<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> Guys can a Allwinner H3 OPI0 handle omv and OpenVPN at the same time?
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> or will it explode
<DC-IRC> <Werner> H3 is armhf, so 32bit only and therefore will be pretty busy with openvpn only...cpu wise at least. memory will probably insufficient for OMV anyways. Will most likely not explode but either overheats if not cooled properly, run very poorly or OOM killer saves the system from crashing.
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> so is it still usable?
<DC-IRC> <Werner> there is only one way to find out
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> ok il test it and tell u if it explodes
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> wait... if it explodes then il be dead
<DC-IRC> <Werner> If you planned to come back for trolling only I suggest to go elsewhere
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> but is it true that the opi0 has false high cpu tempartures
<DC-IRC> <Werner> That is why it is even more important to do proper cooling with a small heat sink at least and check temperature manually to prevent catastrophic failure.
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> ok
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> and what is proper cooling?
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> a heatsink?
<DC-IRC> <Werner> Cannot tell how impactful this is since my OPi0 is one of the early models (v1.1 with H2+ SoC) which does not have this issue.
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> oh ok
<DC-IRC> <Werner> cheap heat sink like this would be a good point to start: https://www.berrybase.de/en/4-teiliges-kuehlkoerper-set-fuer-raspberry-pi-4-silber?c=2396
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> oh ok
<DC-IRC> <Werner> I usually go a bit crazy in terms of cooling and get something like these: https://shop.alphacool.com/shop/passiv-kuehler/17426-alphacool-gpu-ram-copper-heatsinks-10x10mm-10-stk.?c=1423
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> i only have the white case for my opi0
<DC-IRC> <Werner> I don't have cases for any of my boards ^^
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> i mean it has airflow?
<DC-IRC> <Werner> for low power SoCs this might be sufficient as long as you don't enable fast clocks via overlay. capped to 1GHz the H3 should be fine
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> i have no idea what that means so il also never do that
<DC-IRC> <Werner> By default the OPi0 runs slightly above 1GHz at most. However up to 1.3GHz could be enabled via armbian-config but it is not recommended without having a heat sink since this will drastically increase heat.
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> ok
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> thx

<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> hello?
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> ok i have decided to build my own image
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> using @nicod_sbc 's video
<DC-IRC> <nicod_sbc> That's an old video. Now you can do the same on arm or on windows with wsl2. I've got a video about that.
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> oh
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> wow building an image is that easy?
<DC-IRC> <shivasiddhalt> wooow
<DC-IRC> <viraniac> Its easy because all the complexity is hidden behind armbian build scripts. If you wish to learn more about creating a Linux distribution from scratch, try building https://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/ a try

<DC-IRC> <efectn> But that's old
<DC-IRC> <efectn> I prefer playing with mainline
<DC-IRC> <efectn> And 6.2 is eol
alekksander has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<archetech> eol dont mean old for a kern
<archetech> esp for rock with slow dev
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> archetech: actually eol for a mainline kernel not in a distro does mean old.. in a very bad way... no security support especially
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> It is the worst possible kernel you could run
<archetech> you and your oppositional disorder flaring up
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> EOL no LTS support should be avoided
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> No.. its called spending time in the real world in business and having to deal with what happens when people don't..
<archetech> bs find a rock5 issue between 6.2 and 6.4
<archetech> thats so called sec issue

<DC-IRC> <jackn01> Can an image in the "Other supported variants" sction, have a different password ?
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Whats the url for the image?
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> its not root:1234
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> are you logging in from the console or remotely?
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> both
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> just a sec let me grab it and try
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> tryed both
<Herc> Channels recent armbian images ask you to set your own password on first boot IIRC
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> its quite a job...
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> oh yeah good point
<Herc> s/channels//
<ArmbianHelper> Error: Search not found in the last 1000 IRC messages on this network.
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> its the first login
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> @jackn01 if its bringing you to a graphical login you need to alt-f1 and finish the user setup I think
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> no, im in the console
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> did it not ask you to set up new passwords?
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> no, it aways sayd wrong password
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> no, it always sayd wrong password
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> you need to wait for the auto login to finish first
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> don't try to login
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> ok i have restarted after the first boot
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> it takes a few minutes depending on hardware/setup
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> on the second start should it autologin ?
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Unless things have changed again... yes
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> (they did some changes recently so I won't gurantee it)
<Herc> if you created a "normal" gui user it still asks for the "normal" user & password
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> iwhen i used the cli image, i ssh , and i logged in and the password was ok
<DC-IRC> <c0rnelius77> last I checked it doesn't autologin if the first attempt fails. after that it is root:1234 and then it asks you to create a reg user and blah blah
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> @c0rnelius77 yeah I thought that only happened if it failed... so the normal user should be working...
<Herc> autologin is not set by default
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Herc: hmm it was on some of my images (that could be though due to the sbc)
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> i havent created a user cos i never logged in
<Herc> tenkawa, you never installed a desttop image I assume ;)
<Herc> desktop*
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Herc: actually I did for risc-v
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> ok ill use the cli image
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Herc: but these were all still in alpha stages
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> Im happy that u removed the password complexity thing!
<Herc> several bookworm xfce installations (odroidc2) went smoothly here (half a year ago)
<Herc> pretty straight forward/logical IMHO
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> I'm working on a hybrid Debian build on a Risc-V box at the moment...
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> They sent it out with Yocto... ugh
<Herc> heh
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Oh fun... big storm approaching...
<Herc> ouch
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Herc: I'm use to it... happened all the time growing up
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> does the cli images has the video output of the console ?
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> Giving me one bad migraine though (I get very bad headaches from pressure shifts like weather ettc)
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> do the cli images have the video output of the console ?
<Herc> sure, but ssh should also work out of the box
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> u r from japan i guess
<DC-IRC> <jackn01> tenkawa
<Herc> at least it did for me via HDMI connection
<DC-IRC> <tenkawa42> No.. Just my nickname I picked up in college and online
