farkuhar: I just asked ChatGPT (you can ask nowadays even without an account) to list Linux distro's without systemd, and it listed CRUX as one of them. It said just "CRUX", not "CRUX GNU/Linux".
<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh_: About the South Korea issue. It really seems more and more to me that it's all just the elites trying to stir up as much chaos as possible by January 20, and then blame it all on Trump.
<SiFuh_>
We will see, but I am still waiting on this alien space battle
<remiliascarlet>
Probably happens all the time, but if we're the only ones in our solar system, then I don't see a point for aliens to travel all the way to just above Earth, just to have a war together.
<SiFuh_>
“Since I wrote the lyrics and ought to know what the lyrics I wrote is really about, come January 2025, my wife will start suing each and every news organization that falsely refers to Y.M.C.A., either in their headlines or alluded to in the base of the story, that Y.M.C.A. is somehow a gay anthem because such notion is based solely on the song’s lyrics alluding to elicit activity for which it
<SiFuh_>
does not. However, I don’t mind that gays think of the song as their anthem.”
<SiFuh_>
Mir the Cat, gifted by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Norihisa Satake, the governor of Japan’s Akita Prefecture, has passed away, local authorities announced on Tuesday.
<SiFuh_>
ukky: How come Venom Linux gets a mention and not CRUX since Venom is based off of CRUX?
<ukky>
SiFuh_: No idea. Maybe it has less ports to poke around?
<ukky>
Maybe Venom Linux has no contrib collections? Crux has two references to elogind, and it is a no-go marker on that list.
<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh_: The woke has no creativity (apart from inventing random words to use as an insult), which is why they always take over what's already out there, and destroy it.
<SiFuh_>
ukky: Maybe
<SiFuh_>
remiliascarlet: Republicans Built an Ecosystem of Influencers, Some Democrats Want One Too
<SiFuh_>
That's funny since those 'Influencers' use to actually be Democrats and switched to Conservativism after the Democrats turned weird.
<remiliascarlet>
And they used to be loved by decorats, then they switched political sides, and all of the sudden they became "evil racist, sexist, transphobic biggots". Funny how that works, right?
<remiliascarlet>
s/decorats/democrats
<remiliascarlet>
They looked at Obama and thought "hey, if we can put a nigger in power, then we should be able to put a woman in power, a transformer as the press secretary, a perverted man with dimensia in power, a woman of color in power, etc.". They can't seem to realize that the reason Obama won is not because of his skin color, but because he has a likable persona. And the reason why Biden won is because
<remiliascarlet>
of the massive amounts of mail in ballots from dead people.
<remiliascarlet>
George Washington, born in 1732, voted for Joe Biden in 2020. Seems legit...
<remiliascarlet>
I tried to troll ChatGPT, but actually gave a reasonable answer...
<remiliascarlet>
Me: "During the 2020 presidential elections, who did George Washington vote for?"
<remiliascarlet>
ChatGPT: "George Washington, the first President of the United States, passed away in 1799, long before the 2020 presidential election. Therefore, he did not vote in that election. Washington famously warned against the dangers of political parties in his farewell address and is often regarded as a non-partisan figure in early American history."
<remiliascarlet>
Wiki: "His 1796 farewell address became a preeminent statement on republicanism in which he wrote about the importance of national unity and the dangers that regionalism, partisanship, and foreign influence pose to it." Looks like the elites of today didn't listen, and with this, proved him right.
<uwumeowmeownyaa>
It's either "GNU/zorz" if zorz can not be utilized without GNU or "GNU zorz" if zorz is a part of GNU.
<uwumeowmeownyaa>
Also, the correct slash is "/", the "\" one is blasphemy.
<uwumeowmeownyaa>
*back to watching anime UwU*
<SiFuh_>
Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
<SiFuh_>
The cheek and the arrogance
<ukky>
I think we should rename all tools humanity ever invented by prefixing them with Flintstone. Like, I have used Flintstone/chainsaw to cut the tree by my house.
<SiFuh_>
ukky: And why the hell does GNU get to be before Linux?
