<recyclehero> hi anybody has latest pr pr1.3.1, I want to factory reset my phone and then move to the leste on sdcard
<Wizzup> I think there is no pr 1.3 image, you need to flash an older one and then do incremental upgrades
<Wizzup> and just don't do the permanent flash
fab_ has joined #maemo-leste
<recyclehero> great I will try it with a >32gb sdcard now

<recyclehero> guys i though I would get leste alongside the fremantle when follwing https://leste.maemo.org/Nokia_N900#Quick. it seems I cant not use fremantle when I do sudo ./0xFFFF -m test/u-boot-2013.04-2.bin -f
<recyclehero> I am okay with that but I just want to know can I easily use the fm trasnmitter as this is the main resaon I bought this device
<recyclehero> 2nd questions: are your uboots also this dim? I have to turn on a flashlight to see the texts!
arno11 has joined #maemo-leste
<buZz> recyclehero: you dont have to do that step
<buZz> and i believe FM transmitter isnt working yet in leste, but could be wrong
<recyclehero> so everytime I want leste I should boot from 0xffff
<recyclehero> ?
<arno11> FM transmit works
<buZz> recyclehero: or read the page? > If you have a functional Fremantle installation, you can follow these steps instead:
<buZz> arno11: ah! cool
<arno11> just it is disable
<arno11> in kernerl config
<arno11> *kernel
<arno11> i forgot to ask Wizzup and fmg if they'd like to activate it again
<arno11> recyclehero: it is easier to use the "existing Fremantle" process to enjoy Leste :)
<recyclehero> arno11: I see you have some sort of daily/weekly jenkins builds, it meen you can recompile the kernel and also is there any UI for transmitiing songs like fremantle?
<recyclehero> yeah but it didnt say how to install U-Boot with kernel 2.6.28-omap1
<buZz> i think thats in fremantle
<arno11> for the moment there is no gui to transmit sound unfortunately
<arno11> yes uboot must be installed from fremantle
<recyclehero> arno11: I will figure out something in cmd
<recyclehero> arno11: since I didnt installed anything on that whats the process? internet and then apt-get install x?
<recyclehero> is the repositories even working for meamo5?!
<arno11> what PR version you have on fremantle ?
<recyclehero> about phone: version: 10.2010.19-1.003
<recyclehero> I just bought it and dont know what PR it corresponds to
<arno11> ok i understand
<arno11> there is a starter guide on maemo.org iirc
<arno11> let me have a look
akossh has joined #maemo-leste
<arno11> i think it is N900 the perfect setup
<arno11> on maemo.org website
<recyclehero> yeah I've seen it
<recyclehero> the problem is all this working site(maemo.org) links are to not working links hosted on nokia.com
<buZz> archive.org exists :P
<recyclehero> they cant be retrieved by wayback machine
<arno11> ok i see
<buZz> aw
<arno11> i don't remember where are working repositories
<recyclehero> and I dont get it why this PR things matters and why they say flashing should be incremental
<arno11> that's long and complicated to explain
<recyclehero> I would really appreciate if I could hear that from the guy who compiles the kernel
<arno11> so i see why you want to use the fist method
<recyclehero> yes cause I still dont now how to install kernel x + uboot as mentioned. I even dont know how try if my PR is the latest one by chance. apt-get install [distro kernel] whats the name of this kernel package
<arno11> from fremantle you must use application manager to avoid mistakes
<arno11> and looks for kernel power
<arno11> and uboot
<recyclehero> thanks as I'm not a gui person I didnt think of that. the simple way stupid me thanks arno11
<arno11> i understand but to find the right files you need from your pr version (seems to be pr1.2 and very old) it is the best way
<arno11> and honestly i don't remember well this old process.
<recyclehero> thanks I will try to boot with a temp uboot and see if i can bring leste on this 64fb sdcard
<recyclehero> gb
<arno11> ok otherwise i think you need to flash pr1.3 directly
<arno11> found it on flagnet.net/downloads/telephone/n900/
<buZz> btw, there is still #maemo
<buZz> with fremantle users
<arno11> yes definitly
dreamer has quit [Ping timeout: 264 seconds]
<recyclehero> I will use leste soon and btw this link wont work. should I use wayback
<recyclehero> leste question: should xz images be decompressed and written to sdcard?
<buZz> decompressed but you can do it in 1 step
<buZz> xzcat maemo-leste-1.0-armhf-droid4-20190227.img.xz | sudo dd status=progress bs=1M of=/dev/MICROSDCARD-DEVICE
<buZz> ^^^
<buZz> :)
<recyclehero> I am using lineage android as the card reader and dont have xzcat
<recyclehero> it will decompress to 32gbs?
<buZz> likely to 2 or 4GB
<buZz> highly doubt >4
<recyclehero> great thanks
<buZz> you can decompress xz by hand too i guess
<recyclehero> yeah I should do it on pc adb push then dd as there is no xz util on andorid but thats my problem
<buZz> pc doesnt have a microsd card reader?
<sicelo> recyclehero: fm transmitter is working. the instructions are in wiki ... look at the table, under fm transmitter
<recyclehero> buZz: sony vgn-gw548f and my card reader is dead
<recyclehero> sicelo: thanks
<sicelo> arno11: um ... it got disabled now?
<buZz> RIP
<sicelo> recyclehero: if you're not going to be using Fremantle you don't really need to update it to any PR. uboot can be installed on what version of Fremantle you have
<arno11> sicelo: yes it is disable
<sicelo> it was enabled in the past
<arno11> yes indeed
<arno11> and not anymore
<recyclehero> arno11: please enable it. what was the decision process for disabling a kernel config of an exsiting hardware?
<arno11> i don't know i'm not a dev just a user
<arno11> i think it is not a decision just a mistake
<sicelo> you could create an issue on github requesting that
<arno11> true lol
<arno11> Wizzup: sicelo: i found why there is the weird 15 sec bug for incoming calls
<arno11> cmtspeech is only looking for ofono AudioSetting states and there is nothing reporting "pick up/answering calls"
<Wizzup> good find
<arno11> cmtspeech must look in ofono "VoiceCall" state
<arno11> yes :)
<Wizzup> right, sphone has code for this that we could borrow perhaps
<arno11> cool
<recyclehero> sicelo: which repo https://github.com/maemo-leste
<arno11> Wizzup: from what i understand i think only few lines added in cmtspeech should do the trick
<Wizzup> ok, good
<arno11> i'll try and LYK
<sicelo> and you say you're not a dev :-)
<arno11> :) that's just a hobby
<recyclehero> I decompressed and dd the img to the sdcard but and select uboot from sdcard but I get "invalid partition 4"
<sicelo> image has only two partitions
<recyclehero> maemo-leste-1.0-armhf-n900-20230423.img
<recyclehero> is this correct?
<recyclehero> I am using the 2020 pali uboot

<recyclehero> I did the write I android ana accessed the sdcard from the andorid vold not the mmcblock. it wrote 2.4gb then now 2.9gb and I have leste and latest kernel on a 2009 device. :) my bad thanks

<freemangordon> Wizzup: dunno, does it make sense? With no modern browser that's able to run on n900...
<sicelo> i don't think lack of browser disqualifies it. i guess Leste is more than just a browser.
<sicelo> of course, emmc images might not be worth the trouble due to other reasons
<sicelo> they could be useful though in case someone's sd card reader is broken -- i have a device with that here
