black screen issue again
<missMyN900>
after boot I pressed the power button and briefly saw the power button menu in portrait mode
Twig has joined #maemo-leste
<missMyN900>
then I rotated the phone and got the black screen
<missMyN900>
when I rotate the phone I can see the screen very briefly turn off and then it turns on again, so basically it appears to be switching screen orientation but the screen is still black (but on!)
<missMyN900>
oh now it is working again when I press the power button
<missMyN900>
the notification led was yellow also
<missMyN900>
just tried to install some packages from extras that are on GitHub but apt can't find them
<missMyN900>
I cannot scroll in the settings menu of Hamster Filer
<missMyN900>
I can see Orientation is set to "Automatic" by default but that does not work either
<missMyN900>
when I closed Hamster Filer, it did appear to switch orientation (I briefly saw the flip animation that I remember from my N900 days)
<missMyN900>
now I have the black screen again...
<missMyN900>
when I rotate the phone, I can see the screen briefly turn off again as described before
<missMyN900>
the OS is definitely not entirely freezing therefore
<missMyN900>
since it does respond to an orientation change
<missMyN900>
rapidly pressed the power button multiple times and I got the lock screen again
<missMyN900>
it is working normally again
<missMyN900>
hopefully this is helpful information
<missMyN900>
this must be related to X11 somehow, maybe it also involves Lima if it does not occur on the mapphones (and N900)
<uvos__>
norayr: no sutch thing as a verizon locked d4, they are all unlocked except in the us.
<uvos__>
verizon has been using sims ever since switching to lte (so d4 is one of the first with a sim slot)
<uvos__>
power consumption without sim is fine but you have to issue CFUN=0 to the modem
<uvos__>
on android its allways fine, not sure how it avoids this bug
<uvos__>
its a bug/bheavior quirrk of the modem

08:32:44 < uvos__> power consumption without sim is fine but you have to issue CFUN=0 to the modem
<buZz>
ah
<freemangordon>
Wizzup: also, re osso-applet-accounts-l10n - shall I mark non-english strings as untranslated?
<norayr>
not very useful... i also read git-buildpackage and gbp.conf manuals. :/
<norayr>
compared build process to other packages. compared rules/control files.
<norayr>
something very easy is here..
<sicelo>
Haven't followed the context fully, but, why don't you just use simple versioning instead of that date+NmN versioning? Yours is an extras package, so I don't believe you're required to name things that way
<sicelo>
At least my packages don't use that method

<norayr>
sicelo: i don't use date anymore, i tried many versions.
<norayr>
last one is just 0.1 in changelog, and 0.1 tag.
<norayr>
last error is:
<norayr>
gbp:error: Non-native package 'lagrange' has invalid version '0.1+2m7'
<norayr>
this 2m7 gets added to other packages as well.
<freemangordon>
norayr: does 'gbp buildpackage' succeeds locally?
<norayr>
i only tried dpkg-buildpackage. let me try!!!
<norayr>
freemangordon: wow, same error.
<freemangordon>
try with version 0.0.1
<norayr>
gbp:error: Non-native package 'lagrange' has invalid version '0.0.1'
<norayr>
but i didn't add the tag. but it took the version from changelog.
<freemangordon>
you need tag
<freemangordon>
sec, will clone and check
<norayr>
i did git tag 0.0.1
<norayr>
and same error.
<freemangordon>
ok
<freemangordon>
maybe debian/format is wrong
<freemangordon>
as afaik non-native packages should have version numbers like x.y.z-n
<freemangordon>
but lemme try it here first
<norayr>
thaaanks
<norayr>
interesting, with that i have gbp:error: 0.0.1 is not a valid treeish
<norayr>
omg i was so concentrated to other things i missed it.
<norayr>
hmmm, why unwanted? i mention it and use in CMakeLists.txt
<norayr>
i understand that doesn't make it unwanted. but anyway.
<norayr>
how do i declare it wanted?
mardy has quit [Quit: WeeChat 2.8]
<norayr>
i can put it to other directory
<norayr>
it doesn't generate that error locally. att least it didn.t

<Wizzup>
typically I just take an existing package that already works and clone most of the debian glue stuff
<norayr>
ok it passed, now i have problem with cmake in-source builds.
<norayr>
hopefully will figure it out.
<missMyN900>
I provided some more information on the black screen bug last night (UTC-7, that is)
<missMyN900>
I have also discovered that it seems that I can pretty reliably work around it by pressing the power button multiple times in rapid succession
<missMyN900>
I also did a little experiment to test the battery drain
<missMyN900>
according to the battery indicator the battery was roughly 50% full (it does not show a percentage) when I put the PP in offline mode and locked the screen before going to bed
<missMyN900>
unfortunately the phone was completely dead 8 hours later when I woke up
<missMyN900>
so in other words, the drain is pretty severe and it is not the WiFi/modem that is causing it
<missMyN900>
it also seems to me that this is a scenario where the A64 suspend should at least be highly effective, so surely there must still be some room for improvement for ML on the PP?
<norayr>
50% is 8 hours is cool.
<norayr>
you can measure the power in console by
<norayr>
upower -d
<Wizzup>
missMyN900: sounds like a bug in mce wrt black screen

<missMyN900>
Wizzup: yes, I was starting to think that as well
<Wizzup>
and yes, we could integrate suspend to ram on the pp, but that will severely limit many things
<missMyN900>
just read an article that claims Mobian/Phosh achieves 24 hours standby time *with the modem enabled*, so seems like ML should be able to do better in offline mode
Pali has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<Wizzup>
yes, but that means nothing else will work
<Wizzup>
e.g. you can't listen to music
<Wizzup>
or keep some application listening to internet traffic for incoming xmpp messages
<missMyN900>
Wizzup: honestly, that is acceptable to me for tablet use. I plan on just using my Pinephone as a mini Pinetab with LTE available should I need it
<missMyN900>
Wizzup: furthermore, the effort should transfer to the actual Pinetab itself since it has exactly the same SoC
<missMyN900>
and the Pinetab IMHO could truly be a great Maemo Leste device, especially for dev
<Wizzup>
missMyN900: right, it's useful but not really for "our" normal phone purposes
<Wizzup>
but yes, it ought to be worked on some, it could be done with some mce module probably
<missMyN900>
It is cheap and versatile (Pinetab)
<Wizzup>
like lock -> sleep unless in call
<Wizzup>
yes, I have a pinetab
<Wizzup>
I brought it with me on my trip to make it work again, I have the dev version with an older panel
<missMyN900>
that is great to hear
<Wizzup>
it ought to already just work for pinetab,s except for one boot.scr thing