<ukky>
Yeah, that's second subject to nit-pick
<SiFuh_>
OpenBSD maintains a strict license policy, preferring the ISC license and other variants of the BSD license. The project attempts to "maintain the spirit of the original Berkeley Unix copyrights," which permitted a "relatively un-encumbered Unix source distribution." The widely used Apache License and GNU General Public License are considered overly restrictive.
<SiFuh_>
ISC/BSD/OpenBSD or is it BSD/ISC/OpenBSD ?
<ukky>
Some would say BSD/ISC/OpenBSD, in alphabetical order.
<SiFuh_>
Maybe it is an Islamic thing. Osama bin Laden. Osama son of Laden. Gnu / Linux
<SiFuh_>
ukky: Gave the wife a Moringa nut and asked her to try this. I asked her what it tastes like and she says she doesn't know she swallowed it whole. I said but you are suppose to chew it and she says but you never told me to chew it...... WTF? So I give her a second one and she chews it then after she eats it she asks me if this can be eaten raw. "No, you have to boil it in goat's blood and dance around
<SiFuh_>
it and sing praises to the spirits of Voodoo."... bloody hell
<ukky>
Does FS in FSF mean FlintStone? Can we add Flintstone to GNU?: Flintstone/GNU
<farkuhar>
ukky: I found two references to elogind in the crux-xfce repo and the ppetrov repo, but those are not part of the official project. Maybe CRUX is disqualified from the strict list because it provides dbus (with system-wide init script) in an official repo.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: It was disqualified because sudo was in core and dumb_runtiume_dir
<SiFuh_>
ukky: Hahahahaha That was before beerman was given core access ;-)
<farkuhar>
SiFuh_: Which port did beerman add to core, that disqualified CRUX from the strict list? Surely not sudo?
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: It could be beerman himself ;-)
<farkuhar>
SiFuh_: I just did `git log dbus` in the opt repo, and I found commits dating back to 2006 (by jaeger, frinnst, jue, and other old-timers). beerman's commits started appearing in 2021, so you might be onto something.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: I am trying to get my head around the English from this lady in the US. No punctuation at all.
<SiFuh_>
They should be there before then not do apologize I usually the next day
<SiFuh_>
But in the second reply
<SiFuh_>
That's okay and like I said I do apologize
<SiFuh_>
I didn't paste the entire thing as it would be insane but I am guessing this is typed on a phone
<farkuhar>
remiliascarlet: ChatGPT is just one of the ways to generate text with excessive verbosity and everything spelled out longform. The other way is auto-complete, which doesn't even need to be computer-assisted! Muscle memory is enough to explain uwumeowmeownyaa's penchant for always typing "GNU/Linux" after every distro name.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: I hate that. Ask ChatGPT something and instead of to the point it replies with a fucking essay.
<zorz>
Ψατ
<zorz>
ChatGPT/GNU
<zorz>
:=D δ
<SiFuh_>
No zorz you must be uwumeowmeownyaa'tly correct and say GNU/ChatGPT
<farkuhar>
zorz: Didn't we tell you to reserve the slash for connecting two components that have a dependency relationship between them? If you can run GNU without ChatGPT, then the slash does not belong.
<farkuhar>
On the other hand, there must be some idiots who need to consult ChatGPT to navigate their way around a GNU userland, so maybe zorz is onto something.
<SiFuh_>
zorz doesn't know farkuhar He can't read. He listens only
<SiFuh_>
By the way. I was trying to send a voice to text message on the wife's iPhone. I had to say 'comma' and 'full stop' so the punctuation was correct.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh_: I'm still waiting for you to elaborate on your claim that beerman uses too many acronyms.
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: No need, just read the logs at how many times I ask him wtf he is talking about due to the acronyms
<farkuhar>
At least he doesn't reply "with a fucking essay", which would make you suspect he's outsourcing some of the writing to ChatGPT.
<SiFuh_>
Hahaha you having a stab at Osas?
<farkuhar>
I did get a strangely-worded email from my cousin a few weeks ago, which read like something generated by a LLM. Then I learned that even in his everyday in-person interactions, he's constantly consulting some AI engine, as if unable to think for himself.
<SiFuh_>
Ewww
<SiFuh_>
farkuhar: That letter I rewrote and corrected that my wife brought to me. The sentence about the partial reimbursement was changed because it was too strong of a meaning to "You should pay up" Hahahaha I was laughing and angry at the same time.
