<rneese> s/thed1/ the d1
<muurkha> nice! how does it feel? I'd think the D1 should be plenty zippy enough for icewm if you aren't also doing some kind of compiz translucency thing
<rneese> its working great 150bables uses it and I have it on the starfive and xfce on the beaglev that has been updated

<pabs3> rneese: TIL the riscos source code is publicly available https://www.riscosopen.org/content/downloads/risc-os-tarballs
<rneese> its 32bit and overall would need a complete reright
<rneese> rewrite
<rneese> I have it on a pi4
<pabs3> ah
<rneese> and I just am looking to make a themed setup using more update apps that could be a retro look
<rneese> you have to use the riscos emulator to run the img as it is now
<pabs3> looks like the existing source is freely licensed too - Apache 2.0
vagrantc has joined #riscv
<rneese> I can get icons and there is start to a theme
<muurkha> pabs3: holy crap, that's great!
<muurkha> rneese: you could maybe run RISC-OS code on a RISC-V in QEMU?
<rneese> but I would like to overall make it like using rox desktop but its outdated writen in python and world need s maojor rewrite also
<rneese> it would take some work but should be able to
<rneese> but I think make s a updated system but make it look and semi act like riscos is a start
<rneese> and then theme the apps to look as such
<rneese> would be the closest but it wont load up
<rneese> zero install does not work either
