<DC-IRC> <Werner> Morning
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> Hey, sorry to join and start asking questions straight away but I'm having some issues building armbian for my orangepi 5+. I managed to get everything working with one of the stock images but some software I'd like to run requires a larger page size than the default. I tried using `CONFIG_ARM64_64K_PAGES=y` but the build failed, after which I tried changing `CONFIG_ARM64_PAGE_S <clipped message>
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> HIFT` to 16 instead of the default 12 to match the 64k page size but I'm still having no luck and am out of ideas.
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> Tried looking at the logs but I can't decipher much haha: https://paste.next.armbian.com/zonokawisu
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> anyone know what i'm missing?
<Hammdist> what is the software that requires a larger page size? seems like an unusual requirement
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> Ethereum node execution client. Supposedly a known issue for people attempting to run one on arm boards: https://github.com/paradigmxyz/reth/issues/2211
<DC-IRC> <Werner> Does unmodified building work?
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> yes
<DC-IRC> <Werner> Hm not sure if available for the plus model but you might want to try mainline. Lots of hw features are still missing but basic server tasks might work ok
<DC-IRC> <Werner> Try running compile.sh with EXPERT=yes switch. If lucky you get more options on branch selection. Also make sure your checkout is up to date (git pull)
<Hammdist> did you try following this doc? https://github.com/paradigmxyz/reth/blob/main/book/installation/build-for-arm-devices.md apparently it was working for the author
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> hmm I'll give these a try thanks
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> Yeah that doc was how I initially found out about page size being a potential cause
<Hammdist> I wonder if there is an option in linux to enable the 4th level page table instead

<DC-IRC> <Werner> Hm from the logs it seems like the gpu driver doesn't like your modifications. If not needed tried disabling gpu support? No clue though if this causes further issues on either side building or booting. I assume you simply ssh into your device...
<DC-IRC> <0xlvca> Ah yep good idea. Definitely don't need gpu so it's worth a shot
<Hammdist> https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v5.8/arm64/memory.html so apparently at least recent linux can do 4 levels of page tables and keep the standard page size of 4K

<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> Hello everyone. I did prepare my sd card for orangepi zero h2+ I do have 2 of them. tried on the first one I can see xradio module loading while on the second one once armbian boot I can see this
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> ```
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> 107.915677] Internal error: Oops: 5 [#1] SMP THUMB2

<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> ```
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> any idea if it might be that one of these orange pi is defective ?
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> I tried to swap is sd card between them and that the only way I was able to see this crash message
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> after that I can boot into armbian but once I try to run let say `sudo nano test.html` I cannot do ctrl +C
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> I tried to swap sd card between them and that the only way I was able to see this crash message
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> tried to use different sd card which same as the one recommended by Armbian and still I do face this stacktrace I don't know what is called cause I can see it during boot time 🙂
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> adding that I was able to cat into /etc/modules on the one which is not working. I can see it's empty

<juri_> are you sure the wireless modules are the same on both boards?
<juri_> ... and have you tried updating the OS while the SD card is in the 'working' one, then moving that SD card to the 'broken' one?
<juri_> that looks a lot like typical wifi card brokenness, which could be "the vendor used different WIFI chips on two boards", which is not uncommon.
crabbedhaloablut has quit []
<DC-IRC> <foutkassir> well it's the same wifi module which is xr819
<juri_> i would still try making sure you're running the latest kernel, before giving up on the hardware.
