<aaabbb> why would "-bsf:v filter_units=remove_types=6" (removes the sei) on an h264 bitstream cause some videos with more than one gop to crash?
<aaabbb> ffplay gives plenty of errors like "Missing reference picture, default is 6" and "mmco: unref short failure", i don't see why removing the sei would cause any problem
<aaabbb> i'm looking at the output of trace_headers and nothing stands out
lexano has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<aaabbb> it seems that it only has problems when trying to seek
<aaabbb> trace_headers (and the stream copy to strip the sei) says "4 bytes left at end of AVCC header." so maybe it's some offset problem?

<Hikaru> the display is "paused" but it's still using 100% cpu resources and when i "unpause"

<kepstin> pause key never paused jobs (directly), it only pauses terminal output. that can indirectly pause the job eventually, since it'll hit a point after a while where it's trying to write to the terminal, but the buffer is full so it blocks.
<kepstin> use the job control mechanisms provided by your terminal or os.
<kepstin> for example, most linux shells supporting using "ctrl-z" to pause a running job, and then you can run "fg" to resume it.
<sonicrules1234> What ffmpeg command can I use to have it try to decode a file and see if it runs into any errors?
alexherbo2 has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<JEEB> sonicrules1234: `ffmpeg -v verbose -i INPUT -map 0 -f null pipe:`
<sonicrules1234> Thanks
<JEEB> if not all streams are decode'able by FFmpeg, you can do something like `-map 0:v` for all video streams, or `-map 0:a` for all audio streams for example
<sonicrules1234> Nah, it worked fine
<sonicrules1234> It was a ts file from a youtube livestream
<sonicrules1234> So h264/aac

<JEEB> MisterMinister: always prefer AVOptions to trying to set stuff in the URL since the URL stuff is really depending on the protocol module
JanC has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<JEEB> yea those are AVOptions so you can just set them as -pkt_size 1337 rist://...
<JEEB> overrun_nonfatal is often copypasta'd in UDP related things but I find that it just hides actual issues in your media decoding/encoding speed so I definitely do not recommend it
JanC has joined #ffmpeg
<JEEB> (also it's most often utilized with inputs where the UDP input might not be read quickly enough)
<JEEB> and that "not read quickly enough" generally is due to the rest of the processing being too slow. that's not something you want to just ignore by dropping data on the floor :P

<bcn_> aaabbb: thanks for opening my eyes to h265 it's the bees knees. compressed 1500MB of video to 80, and still pretty damn good quality. few blatant artifacts. it's detectibly not quite as sharp but its part to point a finger at any spot and say "THAT LOOKS BAD"

<ePirat> I wonder, can I do something like this with ffmpeg? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Barn-yuv.png
<ePirat> Y is easy but not sure how to go about the U/V planes
<ePirat> as extractplanes gives me gray8
<BtbN> can always export the image as raw yuv, and manually manipulate the raw file, and then re-import
Capstan has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
fossdd has quit [Ping timeout: 255 seconds]
<ePirat> BtbN, not sure what you mean by that?
<BtbN> quite literally what I said
<BtbN> export as raw yuv420p or something, set the planes you want to a fixed value, and re-import into an image format
<ePirat> ok but that defeats my question if I can do this with ffmpeg :D
<BtbN> well, it's standard unix tools and ffmpeg
