<rapha> they're a lot alike although the C2 is quite a bit newer than the C1
<rapha> ah, it seems my belief that something more than just flashing the image needs to be done came from the memory of what you have to do with archlinuxarm ... who don't provide an image, but a .tar.gz
<rapha> which makes this very strange tho
archetech has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> you extract the iimg from gz
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> then flash .img with dd or etcher or rufus
<Armbian-Discord> <RichN> to the sd card
<rapha> onoez
<rapha> y'all the joke is on me
<rapha> these are not C2
<rapha> these are C1+
<rapha> ouch
<rapha> so how do i find the last working image for the c1 from before support was dropped?
<rapha> https://armbian.hosthatch.com/archive/odroidc1/archive/ has a hundred or so images and reading the forums looks as though not all of them might be working
<rapha> c0rnelius: fyi, the c1+ came after the c1 but images built for one will work for either
<rapha> c0rnelius: and also if youre shipment of boards should include a c0 ... that's just a c1 but without the ethernet
<c0rnelius> I honestly don't know it was just mentioned. See if and when it actually arrives.
<c0rnelius> Just saw it in the list
<rapha> why is someone sending you collections of SBCs anyways? :)

<rapha> according to the forums there must at one point have been a file https://dl.armbian.com/odroidc1/archive/Armbian_5.89_Odroidc1_Debian_stretch_next_5.1.8.7z which is said to be working
<rapha> any chance someone might still have that lying around somewhere?

<rapha> i know that there were quite recent 5.6.x kernels working because there's https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/f054caca02deae5fe70a41245e89eee7745a8f86
<rapha> that's the newest in that archive folder by 1 minute
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> ugh replacing a raid5 btrfs drive is so slow
<Armbian-Discord> <Mangix> wish upstream would add hardware XOR support
<rapha> hah!! the image is booting!
<rapha> the thing with automatic fs resize on first boot is neat
<rapha> okay, but now, how do you log in?
<rapha> it says "root (automatic login)" but doesn't respond to any keyboard input, then times out after 60 seconds, game starts anew
<rapha> wow now all of a sudden it is asking me to enter a new root password
<rapha> still can't login tho
<rapha> very weird
<rapha> all the while doing something on the SD

<rapha> and wow!!! i'm on kernel 5.10.21 for reals!!!
<rapha> oh. but now potential data loss in dmesg after trying to plug in some USB wifi dongles.
<rapha> hmm ok an the nand-blah-install thing doesn't work. better to write to eMMC directly from the laptop.

<chewitt> there's no upstream u-boot support for meson8 hardware though, so you're stuck with the prehistoric vendor u-boot

<rapha> chewitt: i don't even know what that is (u-boot, meson8, etc), and I'm mostly interested in newer USB WiFi dongle drivers. worth the effort to learn how to build an image myself to get from 5.10 to 5.17?

<IgorPec> rapha: generally included wifi drivers in any armbian kernel are better then those that comes in 5.17

<iobus> is anyone here running Armbian on "Mi Box (has same chip on Radxa Zero SBC)" or any other TV box? how's the experience so far in 2022
<iobus> @Werner the clubs's readme says "Amlogic (S9xx) based TV Boxes" is not supported and last build is from 2020 with no devs. very helpful link, thanks
<lanefu> Yeah we're not really into TVBoxes here
<Werner> tvboxes were never "supported" by Armbian. There was a single developer only that spent his time to bring Armbian functionality to these devices. The gave up on it. Also check here: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_FAQ/#why-does-armbian-not-support-tv-boxes-the-market-is-huge
<Werner> *AML devices
<iobus> with chips shortages I cannot find or afford anything :/
<lanefu> Yeah shit happens man sorry
<iobus> I will not buy RPi 4 for $200
<Werner> orangepi 4 lts is 50$ I think
<lanefu> Orange pi has some new releases on ali express
<lanefu> Probably best bet
<iobus> @lanefu they have official store there?
<lanefu> Yes
<lanefu> It's their primary retail
<iobus> :O
<Werner> no idea about network/wifi support status on this board though. Has been chanced to motorial PHY which drivers are still WIP
<Werner> *motorola
<lanefu> Xunlong == opi
<iobus> @lanefu thanks
<lanefu> If you don't need tons of power I also like the opi 3 / allwinner h6 chip
<lanefu> But yeah same thing don't know that we've tested the LTS with new network chips
<Werner> lts boards have not arrived in lab yet I think
<lanefu> iobus: are you in north america

<rapha> IgorPec: thanks, i guess I'll stay on the pre-built image then. the Netgear USB WiFi dongle is working out of the box already. the D-Link one does nothing. the TP-Link one works but once you start putting some stress on it, the whole kernel crashes. but 1 is good enough for now.
<IgorPec> well, this is "wireless networking on linux". what i want to say is that elsewhere is just worse. we do patch and some additional drivers
<rapha> which is appreciated a lot!
<rapha> maybe eventually i will get around to looking into the other two sticks. for now i'm happy to have my 3d printer back. with archlinuxarm i was stuck on kernel 3.something.
<buZz> rapha: octoprint? )
<buZz> are you also slicing on the sbc? :D i am
<buZz> its so nice to have a 3dprinter with ethernet and no other external software requirements beside a webbrowser

<rapha> buZz: octo & klipper, yup. but not slicing on the sbc for lack of a good headless slicer.
<buZz> i'm using the 2015 cura, works for me ;)
<rapha> interesting
<rapha> i'm sometimes playing with things that are quite far out there ... trying to get into lightweight PLA for example, or other aircraft parts. got used to non-free Cura a lot now.
<buZz> i havent gotten it to work with slic3r yet, but supposedly that works too
<buZz> there's a non-free cura?
<buZz> and isnt all PLA ~1.25 g/cm³

<memes> I want to use @reboot (as user) in my crontab and from the looks of it armbian is running vixie's cron still does not work . any hints?
<montjoie> IgorPec: I asked for your power switch/ci because I wanted to speak about LAVA... but i just see that on lwn some people already speaked about it. If you need help, I can do it.
