Hey folks, I'm diving back into exploring the implementation of IME_popup. If I'm looking to innovate with a new popup window, what steps should I take?
<leviathan>
Should I create a scene tree? Set the scene node positions?

I mentioned a white flash in Firefox issue a few weeks ago and I was told that it might be a GTK issue.
<ayushnix>
after a lot of wasted days and troubleshooting, it turns out that this issue happens in sway/wlroots no matter what I do or don't do in Firefox
<ayushnix>
but I'm still not sure if it's a firefox issue, a sway issue, or a wlroots issue
<LarstiQ>
ayushnix: does the colour change if you pick a different Firefox theme? I also have some Firefox flashing though it looks a bit different
<ayushnix>
LarstiQ, I'm using the auto theme in Firefox
<ayushnix>
haven't tested with dark themes or other themes
<ayushnix>
I'm building the latest river and will test Firefox on it. If it keeps on flashing on river as well, it's probably a wlroots issue then?
<LarstiQ>
well, it might be wlroots-Firefox interaction, could be a bug on either side or a different interpretation of an interface
<ifreund>
ayushnix: that sounds like a Firefox issue to me, probably due to the fact that it hacks around GTK limitations by rendering everything in a desync subsurface
<ifreund>
I doubt there's anything to be done on the river/wlroots side of things
<ayushnix>
ifreund, have you experienced this issue in river?
<ayushnix>
in any case, I've linked the bug report I've raised in bugzilla
<ayushnix>
if someone else has the same issue, please attach any other relevant info that you think I may have missed
<ayushnix>
because I've been experiencing this issue for more than an year now
<ifreund>
ayushnix: its pretty easy to see white areas when resizing Firefox. The white is the root surface of the xdg toplevel drawn by gtk. Since all of the actual Firefox content is on a desync subsurface its inherently racy whether the Firefox subsurface is resized at the same time as the xdg toplevel or not.
<ifreund>
afaik the only way to fix this is to change Firefox to not do this massive hack of using a desync subsurface for everything

ifreund, this doesn't happen in latest KDE plasma though. Maybe they're doing something different?

Just wanted to pop in and say that I've been having such a fantastic time with River for the last week - I love that it stays out of my way, the init-based config, how solid and reliable it feels. Thanks to all the contributors!
<lowercasename>
The `rivertile` generator feels dwm-y to me, although I can't remember exactly how dwm worked, I last used it maybe ten years ago. It makes so much more sense to me than i3/sway's default logic!
<lowercasename>
Are there major benefits to any of the other generators?
<novakane>
lowercasename: dépends on what you want, if all features you need are in rivertile then no, other layout generators will not have any advantages
<lowercasename>
I am a simple person, I see my third terminal window take up half the height of the second column when I open it, I'm happy. :P
<lowercasename>
I suppose admittedly when I open a new window, it would be nice if it didn't take up the main view box
<lowercasename>
But opened in the seconday view area instead
<lowercasename>
But I'm not too fussed.
<novakane>
lowercasename: you can change that with default-attach-mode bottom
<lowercasename>
Oh, amazing!
<novakane>
or just attach-mode of you're not on master branch
<lowercasename>
That works great, thanks!

what's a tool i can use to get a window's title again?

<revsuine>
and I was wondering how to use inhibit idle? Swayidle keeps turning my screen off while watching youtube videos, would appreciate if I could just have it disabled for full screen firefox (or if I could regex match for the title containing youtube would be even better, cause I don't always have it full screened, but just having a rule to inhibit
<revsuine>
idle for full screen firefox is good enough for me)
<revsuine>
Also unrelated question but is it possible to automatically enable num lock when I launch River? I tried looking through the xkeyboard-config options but I didn't see ones that actually just enable num lock
