<mangix> So, would it be a good idea to move my Helios 4 off of Debian 10 and onto 11?
<nekomancer[m]> try to do fresh install keeping old flash.
<nekomancer[m]> * old flash card untouched.
<mangix> right that's the plan
<mangix> i think I need to do some research on how to do btrfs snapshots with samba
<mangix> or maybe keep it as it
<mangix> *is

<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> uh oh. BTRFS error (device sda): bdev /dev/sdb errs: wr 12, rd 83, flush 0, corrupt 7, gen 0

<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> wonder if I've hit the bad power supply problem

<rapha> hi all
<rapha> may https://www.armbian.com/odroid-c2/#kernels-archive-all be understood to mean that armbian will run on the C2 using kernel version 5.10.x? or is that an autogenerated page just portraying it like that?
<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> rapha 5.10 should be fine on C2.
<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> Let me know if any issues crop up
iobus has joined #armbian
<rapha> Tony, thank you for the info! It'd be absolutely great because at the moment I'm using Alarm on all my C2s and C0s which means they're stuck on kernel 3.14 or something thereabouts. Not great for USB WiFi dongle drivers.
<rapha> Downloading now...
<rapha> Tonymac32: is the .img file intended to simply be dd'd onto an eMMC?
alekksander has joined #armbian
<Herc> armbian worked great on my odroidc2s (some months ago, not online just now tho), dd should work, initial setup takes a while (fs expand)
<rapha> That's alright. Got a whole Saturday evening to waste now :)
<Armbian-Discord> <Tonymac32> dd to SD, boot SD, nand-sata-install to eMMC
<rapha> Aha!
<Herc> IIRC direct dd to emmc worked too on my c2

<rapha> Alright, let's see if I can find a microSD card somewhere. One of the R/C planes' actioncam should have a 16GB card.
<rapha> Or I'll try Herc's way first.

<Herc> I had a strange issue, one board had no ethernet, the other one works flawlessly (bought both at the same time from the same source)
<Herc> running bullseye btw
<Herc> just fired up and upgraded to 5.10.102

<rapha> hmm ... dd still running ... started out at 2MiB/s ... now down to 90KiB/s. very strange.
<rapha> oh, it's going up and down.

<Herc> cool, reboot via ssh works now :) (didn't work on 5.10.60)

<rapha> so, that doesn't boot at all
<rapha> single partition 1.7GB, mountable ... looks right.
<rapha> too bad, so the sdcard method then.

<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> Rejected - it is based on a dictionary word. Try again [2]. <-- who thought this was a good idea?
<rapha> Tonymac32, so, unfortunately it doesn't boot from SD card either
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> they set it for security to not allown common passwds
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> who does?
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> so it does boot from sd if you get a set passwd
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> you just have to use a non common passwd
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> again, who does?
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> armbian for secutiry because to many people where setting simple passwords and getting hacked
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> so its a security function to protect your syste
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> you can change it ltr
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> to a non secure one
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> but the setup script requires a secure one for protection
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> A dictionary password is not insecure
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> eg, Bananaslug77777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 is fine
<rapha> i really don't get what's the difference between the (working) ArchLinux ARM eMMC and the (not booting) Armbian eMMC :-(
<c0rnelius> Haven't looked into it, but I would suggest the version of u-boot.
<rapha> c0rnelius: wait, do i have to flash just the .img.xz or also another file?
<c0rnelius> I have no clue what board or img you are talking about. So I don't know. But when it comes to boot, it usually falls upon u-boot.
<rapha> odroid c2
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> hmmm
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> U-Boot SPL 2019.04-armbian (Mar 10 2022 - 00:25:38 +0000) U-Boot 2019.04-armbian for helio
<c0rnelius> I for sure don't know. I don't own the board.
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> why not 2022 🙂
<rapha> ah, k
<rapha> thx tho c0rnelius :)
<c0rnelius> ur welcome.
<c0rnelius> Someone is supposed to be sending me some a C1 though, along with some other boards. If they are anything alike I may know in a couple weeks.
