* stipa
has log filling zram problems too
<stipa>
dpkg: cannot write to log file '/var/log/dpkg.log': No space left on device
<lanefu>
Stipa make sure the cron is executing correctly
<lanefu>
Then the interval can be changed
<lanefu>
Do you have a noisey log somewhere
<stipa>
it shouldn't be, i'll check ,Linux orangepilite2 5.15.1-sunxi64 #trunk.53
CrypticSquared has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]

<lanefu>
Also could be noise in journald and not log file
<lanefu>
If you ping me tonight or tomorrow I can help. I've seen a few edge cases were log rotation isn't working properly reported but just haven't been able to look or even collect data
<stipa>
i also have some sd card errors or something, i guess it has dead cells
<stipa>
and that log errors
<stipa>
mmc0: Card stuck being busy!
<stipa>
it crashed wifi repeater but os keept on going
<stipa>
and update error
<stipa>
E: Write error - ~LZMAFILE (28: No space left on device)
<stipa>
there's space, it's only that zram is filled
<stipa>
i'll try to find log that's big
<IgorPec>
~LZMAFILE (28: No space left on device) was reported on forum. no idea what is that
<stipa>
hmm
Proxysna_ has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<stipa>
two things are filling the zram ./atop & ./sysstat
<stipa>
powertop i guess
<stipa>
i'll try without it
c0rnelius has quit [Quit: WeeChat 3.0]
<stipa>
yeah, no powertop is running
<stipa>
it runned the boot before
<stipa>
but that doesn't explain why logs are filled, they should have been wiped on the reboot
c0rnelius has joined #armbian
<lanefu>
Look at the logrotate script
<stipa>
yeah, dang, it's full on reboot
<stipa>
lanefu: i'll check logrotate
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Ramlog rotate is separate from logrotate
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Separate cron seperate tool
archetyp has joined #armbian
<stipa>
k
<stipa>
so, what
<stipa>
what should i look for, ram logrotate or logrotate ?
<stipa>
i can for start increase SIZE to more in /etc/default/armbian-ramlog
<stipa>
i've increased to zram to 350 MB and now 49MB of it is used on reboot
<stipa>
400MB *
* ^tinyweasel^
tempts lanefu with extremely cheap idlers
<stipa>
400MB *
<^tinyweasel^>
ARM idlers, too, of course
<^tinyweasel^>
anyway, hope to see if things are fun tomorrow, I guess
<stipa>
enoguh hacking for today

<arianaglande> @lanefu wait WHAT
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> i just compiled the armbian image
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> 1 hour later... it had dtb files
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> not the script.bin
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> 😩

<arianaglande> anyone knows how to get it to build it with the script.bin version?
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> cant figure out how to do it

<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> If i custom compiled the latest kernel, how do i exclude out the updates? I have 5.15.4 (21.11.0-trunk) and it wants me to update to a different build of that version (21.11.0-trunk.67). Had to compile my own as I needed the binder and ashmem linux drivers for Waydroid/
<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> Also if I update it to the next Ubuntu version, will it break anything?
<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> ie for Hirsute to Impish
<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> I'm on a Rock Pi 4b
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> @IgorPec do you have any idea of how to compile the kernel to have the script.bin instead of dtb files?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> 8 years ago i would have
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> dro3m: can't say for ubuntu upgrades but usually this is safe, since kernel and boot loader is separate from upgrade
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> this legacy kernel is obsolete. We stayed on them the longest, but at one point we had to let it go. It is expensive to deal with this
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> There is code in the build system, but you are 100% on your own to get it working. Which means you could spent weeks on it: https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/v19.08
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> the only reason i want the script.bin to be there
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> is because if i replace it with the android one, the tablet screen works
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> usually with armbian the tablet screen is black
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> there is nothing I can help to get this working
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> and outputs only over the hdmi port
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> uh rip
archetech has joined #armbian
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> well thanks anyways i guess :)
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i would very much like that you would understand what you are asking for
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> but i know that i can't expect that. i can't find words how to explain this without hurting the feelings or / and spending too much time. Forget about this or do exclusively without involving anyone. If you need to spent thousands to save a few it does't wort out. When that happens, we say to stop supporting. Costs doesn't justify benefits. Time is limited.

<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> it makes sense actually
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> i’m wasting a lot of time on these tablets
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> they’re just not worth it
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> like... a damn A10 inside of them
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> a10 is too slow to be useful for anything. even for some smarthome monitor is just too slow
<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> I ended up changing the version number in the control file I can upgrade ubuntu

<dro3m> Dumb question, tried to find it on the internet but no luck or I'm blind but, how do I add a kernel parameter?
<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> I know how to do it in GRUB but I've never used UBoot so.

<c0rnelius>
I would think after all these years you'd just be using extlinux.conf. It does support overlays now.
<c0rnelius>
You can even create a menu and such like grub. But not as fancy.
