<sewn> https://envs.sh/5Ll.png is 100% Xwayland usage normal?
<leon-p> no, not really
<TheAnachron> sewn which app is running on xwayland?
<sewn> i was trying to run spotify :p
<TheAnachron> maybe redirect it to a logfile and check what it's doing? if that is not enough, one probably can use an strace.
<sewn> restarting river had fixed it already
<sewn> spotify has no special error information because out of the box its just gonna run in Xwayland. there are methods of running it natively in wayland (because its electron) but i lose some functionality there
<TheAnachron> uh oh, electron. /hides
<TheAnachron> you could try to use some of the cli players. I love CLI tooling :-)

<leon-p> it's not really about CLI vs GUI, a well written GUI is also efficient
<leon-p> and for a music player at least I really want to see album art, so terminal applications aren't really well suited
<leon-p> still on cmus though, because it's the only bearable music player
<leon-p> (or in other words, if you don't want to be disillusioned about terminal applications, don't write a TUI library and an entire TUI application suite)
<ifreund> I think terminals are a terrible abstraction, there is a better narrow waist for doing rich TUI stuff

<sewn> spotify_player is so much better, yes.
<sewn> has sixel so albums no issue
<Franciman> sewn: what is spotify_player?
<sewn> https://github.com/aome510/spotify-player, better (no spotifyd, and more actions) and actually maintained unlike spotify-tui >:(
<Franciman> awesome, thanks
<Franciman> spotifyd was giving problems for me
<sewn> glad to move another user
<Franciman> sewn: do you have a similar tip for telegram?
<sewn> i only use telegram for android roms, so its only on my phone. lmk if you find something though.
<sewn> there seems to be https://github.com/FedericoBruzzone/tgt which looks good.
<Franciman> the best i could find was a tui for matrix
<Franciman> and then use matrix's bridge to telegram
<sewn> which i believe would be gomuks?
<Franciman> yup
<Franciman> that one doesn't seem bad
<Franciman> i think there is also telegram-cli
<Franciman> but not a tui
<sewn> matrix.org has an official bridge for telegram or is it the other way around ?
<Franciman> matrix provides one
<sewn> nice

<TheAnachron> leon-p: most tools are better than anything written for electron.
<leon-p> reasonable assessment
<leon-p> still, most TUI apps are bad, both because terminals are miserable application platforms and because a lot of developers don't seem to care
<leon-p> at my uni office I actually don't open a terminal any more most days, just emacs and firefox
<leon-p> only need terminal for ssh-ing into the camera computer

<TheAnachron> I love owning my own data and having the ability to automate things. That's not reasonable to expect from a GUI application.
<TheAnachron> There are of course exceptions for this. But mostly CLI apps fit the bill. TUI apps often come with a client that allows for Automation or has event hooks.
