<uvos> mighty17[m]: no those patches have no change of inclusion in the mainline kernel as is so are not of "sufficant quality"
<uvos> mighty17[m]: for instance you need to split "Added espresso" into patch with the mms114 changes and a patch with the dtsi and a patch with the defconfig changes
<mighty17[m]> <uvos "mighty17: no those patches have "> wdym, i added dts,twl6032 (which is indeed wip) and mms136 (https://lore.kernel.org/linux-input/YHFARSiYaaz%2FgaHE@google.com/T/)
<mighty17[m]> what changed do you suggest?
<uvos> right that patch is fine
<uvos> but the ones on the tree are not
<mighty17[m]> <uvos "mighty17: for instance you need "> for the patches yes, each one will have a seperate .patch file, i thought u meant the code quality
<uvos> well there is some issues there too
<uvos> like you dts contains way to long lines
<mighty17[m]> those are comments?
<uvos> yeah comments count
<uvos> dont exceed 110 lines
<uvos> use the check_patch script
<uvos> this is not ok
<uvos> also please add whatever extra modules you device needs to omap2_defconfig
<uvos> instead of addin a new one
<uvos> so we need
<mighty17[m]> <uvos "shunt-resistor-micro-ohms = <240"> that will get removed anyways, light sensor isnt working somehow
<uvos> a branch with the: Input: mms114 - Support MMS136 patch as applied to the mainline tree backported to 5.11, a patch that adds the dts and a patch that adds the needed modules to omap2_defconfig
<uvos> and $subject, passing check_patch script and long form description for all of them
<mighty17[m]> i can get a mms136 patch as well, that way the tree is clean
<mighty17[m]> also my defconfig is loosely based on omap2plus so that should be easy
<uvos> yeah just diff it and add whatever you added as =m to the omap2plus one
<mighty17[m]> okay!
<uvos> we need to be able to build a signle kernel with support for all our devices, ie we need it in one defconfig
diejuse has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<uvos> great work btw :)

<diejuse> any way to keep portrait mode both when I enter and when I exit the apps? I am testing MLeste on a blackberry and when I put a screen resolution with width higher than width it crashes.
<diejuse> *width higher than height
<diejuse> *height higher than width, pardon
<uvos> by brain also crashes wen you try usign a screen resolution with width higher than width
<freemangordon> uvos: Wizzup: I think I have a reliable way of repro the "no saved connections available" bug in the VM, which I think is the same as "never succeeds until you close dialog and start over"
<freemangordon> when connecting from easy-wlan dialog, just enter wrong ssid of a hidden AP, so it will fail (assuming the patch ^^^), Then try to connect to some saved connection from the same dialog: "no saved..."
<uvos> btw Wizzup freemangordon: https://github.com/libsdl-org/sdl12-compat <-- this has the potential to solve our sdl1.2 problems
<uvos> no more grabs with that
<mighty17[m]> <uvos "we need to be able to build a si"> wont the kernel get too big, or are we just gonna use =m?
<uvos> mighty17[m]: =m ofc
<diejuse> uvos: my only solution is to put an almost square resolution with a pixel more width than height. On the Titan mobile it is perfect but on other mobiles it is not suitable.
<mighty17[m]> that'll need quite some work then on my end
<uvos> diejuse: you can make it stay portrait by chainging /usr/share/hildon-desktop/trainsition.ini
<uvos> i dont recall what the flag is called exacly
<mighty17[m]> why isnt PREEMPT enabled in omap2plus, thats necessary for powervr afaik
<uvos> but its something like force protraitable
<uvos> mighty17[m]: because the pvr branch changes that ofc
<mighty17[m]> so should i include it in my patch or nor
<mighty17[m]> not*
<uvos> no
<uvos> your patches must be appropriate for mainline kernel
<mighty17[m]> cool thanks :D
<uvos> any pvr stuff at all or support changes for pvr are not welcome
<mighty17[m]> `CONFIG_CMDLINE="root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootwait console=ttyO2,115200"` will need to be changed ig this is for uart in omap2plus
<uvos> hmm ok
<uvos> you have no way of not forcing the cmdline
<uvos> ?
<diejuse> uvos: I'm going to try it
<uvos> stting CONFIG_CMDLINE if ofc not acceptable in the common kernel
<mighty17[m]> what other way?
<mighty17[m]> i used to use `CONFIG_CMDLINE="console=tty0 ignore_loglevel" `
<uvos> right you set the cmdline in kconfig
<uvos> thats a problem since it would break the other devices
<uvos> the other devices get cmdline from the bootloader
<uvos> i gues this might be a sticking point
<uvos> i assume your bootloader dosent let you change the cmdline...
<mighty17[m]> i guess so
<mighty17[m]> been a while since i tried something non pmOS
<uvos> well i gues you could have a initramfs that mounts root
<uvos> and otherwise no cmdline
<Wizzup> freemangordon: that sounds like the same bug yeah
<uvos> not ideal
<uvos> or you could boot kexecboot first
<Wizzup> uvos: that looks great @ libsdl12-compat
<uvos> and then have a bootloader that allows you to change cmdline (and multiboot)
<mighty17[m]> <uvos "or you could boot kexecboot firs"> i dont think i have kexecboot
<uvos> mighty17[m]: right
<uvos> mighty17[m]: i gues this would be easiest
<mighty17[m]> yes
<uvos> and then you can have boot pmos and leste installed ;)
<uvos> s/boot/
<Wizzup> diejuse: regarding portrait mode when entering and exiting apps, I am not sure at the moment, what exactly are you seeing?
<Wizzup> ah looks like uvos answered
<Wizzup> uvos: btw, does BP also crash for you when you click 'practice'
<uvos> mighty17[m]: you could flash that image to sdcard or some partiton on the device that it dosent need
<mighty17[m]> <uvos "and then you can have boot pmos "> i mean yes, but lets try with no cmdline and hope bootloader sets it, afaik in downstream it sets it to some werid thing
<uvos> mighty17[m]: and then compile a kernel that sits in boot with a forced cmdline to boot that partition
<mighty17[m]> <uvos "mighty17: you could flash that i"> yeah!!
<mighty17[m]> best way :D
belcher_ is now known as belcher
<uvos> and then you have a real bootloader that can set cmdline and stuch
<uvos> "real"
<mighty17[m]> xD
<uvos> android bootloaders are annoying :(
<mighty17[m]> indeed :(
<mighty17[m]> i also need `CONFIG_B43` for wifi/bt
<mighty17[m]> bcm4330
<uvos> mighty17[m]: sure add whatever modules you need to omap2plus

