SiFuh: My general observation over the past few years is that Linux tries too hard to become the new Windows (which makes sense considering how much power and control Microsoft has gained over the kernel development, and Lennard Poettering is a Microsoft employee), FreeBSD tries too hard to become the new Linux (at least, what it used to be), and OpenBSD and NetBSD both prefer to just continue
<remiliascarlet>
to be Unix.
<remiliascarlet>
To make the list more complete, macOS tries too hard to become the iOS for desktops, and Windows is more or less directionless.
<SiFuh>
I care not
<SiFuh>
It's all shit anyways.
<SiFuh>
All distros and OS's have been hijacked by selfish egotistical pricks that would scream and cry if a spider walked by.
<SiFuh>
Put them behind a keyboard and they think they can take on the Predator
<remiliascarlet>
Sounds like you're switching to TempleOS soon?
<SiFuh>
Didn't he die?
<remiliascarlet>
Yes.
<remiliascarlet>
But the OS is still available.
<remiliascarlet>
And there are people actually writing or porting software to it.
<SiFuh>
I will stick with OpenBSD
<remiliascarlet>
But that's exactly why I mentioned TempleOS, because Jerry Davis isn't like that, because he's dead.
<remiliascarlet>
Looks like 9legacy is still dead.
<SiFuh>
9legacy loos like Sleepy

Someone went full blown anti-capitalist, pro-LGBT, "muh oppressed minorities" and so on on the XMPP group chat of a friend of mine, and got banned over for being too political and annoying.

The admin made it clear that the group is about people interested in technology, primarily Unix(-like), so woke shit does not belong there.

I fully agree with this statement.

except i'm gonna get a porter thing mounted.

i wish i could have a front basket like in e.t.

When I use to deliver newspapers, I had three chemical containers attached to my BMX. One off the handle bars and the other two over on each side of the rear wheels
<lavaball>
yeah, because you printed them locally?
<lavaball>
usually newspapers are alreayd in readable form when you go deliver them.

this time it was "Predator Dreadlocks for Helmet" that scared away zorz? I'm continually baffled, trying to predict what will trigger certain individuals to remove themselves from the discussion.
<farkuhar>
I still find it hard to believe that zorz was born the same year as SiFuh. The cynical attitude "all distros and OS's have been hijacked by selfish egotistical pricks" is not something I can imagine coming from zorz (at least in his latest incarnation as OpenBSD fanboi).
<SiFuh>
:-P
<SiFuh>
I don't think cynical is the word to use though since I am stating fact
<remiliascarlet>
The difference is that over here nobody will scold you, so anger builds up until enough complaints come to actually make new rules.
<remiliascarlet>
Oh, you got scolded over hiding somebody else's face?
<SiFuh>
Like sudo, linux-pam and dumb_runtime_dir put into core?
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: Yes
<remiliascarlet>
Just put the entirety of opt and contrib into core at this point.
<SiFuh>
[00 36 10] [cruxbridge> <tim> I am currently trying to solve the ninja issues with qt*-webengine.. I certainly await the day that I can drop the qt5 stuff
<SiFuh>
[00 42 11] [serpente> then we can only hope you will not move qt6 to core too
<remiliascarlet>
SiFuh: "Yes" OK, I can't understand why.
<SiFuh>
:-)
<SiFuh>
Because she was "Hangry" (Hungry angry) and I put an angry face over hers
<remiliascarlet>
I misread that as "Hungary".
<remiliascarlet>
So I thought "a Hungarian woman in your truck?".
<SiFuh>
I heard the word used for the first time on the youtube series "Matt's Off Road Recovery"
<SiFuh>
remiliascarlet: Just want I need, a Hungarian woman. A woman that handles bigger sausages than what I have. :'-(
<SiFuh>
The are like 40 cm's long and I wonder why
<remiliascarlet>
Sounds like German bratwurst.
<SiFuh>
Still, their sausages are awesome
zorz has joined #crux-social
<remiliascarlet>
I love home made sausages only. The supermarket ones are always full of junk inside.
<SiFuh>
It isn't the same model as yours has a serpent on the blade
<SiFuh>
But I think I am getting close
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: I haven't yet managed to remove the dowel, so if the manufacturer's name is hidden in the handle, it'll stay hidden for a while longer.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: No worries. Hopefully not a manfacturer and actually a sword smith.
<farkuhar>
Pulling out the dowel (with a pair of pliers) didn't work right away, so my next step would have been to try hammering it out. If that fails, then in frustration I might try to drill the dowel to smithereens.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: That serpent thing is the tail of a dragon isn't it?
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: yes, it's a dragon engraved on the blade.
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: No, you shouldn't use pliars. You just tap it out with a slightly smaller dowel. There should be two. One near the top and one near the bottom.
<farkuhar>
SiFuh: okay, I figured that using pliers was the wrong approach. I'll try tapping with a smaller dowel, then.
<SiFuh>
The chances are you might have a Chinese Katana
<SiFuh>
farkuhar: Don't rush it. That's for sure. All good, it is only curiosity really
<farkuhar>
In https://pspodcasting.net/dan/blog/2019/thumbs/oses.jpg shouldn't there be a toaster to identify the NetBSD mascot? I see a coffee press instead. Is the slogan "of course it runs NetBSD" supposed to apply to _any_ kitchen appliance?
<farkuhar>
As I implied when calling them "trinkets", these are just replica swords, not the real thing.
<SiFuh>
Yeah, but I'd bet you'd be excited to learn if they were genuine
<farkuhar>
Anyway, thanks to zorz for sharing his upload_file() shell function. I added that to my kshrc, so I won't be tempted to use JS-infested websites for sharing photos.
<SiFuh>
The two I have in Australia are genuine. But the new one I plan on getting I know isn't genuine because it will be produced by "Cold Steel"
<zorz>
ugguu.se is good deletes everything after 3 hours.
<zorz>
SiFuh: wait i will email you the executable /etc/mime.types and ~/.mailcap
<zorz>
do not compile anything.
<farkuhar>
Heh, I remember tinkering with ~/.mailcap back when I used to run mutt. Nowadays I don't bother to maintain ~/.mailcap, and I rarely need to override the default handlers installed in /usr/share/applications.
<SiFuh>
I used procmail fetchmail and mutt for years. Never used mailcap
<zorz>
yes i use mailcap mainly to open files with nnn and then urls from this channel, youtube video and my .mailcap is this https://dpaste.com/F2FA5Q8Y3
<zorz>
i switched vim to vile.... much better.
<zorz>
SiFuh: mail arrived.
<SiFuh>
No
<zorz>
i just sent it... with mutt gmx mailcap.tar.gz 3 files in it
<SiFuh>
zorz: I just received an email subject "Hey, butt monkey"
<zorz>
throough the binary in path, the mime.types in etc... and play around... if you like it keep it.
<zorz>
otherwise rm
<zorz>
small trick if you: run-mailcap --debug file you see the association of mimetypes.
<zorz>
i like in mailcap that i pass nohup and shell commands like this one application/octet-stream; nohup $HOME/.check_url.sh '%s' > /dev/null 2>&1 &; test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
<zorz>
let me send you the check_url.sh checks for video or site if video ffplay else firefox
