<k.s.bedford.jr> so whats going on this am?
<c0rnelius>
I've never needed to use one. But could be the case. You guys are using mainline right?
<IgorPec>
not mainline, rpi foundation repo
<IgorPec>
but more recent kernels
<c0rnelius>
really? should just work.
<c0rnelius>
I think there was some HDMI breakage a little while ago but I believe that got fixed.
<IgorPec>
people report it doesn't work and i haven't been messing around much
<c0rnelius>
make sure nothing got muted and that its not defaulting to the analog port.
xoan has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
xoan9 is now known as xoan
<IgorPec>
well, defaulting to hdmi would probably be the best
<c0rnelius>
I can check it out later today and see what I find.
<IgorPec>
ok.
<c0rnelius>
It use to be that if hdmi was plugged in it would default to hdmi and if not would then go to analog. But I think they changed that behavior.
<IgorPec>
but this probably done via some udev magic
<IgorPec>
which is not present in armbian
<c0rnelius>
Maybe? Not sure.
<IgorPec>
just guessing.
<c0rnelius>
IgorPec: Cinnamon or XFce? Does it matter?
<Armbian-Discord>
<IgorPec> i think its the same

<k.s.bedford.jr> ?
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> what issue I built both and they work fine on jammy
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I am making a config for snd now
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> and rebooting a unit
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> but asound is not showning any hardware at all
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> hdmi or analog
<Armbian-Discord>
<Tonymac32> Last test of Rockchip 32 bit edge was perfectly fine, although it seems like GPU accel on desktops was enabled again, some lag in menus/etc
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> the pi4b does not show any sound hardware
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> root@rpi4b:~# aplay -l aplay: device_list:274: no soundcards found...
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> this leads to the fack of missing drivers I think'
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> its at the top of the list
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> so I would say yes
<c0rnelius>
Yeah it looks right.
<c0rnelius>
From what I can tell anyway. Gonna boot the img.
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> but aplay -l and alsa show nothing
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> this is a new img just built yesterday on jammy
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> if you want the img I can find somewhere to post it
<Armbian-Discord>

<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> this is also the edge kermel for testing
<c0rnelius>
IgorPec: Its the kernel. What defconfig did you use? When I removed ur bits and installed one of mine everything came up. https://paste.debian.net/1230581/
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I build with the builder. and we built using jammy and edge
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> so it looks like the mod is not loaded at boot
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> on armbian where to set to load the module
<c0rnelius>
Alright so sound is working fine now. By default its using headphones so in the pule mixer one would need to manually adjust that to use Audio Digital Stereo (IEC958). I would guess using an /etc/asound.conf you could just make that the default. BUt yeah, would need to work out the kernel issue.
<c0rnelius>
pulsemixer*
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> but the module is not being loaded on reboot now
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> might be the right module
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> ls
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> aplay -l
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> no asound.conf on the img
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> so it looks liek build has issues
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> let me find a place to post the img
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> so others can test it
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> what iis a good site to post a os img
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> it should error if the module does not load. and report it
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> not load a blank module
<Armbian-Discord>

Hi, I think might have shot my Uart on my Cubietruck A20. What can I do to test this on the software side?
<ignne>
So far, I can send from computer > cubietruck *sometimes*, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The other direction doesn't work at all. I'm using a generic CH430 usb-to-serial dongle, btw
<yang>
cubiestruck
<yang>
ignne: are you using something like a null-modem cable?
<ignne>
Huh? Not really, I'm using some jumper wires to connect the uart pins to the usb dongle
<ignne>
And yes, I tried switching rx and tx ;)
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> can you test on another board
<ignne>
Good call, I've programmed some ESPs with that dongle, but maybe it's acting up today
<ignne>
Let me see what I find in the "misc" box
<ignne>
Okay, that wasn't it, it can talk to an ESP just fine
<ignne>
But maybe I can try connecting the ESP to the Cubietruck, see what it does then..
<ignne>
okay, trying to read the ESP output with the Cubietruck uart also only partly works
<ignne>
So I guess it's the uart
argonautx has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> have you tested a loop looping the rx/tx pins
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> to see if the data comes back
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> so you think its the uart on the board ?
<ignne>
Yeah, loop doesn't work on the board uart
<ignne>
damn#
<ignne>
By the way, does anyone here know what a normal idle current for an A20 is?

<k.s.bedford.jr> should be on the chip website
<c0rnelius>
I was looking here https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/master/config/kernel and Armbian shouldn't really bother having its own defconfig for the Pi. The foundation keeps them in the hub, so if ur using the RPF github as a kernel source, just use the one provided. If it needs to be modded before compilation, you can just echo in changes or sed thing before `make`. Of course you don't need to do
<c0rnelius>
this, but thats my suggestion.
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I am not building the kernel I am using the prebuilt that armbian has
<ignne>
k.s.bedford.jr: nah, it's allwinner. One of these days, I'll find out who the ceo of allwinner is, hide under their bed, and whisper "release everythiiing" as they sleep
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I think the rpi kernel is patched by armbian for pathes and a few other things . so I dont know if the defconfig is valid or not ?
<c0rnelius>
and my lord the Armbian first boot is way different than when I first used it. Its all fancy now.
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> as a deaf developer sound is not for me its for others
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I do use a bt bone conducting headset for feeling the music but other then that sound is useless for me
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> half the company I work for is deaf/hard of hearing but the rest are either disabled or able body people
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> its fun when we do conf calls and half of us sign and discuss issues and have to have a interpiter
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> lol
<ignne>
Sounds like a great place for shy devs, you can IM people instead of talking, without being the weird one :D
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> so if i break english its due to english as a 2nd lang
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> yeah
<c0rnelius>
Interesting. A quadriplegic actually recruited for my first computer job. I basically just setup the computer lab for peps with disabilities.
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> wow
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> nice job
<c0rnelius>
It was pretty sweet.
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> Or company is working to show that people like us have a place in the workforce . alot of disabled and deaf still get turned down for jobs because companies dont want to understand the person
<c0rnelius>
Well. Thats very true.
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> and I think they dont want to hire interpiters and or other staff to help them around offices
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> but we have offices in 11 states now that mainly hire disabled
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> and out staff contracts out as needed for jobs
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> but always come home to a job when the contract ends
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I myself am abotu to relocate to NC from Utah . and open a new office in Ashville I think
<c0rnelius>
Well should be warmer
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> I am use to typing a;ot of shorthand but as a dev I kn it hrd
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> shrthd is a diff lng
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> sml
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> but we are just getting into moving to arm devices as they are smaller less power and we are working to get peopleon linux more
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> win11 is just plain pain like 10 was
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> yes it works but they are cramming to much into it
<Armbian-Discord>
<k.s.bedford.jr> imho