<parazyd> uvos: Thanks for linking this :)
<parazyd> Looks ideal, if it works as intended
<diejuse> Wizzup: it crashes when I press the top left to see all applications
<Wizzup> diejuse: what crashes exactly?
<diejuse> Wizzup: Goes to black screen
<diejuse> and everything stops working.
<uvos> Wizzup: BP segfaults all the time if you try and use it
<uvos> i ran it in valgrind its not pretty
<diejuse> Wizzup: That this works perfectly is essential to port ML to other mobiles because portrait mode is the usual thing.
<uvos> diejuse: portrait only works perfecly fine on xt875 not saying that there is no bug, but it might also be your xserver doing something funny
<Wizzup> diejuse: yeah, what uvos says might make sense, we rotate the screen with xrandr for portrait mode based on accelerometer
<Wizzup> it could be a problem in your X, is it modesetting?
<uvos> its xsdl
<Wizzup> hm
<Wizzup> wonder if it runs in anbox ;-)
<diejuse> Wizzup: uvos: yes, that is the app I use
<uvos> ps no :D
<uvos> Wizzup: *pls no :D
<Wizzup> :p
<parazyd> lol
<uvos> yeah im not sure rotation works ok on xsdl
<diejuse> Wizzup: Magic Dosbox is the better for Android hehe
<uvos> diejuse: you might have to try and see if xrandr works ok generally
<uvos> like with just i3wm or something
<uvos> or twm
<diejuse> uvos: rotation does work.
<uvos> so you can start i3wm
<uvos> and rotate back an fouth with xrandr?
<uvos> without it breaking?
<diejuse> uvos: no ... xrandr will only work if I add a layer with Xephyr
<uvos> diejuse: well theres your problem
<uvos> hildon will try and use xrandr and fail
<diejuse> uvos: I understand :(
<uvos> there is not mutch we can do about it
<uvos> i gues we could a option in transition.ini to tell hildon to never touch xrandr
<uvos> but mostly you need to complain to the xsdl dev that xrandr is broken :)
<diejuse> uvos: It would be good. In any case I'm going to try the Xephyr trick.

<diejuse> uvos Wizzup: I've been testing and there are no crashes with Xephyr. I get to rotate using "xrandr" from osso-xterm but when I click on the top left corner Hildon desktop returns to landscape mode.
<diejuse> Now that xrandr is not a problem, I need to find some way to put Hildon desktop in portrait mode.
<uvos> diejuse: you need to turn off rotation in android
<uvos> and get the accelerometer to mce somehow
<diejuse> uvos: Android rotation is off
<uvos> diejuse: right so now you need to get the accel to mce
<uvos> diejuse: if your kernel provides the sensor as a iio device this is easy
<uvos> you just need to install iio-sensor-proxy
<uvos> and load the iio-accelerometer mce module
<uvos> and you need to have /dev/ mounted in the chroot
<uvos> er i meant /sys
<diejuse> iio-sensor-proxy is already installed
<diejuse> /dev/ is already mounted too
<uvos> i ment sys
<uvos> and check monitor-sensor
<uvos> and see if its picking up the accel
<uvos> and create a file like this
<uvos> but remove everthing except the ModuleDevice line
