<Guest46>
I just installed kiss. Sway will load. However, all I have is a white screen an I'm unable to launch foot. I imagine it is something to do with not having a font installed. Is there a font in the main repo that I should install?

sourcehut
<GalaxyNova>
why's that

By shitlab you mean their "official" instance ?

Their instance has trackers, and shitlab in general is super js heavy

well i can't afford to pay for sourcehut :/

<GalaxyNova>
is codeberge better?

Codeberg is fine

<acheam_>
testuser[m]: he could
<acheam_>
but I don't think he would
<GalaxyNova>

godaddy for vps ?

yes

Since I'm 15 I'm in a complicated situation where I cannot afford to pay for even the cheapest VPS and my parents already had a contract with godaddy so we arranged some things

no, it was a certain unah77

he removed a subshell from a check and I'm reviwing it, apparently he used set to make globbing work without a printf subshell, but he forgot that doing that overwrites the arguments which get used right after setting them.

To make my webcam work in firefox, do it need webrtc for it?
<claudia>
It works and I can record it through ffmpeg, but no luck so far in firefox. Just green screen.

to stream data from webcam you need webrtc

Btw, to properly build chromium, I have to borrow ram from 3 different machines and put it into my most powerfull, but building in tmpfs is still not possible then^^

Anybody here know why grep is not printing backslash? I know it's an escape character but if I am reading the string "0\.8" for example into a variable, I want the grep output to be literal "0.\8" instead of "0.8"
michalsieron has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<Guest52>
Here is my regex to match float between 0-1 (with 0 and 1 included): grep '^[0]*[.][0-9][0-9]*$\|^[0-1]$'
<Guest52>
Also i know the brackets around the zero aren't needed sorry
dazorin has joined #kisslinux
<Guest52>
For some reason patterns such as 0.\6 and 0\.6 are both accepted and I think it's because \ is an escape character but is there a way for grep to interpret the string literally with backslashes?
<Guest52>
Or maybe I am just misundering grep
<Guest52>
ang
<Guest52>
Err okay so never mind the issue is with read. Need -r flag never mind
<ang>
you pretty much ALWAYS want `read -r`
<Guest52>
Ok can this ork for getopts too?
<ang>
what?
<Guest52>
Like if I am using getopts and enter the arg as \, it is still escaped by the shell
<dazorin>
Hey there! I dont think the sound is muted. I have manually un muyrd it and it still doesnt seem to be working.
<ang>
if you properly quote or escape the backslash, your shell script will retreive it properly
acheam has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<dazorin>
soliwilos I hope this is the way to tag someone
<ang>
scripts.sh '\' "\\" \\
<ang>
will call your script with $1, $2 and $3 being a backslash
<Guest52>
Ok, well the script I am working on should be called like script.sh -a 0.5 for example where the -a takes in a number

dazorin: It's muted if alsamixer shows "MM" instead of "OO" in the little rectangle between the volume number and the volume bar.
<Guest52>
@ang Nevermind on second thought I guess what I was asking is not possible because if the user enters \ from their own shell it will be escaped on their end so "suppressing" it would kinda break the whole idea of shell escaping
<Guest52>
Breaking functionality on the users' end
<soliwilos>
dazorin: You can toggle it in alsamixer by pressing the "m"-key.

Guest52, I'm really not sure I can follow
<ang>
all you want to do is check if an option parameter is a valid float, right?
<dazorin>
soliwilos OMG!! Thank you so much man! Thats a huge favour for me who was frustrated why this isnt working. I cant thank you enough man!!!
<msk[m]>

alright now since i'm on my laptop, here's dazorin70, alt of dazorin!
<dazorin70>
msk yeah that was because i was concentrating on the volume bar without noticing what's written beneath because tbh it doesn't really tell you that its muted because there's no mute wrritten
<dazorin70>
So i guess because of all of that I just uninstalled wyverkiss that I spend like +3 days to configure (because my laptop is slow).

<msk[m]>
dazorin if it said "Mute" it would take up quite a lot of horizontal space
<msk[m]>
the background colour of OO/MM changes as well

Yes but it would probably save a lot of time of people like me -_-

but i have two questions now, first, in the boot sequence, it tells me that it failed to create /dev/null, because it's read only
<breacage>
second is, what repo should i use as the community one now?
<soliwilos>
breacage: I haven't used the busybox init, but is /dev being mounted as a devtmpfs?
<soliwilos>
You can just write "mount" after having logged in as a user and it will list all the mounted filesystems.
<breacage>
yes, dev on /dev type devtmpfs
