is there a way to force close a window? doing regular 'close' only asks the window to be closed, but i've had some times where the application is not implemented properly and its window never dissapears despite the process being gone
<sewn>
this causes river itself to become much slower, i presume waiting for the window to be gone
<vyivel>
in theory river could have an action to forcefully disconnect a client
<vyivel>
"the application is not implemented properly and its window never dissapears despite the process being gone" oh that sounds like a compositor bug actually
<ifreund>
probably either a bug or the process isnt actually gone...

hello. I had a map-switch normal lid close action to power off my laptop lid when closed. today I realized it is not working. nothing happens when my lid is closed. I checked that acpi registers the event but nothing happens in river. anybody has any idea what can be missing?

I'd say the most likely explanation is that whatever command you have mapped with map-switch is failing
<ifreund>
what command are you using? does it work from the terminal? exactly what command do you use to map it?
<ifreund>
pixavi: ^
<ifreund>
there should also be output from the command in river's stderr in case it's logging an error message or something

hi ifreund. I tested with wlopm and wl-randr both work standalone. I also used notify- just to have a dummy notification when the event happened. and nothing. I'm going to see the stderr...
<pixavi>
hear me slapping my face.... I forgot the spawn in the riverctl map-switch lid close SPAWN command 🤦
<pixavi>
but now that I have the log... I have another question... I see a lot of errors like this: connector eDP-1: Atomic commit failed: Device or resource busy
<pixavi>
I see them while typing. quite often... they come from wlroots. are they concerning?
