<solrize> the module is 7 usd and there is a 20usd breakout for it with a display and ports and stuff https://www.seeedstudio.com/Sipeed-M1s-Dock-AI-with-1-69-Inch-CTP-p-5545.html

<palmer> conchuod: geertu I'm happy to do some sort of shared tag or whatever for that vendor-prefixes thing, but IMO it's overkill -- there's no way to gloabally avoid conflicts in a file like that, so whatever
<conchuod> I don't think you need to do anything palmer as the merge conflict would crop up going into the soc tree

<conchuod> It's only really a conflict b/c it's a re-order anyway, usually all that should be done there is adding lines.

<palmer> ya, but in practice those files always have conflicts

<palmer> bjdooks: nothing super concrete, but a bunch of folks are around. You're just going to the RISC-V conference?
<rneese> dont forget the openhours call this wekk wednesday also
<rneese> 9am
<rneese> RISC-V Open Hours
<rneese> Wed, Nov 23, 9:00 AM (PST)
<rneese> RISC-V Open Hours
<rneese> this is a online video conf call
<conchuod> I am there 11th -> 16th bjdooks - and I don't think I am doing anything any day apart from the likely microchip dinner some evening.
<bjdooks> I technically get in the 11th but it'll be about 10pm
prabhakarlad has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<bjdooks> I think I get the members day too but everything else I was meant to be doing is cancelled
<bjdooks> Flying back I think the 16th out of SFO

<jahro_me> Hi room, I have a SiFive HiFive1RevB and I wonder if and how I can start using and developing for it on a aarch64 linux system
<conchuod> Ye apparently I've got that day too ben
<jahro_me> Has anyone got it running/set up toolchain for aarch64?
<jahro_me> I have all dependencies for https://github.com/sifive/freedom-tools installed
<jahro_me> but I don't know, how to start debugging
<jahro_me> and the sources for freedomStudio are empty https://github.com/sifive/freedom-studio
<jahro_me> wmat: thanks for the hint, i will look if that's enough :)

<rneese> openocd
<rneese> lol
<rneese> I dont want my ocd to be open
<conchuod> I don't want mine at all :)
<jahro_me> thanks for the links
<rneese> so are they compiling native or using arm to compile
<jahro_me> i am still reading the getting started guide and linked docs
<jahro_me> it seems all nicely documented
<rneese> well I have been working with starfive
<jahro_me> i was trying to get an unmatched board, but they are almost unaffordable on aliexpress
<jahro_me> for the beginning and learning i will stick to highfive, but starfive looks interesting too
junaid_ has quit [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]
<rneese> yes the unmatched are to rich for my blood
<rneese> and my v2 visionfive shoul dbe here in a week
<rneese> those of you in the US who want to pre order a board for full release
<rneese> is the main resource
<bjdooks> The unmatched have been out of production for a while
<jahro_me> i've read about a cooperation with intel? is it true?
<conchuod> horse creek?
<jahro_me> yes
<jahro_me> no conspiracy here, but will it be still open?
<jahro_me> maybe unmatched will be the last "free" board by sifive
<jrtc27> unmatched is not and never has been open
<jrtc27> sifive's core ip is proprietary
<jrtc27> even the unleashed's u54, which was *based* on the open source rocket core, but modified
<jahro_me> can you explain, what these "modifications" are?
<jahro_me> ohh wait.. I'll guess
<jahro_me> drm
<jrtc27> who knows, it's proprietary
<jrtc27> ... no
<conchuod> DRM? They just didn't release RTL etc etc for those cores.
<conchuod> Have to pay good money for it!
<jahro_me> RTL?
qwestion has joined #riscv
<muurkha> "register-transfer level" is one of the levels of abstraction on the path from HDL source code to working hardware
<muurkha> crudely I think the toolchain goes something like HDL → RTL → gate-level → netlists → layout
aerkiaga has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<muurkha> (except that you can express RTL, gate-level descriptions, and netlists in the HDL as well)
<jahro_me> can hifive 1revB be regarded as "open"?
<jahro_me> we can download the schematics
<palmer> the board is open, the chip is not
<jrtc27> binary open/closed isn't really all that useful, it's all shades of openness...
<jrtc27> maybe the schematic is open, maybe the RTL is open, maybe the cell library is open, ..
