hello, I'm currently trying to do some risk-analysis/assurance on a yocto project to make sure that we can do a full rebuild in the event that our existing environment and infrastructure catastrophically fails.

If I understand things right, I believe that a typical environment will have many third party dependencies that are fetched from source from various places on the internet (say, e.g gnu coreutils)

And unlike a traditional linux distribution such as Debian, it's my responsibility to make sure that I keep those source copies safe for as long as I want to be able to rebuild my project?

yes - there is a variable which you can set - so that it will only use local copies of the source and not do internet downloads.

in addition to keeping the source "safe", you will also want to keep a supported host/build distro "safe" - either as OEM install media, or more typically as a VM image. You can't use today's Ubuntu to build Yocto from five years ago.

Best if you test what you have saved at least once - yank the ethernet cable out of the wall and do a complete end to end run - from host install to yocto build, to deploy on the target

farmadupe: basically what paulg said. Keep DL_DIR, your metadata and the host distro you use and it should all work, assuming the metadata doesn't bypass the fetcher and does things we don't support

Why are u-boot config fragments not taken into account while using devtool menuconfig? All the options I set in config fragments are not set. On the other hand everything seems to be working fine while calling bitbake -c menuconfig

Shouldn't it work in that way that if my config fragment set XYZ=y, then while calling devtool modify u-boot, then devtool menuconfig u-boot the XYZ=y is already present?

I'm working on getting meta-rockchip to build on a Radxa Zero 3E.

To compile it, I had to change the commit the kernel was using in linux-torvalds-next_get.bb.

When I boot the board with this image, I see the heartbeat led flashing, but I don't see anything on the screen. Also, it doesn't seem like USB is working either. This is of course, most likely, from the changes I made.
