<Guest224>
anyway Maemo Leste is much more than new OS for some phones..so why not picture all of them with Leste and good text with picture.
<Guest224>
but maybe that is when you can use Leste as every day phone.

buZz: should i mention that i packaged it? and i packaged it by building with mobile interface mode. on pmos it is built in desktop mode, and it is not that usable.

yeah it works really nice norayr , thanks for packaging :D

<Guest224>
I tested pmos on pp (official image) it is horrible to use compared to leste, execpt one important thing for me:I could go internet with gprs and Firefox just like that.
<Guest224>
just like that means It was easy as it should be.
<Guest224>
ok..almost easy that should be..to get gprs connection is not easy as on Maemo 5 on N900, but easier than with Leste.
<Guest224>
actually I have to choose 2 times to get connnection with Maemo 5..i forget that. Is that normal?
<Wizzup>
no, this is fixed in -devel
<uvos>
still happens here too tho btw
<uvos>
sometimes it just fails
<uvos>
(different issue than that it used to not wait on an async call)

the 'need to do it two times' is more often on wifi, for me
<buZz>
vs gprs
<norayr>
i don't use gprs, and yes, with wifi repeating the try is often necessary. (:
<norayr>
i use pmos for making photos mostly, i think.
<Wizzup>
ah, wifi, ok
<Wizzup>
that is not fixed yet
<buZz>
some day :)

<uvos>
mce read and wrote the right key
<uvos>
but it registered the watch in the wrong place
<uvos>
i find it sorta absurd that gconf lets you set a watch on a key without as mutch as a warning, but anyways its fixed.
<uvos>
*on a key that dosent exist

great

buzz: good to know, but choosing two times is not so bad for me, I can live with it.
<buZz>
same :) still, important to improve over time imho
<Guest224>
I think this time is more important to get some news to web page and forum.
<buZz>
hmhm, there's a lot of good news to bring :)

somebody that have access to website can copy paste this news:"Some progress have been made." :)

and some screenshot with it...I think some of you have more nice widgets on desktop.
<Guest224>
it is so simple.
<uvos>
freemangordon: so the "groups" the "xdg notificaion" api as implemented in hildon-home are unusable by sphone
<uvos>
or really anything for that matter
<uvos>
since /etc/hildon-desktop/notification-groups.conf hardcodes the endpoints of who gets to do a certain type of like "missed call" and even goes so far as to hardcode what dbus calls to call in response
<uvos>
like com.nokia.modest /com/nokia/modest com.nokia.modest top_application etc

I don't think any of it will be new to you

still interesting to see how you promote things

right

no, I meant original Nokia Maemo...I think it is something to do with my GSM operator SIM, both of them.
<Guest224>
so if Leste has same problem...it is not big problem.
<Guest224>
Wizzup: I know your big work for promotion, thanks for that.
<Guest224>
I think that two times to get connection problems is because N900 not wait enough to get connection.
<Guest224>
maybe N900 is too fast ;)

or operator is too slow for N900 :)

Guest224: yes i am very surprised about your Maemo 5 problem ... i wonder if you shouldn't reflash. without being dogmatic about it - i think i've never heard anyone mention anything similar. so it's more likely some system corruption, or your ISP
<Guest224>
sicelo: good to know...I think it is ISP, because now tested with two N900.
<uvos>
this btw isent really the place to discuss fremantle issues, except in the way that they relate/or are still in leste
<uvos>
gets confusing fast otherwise
<Guest224>
yes..i know, but if same problem comes with leste, then it is good to know that porblem can be outside of leste.

<dotexe1337>
hi! i have wanted to try out maemo for a while and managed to pick up a like-new refurbished n900 today for $95 on ebay :D
<norayr>
congrats.
<dotexe1337>
this will be my first real "linux phone", only had ubports before
<norayr>
it is not the most powerful device though.
<dotexe1337>
im aware, but i like the hardware, with the sliding keyboard and all
<dotexe1337>
im using old x61 thinkpad as my daily driver currently so i clearly dont care about power that much :p
<norayr>
you'll get it with maemo fremantle which has lots of software in its repos
<norayr>
but which is very outdated.
<dotexe1337>
is fremantle the official version from nokia?
<norayr>
yes.
<dotexe1337>
kk
<dotexe1337>
i plan to just install leste right away and try it out
<dotexe1337>
might flash back to fremantle if needed though
<dotexe1337>
it will be a bit before i get the phone however, since it has to come from china and im in usa. will probably be 1 month
<dotexe1337>
i think some chinese dude ended up with a warehouse full of them or something lol, a ton just popped up on ebay all at once
<dotexe1337>
i also want to try postmarketos on it as well for fun
<norayr>
'and then you'll install maemo leste, which has tte latest kernel and works over real upstream debian (devuan, to be plecise) but lacks maemo software.
<dotexe1337>
can leste run any software thats released on devuan?
<norayr>
On the other hand u can install everything from debian repos.
<dotexe1337>
ye ok, thats rly what im after - being able to run desktop linux software
<dotexe1337>
ill try all the different distros that are available for n900 and pick the one i like
<norayr>
Winh fremantle it was not possible as it was built on top of debian fork.
<dotexe1337>
ah
<norayr>
right now i think calls/sms are more convenient with fremantle.
<dotexe1337>
well, i am in usa which no longer has 3g networks so i cant call/sms on it anyways
<norayr>
and camera works there.
<dotexe1337>
my goal was to just connect it to wifi and use like a computer essentially
<norayr>
but using it as a modern linux box is about running leste.
<dotexe1337>
ye, that is my goal
<dotexe1337>
i am also interested in trying some other distros because i thought it would be fun to set it up with i3wm like i have on my laptop
<dotexe1337>
i saw a video of a guy doing that on n900 a while back
<norayr>
yes, it is fun. i have debian's frefox and chromium, pli use it with pidgin and to access my server via ssh.
<norayr>
i also have frozen bubble and tower toppler on it though i am not doing games more often than once a year.
<norayr>
yes, you'll have lots of fun with it.
<norayr>
if that kind of fun is what you are after, then n900 is a device for you.
<dotexe1337>
awesome! thank you :)
<norayr>
it is not a ready to use modern android or ios replacement.
<dotexe1337>
hopefully it will get there eventually
<dotexe1337>
it would be cool if someone could make some kind of 4g lte addon for these since carriers are dropping 3g
<norayr>
thank you too for becoming a member of open source free mobile linux communities.
