<Hammdist>
I've noticed that not on every boot, but sometimes there is a conflict between ssh.service and ssh.socket and neither starts up properly and it's not possible to ssh in. is it a good idea to mask ssh.service?
<Hammdist>
or rather, mask ssh.socket perhaps

<shivasiddhalt> Hey guys
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> How do I check logs?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Or where should I upload it?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Guys pls reply cuz I have no idea what timezone u are in
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Somebody
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ???
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Come on
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Nobody?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> There are more than 200 people in this server and nobody will reply
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Anybody?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Anyone
<sally>
shivasiddhalt, "logs" usually store in /var/log/
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Finally someone
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Umm ok but what do I do with the logs?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Helo
<sally>
What kind of files?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> There are folders log files and files
<sally>
What do you want to accomplish?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Do I upload the files anywhere?
<sally>
Which files?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> I don't get what ur trying to say
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Check where my ssh fails?
<sally>
What kind of files? and why you want to upload them?
<sally>
I have no idea
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> My ssh won't work so how can I check the logs and find the root cause?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Umm anybody there?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Well then I guess I'm gonna install every bullseye image and see which one works
<sally>
Do you want to access through ssh?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> yes cuz i have no other option
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> i mean what else could i do
<sally>
shivasiddhalt, So, you don't connect monitor with your device?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> i cant
<sally>
Okay, you want to know the IP address, you can do that via Router UI,
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> i do know the ip but it refuses to connect
<sally>
What is the message?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Connection Timed Out
<sally>
What it says when you try to connect?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Connection Timed Out
<sally>
Have you connected to it before?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> Yes
<sally>
Have you tried restart the device?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> yes alot of times
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> but it still wouldnt work
<sally>
Have you change the ssh config?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> how
<sally>
Or firewall?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> i havent changed anything like that
<sally>
Oh,
<sally>
I have no idea how you can solve that.
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> and i used to use older armbian bullseye versions
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> so im gonna try every bullseye image
<sally>
Have you tried connect it via mobile or other computer?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> yes
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> anysways my first image : Armbian_21.02.1_Orangepizero_bullseye_current_5.10.12
<sally>
It might be, 'sshd' is inactive, or firewall is blocking it for some reason.
<sally>
I am sorry for the trouble you have.
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> yeah but if firewall was blocked then i would have never connected to it?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ok i have flashed the image onto my sd
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> *insterts it into opi0*
<sally>
Your right, but maybe, after some update, it have change
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> yeah but the strange thing was after i connected to opi0 it prompted me to update to the latest version. and after the update it still woked. but if i downloaded the latest image it wouldnt work
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ok i think its now booted so let me try to connect
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> and it doesnt work
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> so imma wait more
<sally>
Do you connect through wifi or ethernet?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ethernet
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ok it still doesnt work but im gonna wait
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> how much time does it take for first boot?
<sally>
shivasiddhalt, I have no idea, I don't have Orange Pi Zero.
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> oh ok
<archetech>
systemcxtl status ssh
<archetech>
systemctl status ssh
<archetech>
tells ya why its broke
<archetech>
and/or journalctl -b or -xe
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> hewo
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> is buster debian?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ?

<viraniac> @shivasiddhalt Why don't you just stick to the latest release and upload your logs from var/log directory to forum as I suggested yesterday?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> also did you try to ping your board to see if its actually reachable on the ip you thing is assigned to it?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> also did you try to ping your board to see if its actually reachable on the ip you think is assigned to it?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> this is all i could upload
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> one file failed
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> did u find anything
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> @viraniac u there?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ok im being impatient sry
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> None of those files are going to be helpful
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> then what do u need
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> I wonder why now you don;t have messages file like you had yesterday in your screenshot
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> cuz its a diffirent image
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> makes sense?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> no, messages, dmesg and syslog are standard linux logs. If they are not present, it can probably mean you never booted from that sd card
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> hmmm
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> so it never booted
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> cuz the green light was on and the orange light was flickering?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> You need to get a serial uart adapter. We can't help you without knowing whats going on in realtime
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> You are from India, right?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> yes?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> How do u know that?
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> you can buy one from robu.in. Its not that costly
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> And i live in the Netherlands
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Your name in google drive
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> LOOL
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> k
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> Ah. Amazon then 🙂
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> okay
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> so then my tempoary soloution would be debian
<DC-IRC>
<viraniac> yeah, whatever you can get to work, use the same
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ok
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> then how do i make a user in debian?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> i know its useradd but then i get a bunch of options
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> unlike armbian which would immediatly create a user?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> should i select system user?
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> it was my first time using IRC

<shivasiddhalt> just realised that the opi0 official debian image is debian 9
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> so old
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> The only way go make some money with selling cheap SBCs: do not put any effort into software development and updates. Because that eats up profit.
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> lol
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> now im upgrading it to buster
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> I wasnt joking
<DC-IRC>
<shivasiddhalt> ik
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> @werner before that do you remember those basicly x86 tablets that had the same philosophy with the celeron or lower cpus and terrible gpus
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> @werner before that do you remember those basic x86 tablets that had the same philosophy with the celeron or lower cpus and terrible gpus
<DC-IRC>
<Werner> Thankfully no, I don't remember that 😄
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Oh those things were terrible
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I think I still have one in a drawer
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Worse than things like the Nokia N800 even
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Worse than things like the Nokia N800 even (which I also still have )

tenkawa42: I have a couple of them. But lately just use n900 and n9
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> sunshavi: I had like 4-5 of them about 10 years ago before the Apple I devices came into popularity... I tried getting use to Maemo and other UI's but they were just so unrefined...
<sunshavi>
tenkawa42: YMMV. But good to know what is ur case
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> Someone actually put a smaller RK Soc in a PBP frame... I can't remember where I saw it though
<sevan>
I currently have an MNT Reform which is really nice (not because it's arm though)
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> sevan: those cpus are going to be way too expensive
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I was just reading what they want to target using in one of those nxp units... the power arch multi core cpus will never be cost efficient for consumers
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> (They were tough enough for businesses)
<DC-IRC>
<tenkawa42> I hope they will.. but I am highly doubtful
