<Armbian-Discord> <SirRFI> I wonder: Would Wayland desktop (Sway WM) work on no longer supported ARM devices, like ASUS Tinkerboard? Armbian supports this device
maknho has joined #armbian
<IgorPec> SirRFI: its on you to try
<IgorPec> start with CLI image and build desktop on it
<Armbian-Discord> <SirRFI> I don't have access to the device to try it myself now. First and foremost I need to learn how to install SwayWM on non-GUI distribution. Actually I downloaded armbian, but then realised it's preinstalled, so no idea if I can use that in Virtual Machine for testing.
<IgorPec> you can use virtual machine and you can also use debian or ubuntu base for testing and then transfer to armbian in final phase for tweaking and enabling 3d drivers
<IgorPec> which are needed for this to function
<steev> or just install the sway package
<Armbian-Discord> <SirRFI> IgorPec I can? I don't have the image anymore, but it seems to be .img extension - my VMWare on Windows didn't see it, in difference to .iso. Unless I have too old VMWare to begin with
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> with vmware certainly not
<Armbian-Discord> <IgorPec> brb, lunch time
<Armbian-Discord> <SirRFI> steev Do you happen to have instructions for that? Some time ago I gave it a quick try with Arch Wiki's, but I probably missed something along the way. I am not familiar with installing DEs or whatever from nothing
<steev> "sudo apt install sway" ?
<Armbian-Discord> <SirRFI> I think I tried that on Ubuntu Server, without success. On Armbian Focal I didn't try due to the above - VMWare
<steev> what do you mean "without success" - it installs sway, and then you just run "sway" to start it. but sway is not a DE, so you have to do all the configuration yourself
<steev> as for the vmware stuff... well yes, the img file is for an sdcard, it is not an iso that you would use to install in a virtualmachine like vmware
<Armbian-Discord> <SirRFI> Sorry, I don't remember details of what I tried exactly with Sway. Yes, I am aware that img is for SD Cards, which is why I failed to run Armbian, before trying it out on actual device.
<Armbian-Discord> <SirRFI> Actually, do I even need Sway, i3wm or whatever if my goal was to display only one app on full screen, like browser or mpv?

<Armbian-Discord> <𝖊𝖔𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖑𝖊𝖘> I'm wondering if anyone can lend some insight -- I am trying to get anydesk installed and running on my bPi M2 Plus. I got Armbian installed (Debian 10 / buster). When I go to open Anydesk via terminal, I get anydesk: error while loading shared libraries: libbcm_host.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I also notice that there is no /opt/vc directory
<Armbian-Discord> (not sure if that's correct)

<[TheBug]> Sorry we don't give software support here, your best bet it Google search which is what any of us would have to do
<[TheBug]> s/it/is a
<[TheBug]> that should always be teh first thing you do instead of aimlessly asaking questions in irc, since most of the time the answer is with-in the first few results
<[TheBug]> that one in fact seems to be exactly that way as the first few links returned seem to have information on that issu
<[TheBug]> e
<juri_> I support software... my own. :P
<[TheBug]> well if you need more support than that get a bra with an underwire ;p
<Armbian-Discord> <𝖊𝖔𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖑𝖊𝖘> @TheBug I've been trying what i've searched for, and I'm not sure if it's a limitation of armbian or anydesk itself, so to speak. As in, will it ever work. None of the fixes I've come across have been successful at all, which is why I was asking.
<[TheBug]> Are you sure anydesk even works on Arm?
<[TheBug]> I mean most of us probably don't use Anydesk and this channel isn't anydesk support either so not really the place to ask
<[TheBug]> again, most of us if we are to help you would just have to search your issue in google and spend the same time you should be spending researching
<Armbian-Discord> <𝖊𝖔𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖑𝖊𝖘> They have a repository that shows armhf versions (https://download.anydesk.com/rpi/) -- if I may back up, this may potentially provide some clarity on why it may not be working (i'm still getting my feet wet with linux .. give me windows issues and I'm 100% there) - When I was working with raspbian the other month running into similar issues, I came across this on their site: "Only
<Armbian-Discord> Raspbian/Raspberry Pi OS (32 bit) are supported. Raspberry Pi OS 11 "Bullseye" is not yet supported." --- I'm not sure how that correlates to what I'm trying to run with armbian instead.
<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> Not a clue unfortunately
<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> Too many variables
<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> Raspberry OS is it's own almost Debian thing, Anydesk I've never heard of, and I don't know of anyone who uses it
<Armbian-Discord> <𝖊𝖔𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖑𝖊𝖘> so in terms of when i'm looking for sofware compatibility, am I looking for armhf, debian, something else?
peterm6881 has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<juri_> Yes. :)
<[TheBug]> armhf is generally 32bit while a lot of new images on things are 64bit, so it is likely based on what is there that it only supports 32bit libraries and may not work under 64bit.
<[TheBug]> thats what I take away from that note you left there about it working with RPi
<juri_> hmm. one of my pro boards has a tendancy to randomly power off.
