drive emulator time, even if you have to make it yourself
<zid>
That'show most people do retro PC stuff these days, compactflash card plugged into an emulator
<zid>
(CF is close enough that a lot of it is pass-through though so it's mainly like.. an electrical adapter?)
<nikolar>
this is scsi
<nikolar>
so CF is basically IDE
<nikolar>
you need some active logic regardless

<geist>
indeed. i have been using zuluscsis for old machines
<geist>
even have one on the PDP-11
<geist>
closely related to bluescsi since they're RP2040 based
<geist>
works great, etc. main downside is you get no hard drive noise, which i really like on old machines
<zid>
I've seen an emulator that made noises :D

yeah i've seen at least one little project that you put inline to IDE or maybe it was just plug into the IDE LED on a PC that has alittle clicker
<geist>
would be harder for scsi i think since you'd have to interpret the commands to do it properly, but IDE i think you can just observe any traffic at all

<Ermine>
when running in qemu, can I insert a breakpoint right where grub hands over control to the kernel?
<heat_>
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not really
<heat_>
i mean if you know where grub is actually located and have symbols, etc, probably. otherwise no
<Ermine>
that's pity
<heat_>
is this related to tha onyx problem?
<Ermine>
yes

does control never reach the kernel?
<Ermine>
idk, but I think it does
<heat_>
why do you want to add a breakpoint to grub then?
