<lordmzte> ifreund: I see. Maybe we should still consider using a workaround in river for now? Screenshare works on Hyprland for me without issues, so I assume that's possible (although it might be the different desktop portal, not sure)
<lordmzte> On a separate note: Is there some way I can make rivertile's options, namely the main ration and main direction be specific to tags? I'd like to have 2 tags where these are set differently on one output. Now, to be totally honest, I have no idea how this would be implemented in rivertile and how it'd behave when multiple tags are active, but it bothers me a little :P
<LarstiQ> lordmzte: not in rivertile, but some of the other layout generators do have tag specifics
<lordmzte> I see. Well, I want to write my own anyways :P
<novakane> ifreund: alright got chimera linux with river running :D
<ifreund> nice :)
<novakane> spent too much time figuring out why river wouldn't works, forgot my init use bash and didn't installed it, that's a new one :P

<ifreund> heh, I definitely had some random scripts in my dotfiles break due to the FreeBSD coreutils having a much more sane feature set
<ifreund> e.g. instead of using obscure cp options that nobody will understand without opening up a man page, I had to switch to a simple loop here: https://github.com/ifreund/dotfiles/commit/3d993383c322d5e25f872c94a11a3f86326cf08b

<novakane> ifreund: oh I do use this script, I need to look at this
<novakane> also I wrote sudo way too often xD
<ifreund> I've been using doas for ages so that hasn't been an issue for me at least :)
<novakane> have you tried using user service for like rivertile or something ?
<ifreund> novakane: I've been too lazy so far, it should be pretty easy though
<ifreund> just `dinitctl setenv WAYLAND_DISPLAY` and then start the services from your river init
<ifreund> eventually chimera will make that a bit nicer with some kind of graphical user services support but the manual version should be fine for now
<novakane> yeah I didn't have the time to look at it yet, but seems simple enough
<novakane> I just installed river, foot, Firefox and kakoune, the rest is for later

<ifreund> novakane: that url is correct, but the repo itself will probably get deleted/recreated during the migration
<ifreund> so that I can use the codeberg migration feature to import the github issues and PRs
<novakane> alright thanks, although I think I have a PR for 0.3.0 so I'll wait anyway

<coding-agent> Hi
<coding-agent> Has anyone had issues with font size in river?
<coding-agent> Been trying to change the font size but not sure how it works in river
<novakane> coding-agent: font size of what? that's on clients side
<coding-agent> hmm
<coding-agent> not sure
<coding-agent> I just changed from hyprland to river and the sizes seemed smaller
<coding-agent> tbh I dont know why
<waleee> coding-agent: for which clients? (in this case == app/program)
<coding-agent> oh understood
<coding-agent> foot, waybar, the splash on hyprpaper, firefox
<coding-agent> the only program I have with the right font size is rofi
<coding-agent> and easy effect is also working fine

<waleee> there's some cairo font-stuff in hyprland at https://github.com/hyprwm/Hyprland/blob/main/src/render/OpenGL.cpp#L1908, idk if that would affect those apps
<waleee> coding-agent: did you set the font used explicitly in hyprland or did you just configure the fontsize?
<novakane> river should not have anything to do with fonts, could be scaling or something like that maybe
<ifreund> wayland compositors don't render the fonts of clients, the wayland clients do that
<ifreund> something else in your configuration is different
<coding-agent> I see
<coding-agent> not sure why then

<coding-agent> Can I ask a feature here?
<coding-agent> Can we maybe have a riverctl list-outputs to have the monitors?
<ifreund> you can use wlr-randr for that...
<coding-agent> not sure how to build zig-wayland yet in zig master version yet
<waleee> the library quite clearly states "Zig 0.11 bindings for ..." in the README
<coding-agent> let me check
<coding-agent> oh, yeah that's what I mean
<coding-agent> the problem is I am only using master version
<coding-agent> so I can't import it
<waleee> master version of zig or master version of river/zig-wayland/...?
<coding-agent> master version of zig
<novakane> yeah none of river deps will works with zig master
<coding-agent> exactly
<waleee> do you need zig master for anything?
<waleee> otherwise the solution is really quite straightforward
<coding-agent> yep a program that I already have for have for hyprland and hyprpaper
<coding-agent> I made it possible to use with river
<coding-agent> and hyprpaper
<coding-agent> but in Hyprland I communicate with IPC (socket) to ask monitor details
<coding-agent> and I can't check monitors in riverctl
<coding-agent> so I can either rewrite my program 0.11 or find a way to get the monitors with river or zig-wayland
<waleee> honestly if you're developing a program it's probably better/easier to track the release versions of zig
<waleee> of course that depends if you're only making it for your own usage
<coding-agent> well, there are other people using master as well
<coding-agent> ofc my own usage is a must for a program imo but I also want to make it useful for others
<waleee> you get a whole lot less issues that boils down to others being on a different zig commit than you
<waleee> because, as you just saw, people don'
<novakane> it's really easy to have multiple version on your system with zig tarball
<waleee> t always read the README's in detail
<waleee> also what novakane said
<coding-agent> I can agree with that
<coding-agent> I also use a version manager so its easy to swap between zig versions
<coding-agent> I made the program before even thinking I would use river tbh
