<phoebos>
hi, another night of not sleeping :p
<phoebos>
been doing pthreads things
<testuser[m]>
rich
<testuser[m]>
for what
<phoebos>
a uni project
<phoebos>
not that it really needs threads
<phoebos>
but it makes it more interesting
<phoebos>
and quicker
<testuser[m]>
what is it about
<phoebos>
it's a monte carlo simulation thingy, so parallelisation works fine
<phoebos>
took me a while to realise i wasn't getting the right results because all the threads were calling drand48(3) without any thread safety lol
<testuser[m]>
use sanitizers kids
<phoebos>
would be a good idea
<testuser[m]>
locking for a random no. function would remove all benefits of parallelizing anyway, better use rand_r or something
<phoebos>
aye, i switched to erand48
<testuser[m]>
oh
<testuser[m]>
nice
<phoebos>
also for a couple of weeks valgrind kept giving weird warnings on so many of my programs
<phoebos>
then i ran it with another version of valgrind
<phoebos>
and no errors
<phoebos>
so many headaches
<phoebos>
idk why my kiss build of it was dodgy
<testuser[m]>
thats what you get for not writing in rust
<phoebos>
um

gees. kiss linux. here i've been using sabotage linux and dreaming of making it a wayland only desktop with a udev/dbus free sway.

<sad_plan>
hey
<phinxy>
Hi o/
<sad_plan>
is anyone else also having issues with building cmake lately? I cant for the life of me get it to detect zlib properly, for some reason
<sad_plan>
keep getting this error: -- Could NOT find ZLIB (missing: ZLIB_LIBRARY) (found version "1.2.11")
<testuser[m]>
Are u messing with static stuff again
<sad_plan>
specifying its path does not work either. nor does disabling it :')
<sad_plan>
lol, initially yes, but not atm. im just trying to build webkit
<sad_plan>
shared
<sad_plan>
Its all on a shared system, so I know libz.so exist.
<sad_plan>
I was able to build it inside a chroot, but when trying to build webkit, it started complaining about cairo module missing or something
<phinxy>
sad_plan, why did you build inside a chroot and how did you set it up/
<sad_plan>
to test if there was an issue there aswell. it was more to be extra certain. I also tried a few versions back, but made no difference on my machine. I havnet really had any issues with it earlier though.
<sad_plan>
it was just a newly untared kiss-tarball. nothing special at all really
<phinxy>
aha.
<sad_plan>
testuser[m]: any experience with this? :p
<testuser[m]>
No
<testuser[m]>
Check log
<testuser[m]>
cmake log
<phinxy>
Does kisslinux use a standard root filesystem?
<testuser[m]>
phinxy: wdym
<testuser[m]>
Its just a tarball that u extract anywhere
<phinxy>
sabotagelinux gets rid off /usr/. it compiles packages in to /opt and then symlinks them over /
<testuser[m]>
no
<testuser[m]>
Only /usr is used with symlinks to /
<testuser[m]>
Like most distros
<testuser[m]>
but u can change it, repos are easy to fork
<Guest58>
It always bothered me that I had to change .com to .net with teddit and delete the www. bit with libreddit.

<acheam>
yeah that threads about where I was out
<acheam>
s/out/at/g
<noocsharp>
no-nonsense = i have to run crapware
<cem>
I mean, I have flatpak installed for crapware
<cem>
People who don't understand the basics of a UNIX environment shouldn't run distros like this and cry over the internet
<cem>
Especially on Reddit, I see people who really should be using Ubuntu (or a distro with similar usage) trying things like Gentoo, Arch, Void, whatever and complaining about how hard it is and asking the dumbest of questions
<cem>
and like gentoo is literally more complex than LFS, I don't get what people expect
