Pretty sure error -2 means the firmware is actually missing.
<lanefu>
Good point
<lanefu>
Look in GitHub.com/armbian/firmware and see if it's in our collection

<arianaglande> btw how do i make armbian install the os inside the internal flash of the tablet?

<lanefu>
Honestly DDing is probably safest.
<lanefu>
Also /usr/sbin/nand-sata-install
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> Oh nice :)
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> can you explain me that tho
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> On Allwinner devices after switching to boot from NAND or eMMC clearing the boot loader signature on the SD card is recommended: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/mmcblkN bs=1024 seek=8 count=1 (replace /dev/mmcblkN with the correct device node – in case you run this directly after nand-sata-install without a reboot in between then it’s /dev/mmcblk0). When booting from eMMC to get SD cards auto-detected on Allwinner
<Armbian-Discord>
legacy images please consider changing mmc0‘s sdc_detmode from 3 to 1 in the board’s fex file (see here for details).
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Boot precedence always goes to sdcard on allwinner devices
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> So if you leave one in the slot for storage purposes it can. Stop you from booting. But also I don't understand the second half lol
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> Also you have the best nick
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> 😂😂
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> well... i want it to be like that so no problem 😁
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> apparently i can ignore that part
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> also is it possible to display something on the tablet’s screen?
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> for now the tablet’s display doesnt even backlight and only outputs via hdmi
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> @lanefu wait... i ran nand-sata-install but it just asked me if i wanted to update the bootloader
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> it didnt copy the fs

<Tonymac32> good call, I'm not getting one since I don't have any use for yet another SBC, unless I want to take my actual server offline to save power
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> (plex transcoding should work on that little guy for a stream or two I would assume)
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> i still acn't get clear confirmation on whether or not they support intel Quick Sync
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> i've got 2, so i'll get one online and let you investigate
<Armbian-Discord>
<lanefu> at an underdetermined time in the future

They were selling them for $40 on amazon that came with the power attachment and camera. Not sure if they still are? I bought one a whiles back I use as a NAS/Deluge server.
<c0rnelius>
If you plan to hook any USB stuff to it you'll def need a usb powered hub.
<lanefu>
likebest thing about it you can tell people you have a robot heart

<Tonymac32> why would I get that when I've got my eye on this Rock3 B Pico-ITX board (apologize if names are incorrect in some respect)
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> lol I was thinking of ordering one of those handhelds and some other stuff from Hardkernel, but, uh, I had a $70 shopping cart and an $85 shipping estimate 😄

I actually have 2 atompis in VESA mounted setups on back of monitors, one with windows on it and used by my niece for doing school and other I have on my desk as a back-up linux workstation
<[TheBug]>
they are not too bad for light work
<lanefu>
I used 1 as a desktop with mate for a while
<lanefu>
I tried and tried but I couldn't outsmart the 2gig of RAM
* archetech
almost bought that $40 paper weight
<[TheBug]>
yeah memory is biggest downfall on that platform in general, with tablets included
<[TheBug]>
most were only manufactured with 2GB, there are a few 4 GB implementations out there, I think such as RockPi X but not as many as 2GB
<stipa>
seems like ARM workstation won't be possible without fans
<stipa>
thy're bigger and bigger as power of calculations go up
<stipa>
goes*
<lanefu>
Yeah was like $620 after tax and shipping
<lanefu>
I wish it had displayport instead of HDMI
<lanefu>
I'm sure I'm a minority on that front
<stipa>
yeah, more video outs wouldn't hurt anyone
<stipa>
rx550 is capable of three
<lanefu>
I think they were trying to mange costs
<stipa>
yeah, the cpu is probably like 90% of the price
<stipa>
but additional two ports wouldn't break a bank
<stipa>
running linux with one monitor is just a joke
<stipa>
like, linux workstation
<[TheBug]>
yeah that was my comment on it -- for a usable workstation for me it needs at least dual output -- right now as sad as I am to admit, the RPi 4 is doing that job 'decently'
<[TheBug]>
though I use it more as a 'thin terminal'
<lanefu>
Yeah they're not selling it as a "workstation"
<stipa>
yeah, they're selling it as ""
<stipa>
"Compact"
<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> how long does it normally take to compile the kernel on a rock pi 4b?

<[TheBug]>
Longer than you want and less time than you expect.
<[TheBug]>
s/and/but
<ArmbianHelper>
[TheBug] meant to say: Longer than you want but less time than you expect.
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> 1 or 2 hrs
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> Not more than that
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> Maybe less, depending on clock speeds
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> guys where can i find the script.bin file?
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> it's not inside the boot folder
<[TheBug]>
haha see
<[TheBug]>
you said the same thing in a more complicated way
<[TheBug]>
lol
<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> ah that’s not to bad actually
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> Use all cores
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> Or just two if you are worried about temps
<[TheBug]>
or put a fan on it!
<[TheBug]>
lol
<[TheBug]>
heatsink +fan works awesome on rk3399
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> Yes, I think the best one is the one for the rockpro64
<[TheBug]>
can run it at full clocks at <45c
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> Thst one works amazingly
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> I use 2.21/1.8 on the rockpro64
<[TheBug]>
yeah I use 30mmx30mm 5v fan and heatsink
<[TheBug]>
on RockPI 4c
<[TheBug]>
I do use the provided heatsink w/ fan from pine though for RockPro64
<[TheBug]>
and I like it a lot as well
alekksander has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> I just set it to spinn all time but at very slow rpms
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> It doesnt make any sound, and works perfectly
<[TheBug]>
yeah mine are in ATX cases so I did pretty much the same
<[TheBug]>
cause there are many case fans around it
<[TheBug]>
just want enough to make sure it has some direct flow
<[TheBug]>
Have on running 10x3TB raid5
<[TheBug]>
other running 6x2TB raid5
<[TheBug]>
they are beasts
<Armbian-Discord>
<dro3m> i am, i also have the ecopi pro case so temps should be fine
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> It probably take just 1 hr
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> A bit more or less then
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> I compiled kernels on rpi3
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> is it possible to get legacy versions for the a10 soc?
<Armbian-Discord>
<NeonFetch> I conpiled 0AD on rpi3
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> on armbian website i can only find mainline
<Armbian-Discord>
<arianaglande> tho script.bin is only on legacy versions
