midfavila you doing it at home or at a testing center of some sort?
<midfavila>
testing centre
<midfavila>
>implying their proctoring malware would run on my computers
<midfavila>
>implying i own a microphone or camera
<midfavila>
i already have my 1101 which i wasn't super concerned about since that's just hardware
<midfavila>
the only thing i had major issues with was memorising the fifty bajillion variants of USB there are now, but i also just dont care about the specific bandiwdth of usb 4 2x1 gen 3.3 or whatever lol

the real problem is the 1102 bc i haven't used windows in a major capacity since like tenth grade in high school

>>implying their proctoring malware would run on my computers
<kris_>
that's why i'm asking, that stopped me from taking the A+
<midfavila>
yeah fair
<kris_>
it costs too much money for me to want to attempt to run it in a VM
<midfavila>
i wanted to take it when i was in NB but there were no testing centres in my city
<midfavila>
fortunately i am now approximately 600 metres from a testing centre
<kris_>
i figure im going to just have to set up a dedicated garbage PC to run windows and proctoring software on and put it on a different network
<midfavila>
altho considering my home internet connection is only 5/5 i doubt it would be sufficient for proctoring anyway
<kris_>
i may be mildly insane but i dont trust windows enough to be on the same network as my actual machines, let alone that bullshit they make you install
<midfavila>
kris_ yeah just subnet it and stick a firewall between it and the rest of things
<kris_>
yerp
<midfavila>
merp

<midfavila>
i know alcatel did for a while

there may be a strat there
<kris_>
linux admins are aplenty, bsd admins less so, plan 9 admins don't exist
<midfavila>
i wonder why
* midfavila
thoinks
<kris_>
ive been considering getting deeper into fortran and cobol
<kris_>
ive seen multiple jobs that pay stupid amounts of money for fortran devs
<midfavila>
honestly if you can do cobol go for it
<midfavila>
infinite job security
<kris_>
fortran was one of my first "real" languages
<midfavila>
the only people who know cobol are sitting in like, old age homes these days
<kris_>
toyed with it before C
<midfavila>
i saw IBM was offering free lessons in cobol and fortran a while back
<midfavila>
same with z/OS
<kris_>
oh i dont know the first thing about cobol but it can be learned
<midfavila>
ive honestly given up on getting a job programming
<midfavila>
i have negative interest in the web and it's basically impossible for me to go to university at this point so
<midfavila>
meh

honestly with the way dev has gone the past few years esp i definitely don't want to do it professionally
<midfavila>
the whole "move fast break things" mindset makes me want to puke
<kris_>
yeah, which is partially why i'm so picky about what distros i'll use
vulpine has joined #kisslinux
<kris_>
but software dev will probably be a dead profession at some point:tm: '

<midfavila>
get it over with

kris_: using any other dns would solve this in any case. luckiy my goverent doesnt really do anything about torrenting, so I dont strictly need a vpn for this
<sad_plan>
midfavila: in a few years, only the rich would afford housing. the rest of us would be homeless and jobless, living in a ditch someplace fighting for scraps :p
<sad_plan>
and computer jesus Dylan's farm would be raided eventually. even his POSIX sh famring scripts cant save him from the devestation

sad_plan yeah its no big deal
<kris_>
riteo all good
<sewn>
install(1) is not posix compliant..
<sewn>
i finally reached into an issue with a bsd user where i use install -t flag which is not present in freebsd install
<sewn>
time to resort to regular cp/mv/rm ...
<sewn>
... or add a / to the end of the destination directory as an alternative to -t :3
<sad_plan>
sewn: this is old news really. dylan complained about this long time ago aswell. so we have to use chmod cp/mv instead when installing
<sewn>
so bad

also apparently the -t workaround doesnt work either
<sad_plan>
just dont use install(1) and youre all good C:
<aosync>
install(1) is a bit confusing
<sad_plan>
aosync: theres nothing confusing about install(1), just dont use it :p
<sad_plan>
hm, sewn sbase install mentions its a mix of gnu's and freebsd. curious
<sewn>
I just ranted for half an hour about how terrible freebsd and POSIX make is
<sad_plan>
funny :p
<kris_>
ranting for half an hour over make is pretty based
