<diejuse> I would like to install Maemo Leste natively on one of my old Android phones, on the Xperia Mini Pro. Would it be possible?
<Wizzup> diejuse: how well is it supported by mainline linux?
<diejuse> Wizzup: I don't know. Tell me how can I find out.
<diejuse> I think someone was able to install an old version of Ubuntu Phone and another of Salifish OS.
<Wizzup> I am googling for 'mainline linux Xperia Mini Pro'
<Wizzup> looks like someone from postmarketos reports that mainline works
<Wizzup> it's an adreno so I suspect 3d would work
<diejuse> yes, it is adreno
<Wizzup> disregard that xda-developers link, it's for a different phone
<uvos> what that pmos link dosent show any mainline work
<diejuse> yes, that link is for xperia aqua
<Wizzup> does it have a microsd card slot?
<diejuse> yes, it has microsd
<Wizzup> uvos: you're right, I got confused
<uvos> also MSM8255 has no platform support in the mainline kernel
<Wizzup> wow that's a low res screen btw
<uvos> see QCOM kconfig
<uvos> so this would be HARD with a captial H to support
<uvos> unless you can find platform code elswehere
<uvos> like a ongoing project to upstream
<Wizzup> yeah
<Wizzup> diejuse: so I suppose you could try to build the kernel as mentioned in the wiki page, and then load maemo leste on sd card and boot it, see what works and what doesn't, but it's possible 3d doesn't work, and also would require a lot of kernel work to make it mainline linux
<uvos> but leste on vendor kernel + hybris for 3d is an option
<Wizzup> I have no experience with that^
<Wizzup> but I know someone did it for some other device
<parazyd> vendor/hybris is not something we would maintain though.
<diejuse> Wizzup: From what I see, I don't think I will be able to do it. But I'll read about it.
<Wizzup> diejuse: yeah it sounds like a lot of work
<Wizzup> parazyd: sure, but nothing is stopping /someone/ from doing it
<parazyd> Of course. pmos is usually a good resource to start from.
<diejuse> I would love everything was as simple as installing a Linux distro on your computer.
<diejuse> hehe
<parazyd> Us too :D
<uvos> i just saw mainline has support for MSM8960
<uvos> maybe i should try on xt897
<uvos> afaik the final and most powerfull qwerty slider android phone
<uvos> except the fxtec ofc
<Wizzup> uvos: do you have it?
<uvos> yeah but its in bad shape
venji10[m] has joined #maemo-leste
<parazyd> Not bad
<diejuse> i tried to buy that phone a few years ago but i had no luck
<uvos> yeah xt897 are exceedingly rare
<uvos> and everyone wanted one :P

<Danct12> good afternoon everyone

<buZz> i'd love if anyone could confirm my BT Headset howto to function :P
<buZz> i'm quite sure i did nothing else to get it up
<buZz> but could be wrong
<parazyd> Should it work with any BT headphones?
cockroach has joined #maemo-leste
<uvos> parazyd: bluetooth is not allways fully backwards compatable
<uvos> ie bt single / dual mode
<uvos> idk what version d4 supports
<uvos> id suspect 3.0
<uvos> so some swanky new bt headset might not work
<uvos> buZz: can you try bt call audio?
<uvos> buZz: it should work & just need a ucm profile
<uvos> you should be able to set it up with alsa only
<buZz> uvos: alas, i have no simcard :)
<uvos> ok
<buZz> this bt headset does have a mic too
<buZz> and the documentation i found for using that, all pointed to ofone
<uvos> right but mapphones have a special path
<buZz> that was funny :)
<uvos> from the wl chip to cpcap and then to the modem
<buZz> mhm
<uvos> so that the cpu can be off in a bt call
<buZz> nice
<uvos> no one has ever tested this path
<buZz> hehe, i'll look into getting a sim for it to test

<uvos> looks like my xt897 wont boot or charge anymore :(
<Wizzup> :(
<Danct12> rip
<Danct12> hmm, what's the difference between xt894 and xt897?
<uvos> xt897 is a totaly different phone
<uvos> except the keyboard
<uvos> its newer and has a diferent architecture entierly
<uvos> ie. is not a mapphone
<Danct12> i looked it up, xt897 doesn't have a sim slot
<uvos> yeah sorta
<uvos> it has a itneral sim
<uvos> you can swap
inky has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<Danct12> o
<uvos> its solderd to the board
<uvos> but everything is inplace to solder a holder in
<uvos> even the plastic parts are there more or less
<Danct12> so essentially it's just your standard sim card, but they hid it inside the internals
<uvos> yeah
<uvos> they just remove the holder and solderd a card there
<Danct12> i guess xt894 is still a better choice then
<uvos> (note i never did this it was from freind and is still stock)
<uvos> xt894 also has mainline kernel support ;)
<uvos> thats the (mutch) bigger advantage
<Danct12> maybe i should try to ask a friend in the US to buy the xt894 and second hand it to me

<dreamer> hmm, I just updated my droid4 (nearly 600 packages). on the wiki it says that kernel `5.11.0` is used, but I see `5.10.30` being used
<parazyd> 5.11 is still in -devel.
<dreamer> check
* dreamer planning to look at that wiki-metadata thing, maybe we can mention both
<dreamer> hmm, so my droid4 doesn't show the pulse-sink, probably some pulse package missing?
* dreamer knows nothing about pulse
<buZz> the pulse link will only appear once its connected through blueman
diejuse has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<Wizzup> Danct12: if you plan to do kernel or leste devel I could maybe send one from the EU, but idk about the shipping
<Wizzup> dreamer: sounds good @ wiki metadadata/both
<uvos> id i think that might be too mutch
<uvos> table should reflect stable imo
<Wizzup> mhm
<dreamer> buZz: https://bpa.st/KYPQ
<dreamer> Wizzup: yeah I need to look into this new mw extention that's already installed. will post when there's something coming ;)
<Wizzup> dreamer: I think it should automagically show up in pactl or so
<Wizzup> dreamer: yeah please reach out if you have any questions or want to pick my brain on it or something
<dreamer> it's supposed to be inside `blueman-manager` menu
<dreamer> what buZz showed me on his droid4
<buZz> line 62 , i have : load-module module-bluetooth-policy auto_switch=2
<buZz> not sure if thats the only difference :P
<dreamer> works!
<dreamer> added that ^ and `/etc/init.d/pulseaudio restart`
<dreamer> then `blueman-manager > trust > pair > audio sink`
<dreamer> under `Option to automatically switch bluetooth profile to HSP more often`
<parazyd> Good stuff
<parazyd> We'll need some layer for BT integration
<Wizzup> fremantle had apis for it
<parazyd> Hopefully generic, as the GPS stack also has the ability to pair with BT devices.
<Wizzup> we need the other PA stuff first
<parazyd> This is just stubbed in location-control now.

<uvos> we did the profiles via alsa

<Wizzup> this is more detailed i think
<parazyd> This is the entire user manual it seems, yes.
<parazyd> Kinda overkill
<Wizzup> this is also useful for leste users though :)