<SiFuh_>
It's like someone super glued a sentence to it that just didn't match and that the child that did that had no fucking idea what was being asked.
<farkuhar>
This cousin has been rather quiet since his father's funeral (shortly after the email), so maybe he just needed to unload some bottled-up stress onto his long-estranged relations, and then he moved on to more proximal targets.
ppetrov^ has joined #crux-social
<SiFuh_>
ppetrov^: are weird.
<SiFuh_>
Shit... I mean people are weird.
<ppetrov^>
?
<ppetrov^>
heh
<SiFuh_>
Accident y'all
<farkuhar>
Speak of the devil^H^H^H^H^H elogind port maintainer, and he arrives in the channel.
<SiFuh_>
Hehe
<ppetrov^>
no
<ppetrov^>
i have a port that builds the lib, but it is simply to satosfy WPS Office
<ppetrov^>
and recently it stopped working
<farkuhar>
Good riddance. Who needs an office suite anyway? Let's all go back to terminal-based computing.
<SiFuh_>
Emacs is my friend
<farkuhar>
ppetrov^: Oh, I thought it was XFCE that needed elogind. At least that's what I concluded from the presence of elogind in r0ni's xfce4 repo.
<ppetrov^>
the elogind stopped working, WPS works almost fine
<ppetrov^>
no idea about r0ni
<ppetrov^>
WPS expects systemd so it can let you change themes
<ppetrov^>
pretty ridiculous
<farkuhar>
Hmm, looks like r0ni wrote ports for xfce4 version 4.18, but ppetrov^ settled on version 4.12. Did something change between 4.12 and 4.18 that necessitated elogind?
<ppetrov^>
no idea
<ppetrov^>
and i stick to 4.12 because of GTK2
<ppetrov^>
it's funny how QT4, QT5 and QT6 all can mimic GTK2 themes perfectly well, but same does not apply for GTK3 and GTK4
<farkuhar>
ppetrov^: I can't use the opt/webkitgtk port as the dependency for nyxt, because of the GTK3 versus GTK4 incompatibility. But if security fixes aren't back-ported to the older version of webkitgtk, then it becomes dangerous to run nyxt as a daily driver (currently only possible on CRUX-glibc, not CRUX-musl, for what it's worth).
<farkuhar>
I actually could run nyxt as a daily driver on CRUX-musl, if I restricted myself to the gemini protocol rather than https. The LISP code that calls the gnutls API for https requests seems to be broken on musl-based systems, but I haven't had time to dig deeper.
<ukky>
My most advanced artistic achievement is clapping my hands. I am pretty good at it.
<SiFuh_>
So you can't even fart musically?
<SiFuh_>
I reckon I might digitize that rat image.
<ukky>
No, I can't.
<SiFuh_>
ukky: Heh
<ukky>
You are good at drawing
<SiFuh_>
Not sure if the fingers have those fine motor skills anymore but I don't think it is a lost art.
<SiFuh_>
ukky: I have drawn a couple of images in the last 4 years but my hands cramp up. :-(
<ukky>
Like any craft, this one gets only better with practice. But you loose some skills without practice.
<SiFuh_>
ukky: When I was a kid we grew up with cartoons. I didn't really watch the shows, I was more interested in their drawing styles. Rocko's Modern Life and Fern Gully were huge influencers for me
<SiFuh_>
And I spent a lot of time with comic books and trained by some professional cartoonists as well to enhance my abilities.
<SiFuh_>
I was writing comic strips and even decided to go to the newspapers but after awhile, I realised there was no money in it. You'd need to give the newspapers 300 comic strips and they'd pay you like 3K AUD for the lot if they liked them.
<SiFuh_>
Even the government of Australia asked me to do work for them and then the assholes refused to pay me.
<SiFuh_>
I was heart broken when two guys asked me to teach them and then they used my work to get scholarships. After that, I lost interest.
<SiFuh_>
Was a very mean game back in the day. No money and your work always being stolen and everyone getting credit for it.
<SiFuh_>
Oh and for anyone who knows the commerical in the US "It takes two to toss tostitos". The dog and the lizard were mine and stolen from me in Rhode Island.
