started playing with river today - it's pretty neat. I do miss tabbed/stacking layouts from sway; is there a way to mimic that?

elagost: not really, unless you want all currently displayed windows stacked (see the community layouts section in the wiki). #1100 will open up a lot of possibilities though

I frequently dock my laptop and use an external monitor - how would I make sure all active tags show up on the external monitor when I plug it in?
<leon-p>
elagost: each output ("monitor") has it's own set of tags
<leon-p>
if you want windows to move over to that output, right now the best way is to disable the laptops internal output
<leon-p>
river currently does not support the kind of scripting that would be needed to move the windows over otherwise
<leon-p>
as with so many questions, the answer is to wait for #1100

Thanks - I'll be patient, then. (disabling the output, using 'kanshi', didn't seem to make much of a difference, and the windows stayed hidden)
<elagost>
actually it did work, kanshi just didn't automatically reload.

<Nickli>
can't you move windows to a tag via script with riverctl?
<ifreund>
there's not really any way to target a window other than the currently focused window for most commands
<ifreund>
which makes scripting quite limited currently
<Nickli>
oh right, it wouldnt move already existing ones either?

I only ever use one monitor so just disabling the laptop is fine, and works. It's just that kanshi doesn't auto reload on monitor hotplug in river, like it does in sway. So, likely a kanshi problem?
leopoldek has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<ifreund>
elagost: do you have kanshi config for both states defined?
<ifreund>
iirc there was a kanshi bug related to this but was fixed a while ago
<elagost>
Oh, interesting. I do have both states defined.
<elagost>
So when I plug in the monitor, it does switch off the laptop, and turn on the monitor with the right settings, but the tags don't migrate. When I run 'kanshictl reload' again, it does move the tags over.
<leon-p>
what's your river version?
<elagost>
river 0.3.5, kanshi 1.7.0, alpine linux edge.
