<rneese> so anyone here good with cad case design that could shrink down the pc600 case and make it so w could dhave a swapable back plate
<rneese> I want to kinda work to revive the pc600 with the pc600 mini and I am working to make xfce look and feel like the old riscos
<rneese> it might not work and fell 100% like the os but I will do what I can
<rneese> just think alot of riscos users would enjoy the old look and feel

<rneese> anyone here get visionfive to boot of usb
<bjdooks> not got my new one yet
<rneese> or is it in the works do we need to rebuild uboot ?
<bjdooks> and i've had years of therapy to try and forget riscovs
<rneese> lol
<rneese> ok
<mps> rneese: on VF v1 I don't see usb enabled in u-boot
<rneese> I haok this means u-boot needs a rebuild
<rneese> grr I have never done this
<rneese> they should have enabled it when they first built it
<mps> is there driver in u-boot VF v1
<mps> usb driver I mean
<mps> would be interesting to boot from usb ssd instead of mmc
<rneese> theould be if you use the 2021 src
<rneese> yes
<rneese> and usb thumbdrive
<mps> ahm, so it is not enabled by default
<rneese> havingthe sd card open for use
<cousteau> I should get me a risc-v
<mps> I tried to enable video driver but it didn't worked
<cousteau> ...maybe I should WRITE my own risc-v! Wonder how hard that can be, at least a minimal RV32/64IMC
<rneese> riscv-os
<rneese> or a full on os
<rneese> hmm
<rneese> I think the option should be in the latest src
<mps> looking on u-boot git repo for VF v1 looks like it would be complicated to rebase on current u-boot mainline
motherfsck has joined #riscv
<rneese> uboot 2021 code shold be patched already
<rneese> looking for the link
<mps> yes, this
<mps> I meant rebase this to mainline u-boot
<rneese> ahh ok
<rneese> you would think this code being 2021 it would have usb booting in it
<mps> yes, I expect this but without check couldn't be sure
<rneese> - USB Device:
<rneese> its in the md
<rneese> - USB Support:
<rneese> supported (PIP405, MIP405); define
<rneese> At the moment only the UHCI host controller is
<rneese> CONFIG_USB_UHCI to enable it.
<rneese> define CONFIG_USB_KEYBOARD to enable the USB Keyboard
<rneese> and define CONFIG_USB_STORAGE to enable the USB
<rneese> storage devices.
<mps> have first to look in kernel what is needed for usb
<mps> (these usb-c hubs could be used as heating devices)
<rneese> man alot to learn and work on the os at the same time
<mps> it is ' 0.425747] xhci-hcd xhci-hcd.0.auto: xHCI Host Controller'
<mps> heh, life with open source
<rneese> so if its enabled we should be able to rebuild and enable usb
<mps> and if the proper driver is there
<mps> lsusb.py says it is GenesysLogic chip
<rneese> man I just got email frome amerdroid they expect to start shipping the v2 end of jan start of feb
<rneese> wow
<rneese> so till then its just a matter of updating this for now
<mps> (it is so slow to develop for riscv with qemu-user)
<mps> I'm waiting for good bare metal machine which would be comfortable for development
<rneese> some day

<rneese> well right now I will finish desktops I am working on cleaning up the install using task-name-desktop
<rneese> and removing alot of unused crap
<rneese> this way I can work on better images of desktops to make it easier for users
<rneese> I just want to have this so we can theme it easier
<rneese> ok bbl work to do 1 desktop at a time

<conchuod> rneese: why do you want to support 701 different desktops for armbian/riscvbian?
<conchuod> Would it not be a better use of your time to focus on a handful of more popular ones?
<rneese> I am doing the basics + 1 we have icewm/lxde/lxqt/mate/xfce
<rneese> but when we get the v2 I will add a few more
<rneese> like budgie/cinnamon/
<rneese> I like cinnamon but it does nto runon the v1
<rneese> nor does budgie
<rneese> not focusing on every desktop
<rneese> gnome has issues on the v1 also
<rneese> so if they want it on the v2 they can work on it
<conchuod> hah
<conchuod> Sounds fair enough to me!
<q66> i have gnome working fine on riscv
<rneese> on the visonfive v1
<rneese> os diff board
<q66> on hifive unmatched, but i don't see why it would matter
<rneese> because the visionfive v1 and the beaglev dont have a gpu/vpu
<rneese> it uses a simple lcd to hdmi bridge
<rneese> and no acceleration
<q66> doesn't really matter, gnome works fine with software rasterizer
<q66> it'll be kinda slow because llvmpipe does not support riscv properly
<rneese> well when I tried it is was slow and unstablel and hard to use so I left it for later
<q66> softpipe is a robust fallback though
<rneese> ok
<rneese> well for fight now I cma cleaning up the ones I have working
<rneese> and checking pkg list to shrink down and make cleaner
<rneese> my goal is tho get things ready asap and try to get new img builds going and avaible
<rneese> I have fallen behind due to health adn holidays
<rneese> now I have to find out othe up coming specifics
<rneese> for debian
