<liquie> hi! new to wayland and i'm loving river so far but my macbook's hidpi screen is causing a few issues. i have riverctl spawn 'wlr-randr --output eDP-1 --scale 2' in my init and everything is perfect except for steam and games looking very blurry. would anyone please tell me if there is a way to use scale 1 only with specific apps?
<leon-p> I don't think there is. The blurry applications are likely all going through XWayland
<leon-p> there are fixes for that in XWayland upstream IIRC, so ideally you just need to wait until they arrive at your distribution
<leon-p> for now you could also manually switch the scale of the output to 1 while you are playing those games and switch back to 2 later, as a workaround
<LarstiQ> pretty sure leon-p is right about that, I've disabled XWayland and haven't seen any blurring on my macbook
<liquie> oh? good to know! i'm using arch, i'll look how to disable xwayland. thanks a lot :)
<ifreund> liquie: disabling Xwayland will mean you cant run X11 programs like steam at all
<liquie> oh i should've realized that, silly me... oops. so the best option is to alternate between scale 1 and 2?
<adamcstephens> or just live with the fuzzy fonts
<ifreund> yeah, not much that can be done without new features upstream in Xwayland afaik
<ifreund> this is one of the several MRs that has tried to fix this: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/merge_requests/733
<ifreund> it seems to be a hard problem though due to the design of X11
<liquie> okay! i'll stay with river anyway, it's been a joy to use so far :)
<liquie> thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, appreciate it!
<ifreund> no problem, glad river is proving useful to you :)
