<CynicalDebian> Hello, is it possible to mute the speaker and just use the audio jack on Leste on the N900?

<sicelo> yes
<sicelo> i believe that if your system is up-to-date, you'll have ucm2 configured, which probably already does that
<sicelo> if you're using alsamixer or similar, you can just mute the 'Speaker' entry

<bencoh> sicelo: I'd expect pulseaaudio to unmute speaker whenever it feels like it (?)
<sicelo> i think it respects whatever ucm2 says ... but i admit i don't have a lot of experience either
<bencoh> I understood the question as "I never want the speaker to make sound", but maybe I'm wrong
<sicelo> ah, i thought they meant muting speakers when headphones connected
<sicelo> ootb, both speaker and headphone will output sound simultaneously
<bencoh> ah

<arno11> Wizzup: sicelo: N900 UCM files on gh are buggy with last kernel update. The files from my email (07/02/23) works well.

<arno11> Wizzup: thank you
<Wizzup> sorry for the delay
<Wizzup> normally I just push it out without testing, but now I was waiting for the chat between you and sicelo to pan out :D
<arno11> ok :)
<Wizzup> I'm hoping to get close to done with the news post today
<Wizzup> do you want to share some story or video regarding n900calls?
<Wizzup> in the post
<arno11> thank you but i don't like social web stuff too much lol
<arno11> i prefer spending time to write a clear documentation for the ML :)
<Wizzup> It's not really social, it's just updates for people who follow us
<Wizzup> but ok :)
<arno11> yeah i know the news post

fab has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Wizzup> arno11: ok
<arno11> it works but latency is really too low so sound is crappy. Need to find a way in the code or in PA conf to increase it.
<Wizzup> right

<arno11> i'll let you know and probably need help to understand WGO
<Wizzup> WGO?
<arno11> what's going on
<Wizzup> ah
<arno11> otherwise 3G-3.5G is ok
<Wizzup> great
<sicelo> Wizzup: which discussion with arno11? :-)
<sicelo> I would say let's build what we already have, and we'll refine as we go along
<Wizzup> did that already
<Wizzup> :)
<sicelo> sweet
<Wizzup> looking to move stuff from -devel to stable
<sicelo> arno11: regarding the earpiece, have a look at pavel's unicsy-demo. He had an asound.state that i believe worked
<sicelo> worked for earpiece, that is
<arno11> oh cool
<arno11> should be easy if this asound state works
<arno11> i'll try to have a look this afternoon

<CynicalDebian> sicelo: Yes, I was talking about the headphone jack. I was using the image from June 18 2023, so this is something being fixed? Or can I accomplish it in Alsamixer?
<Wizzup> you need chimaera-devel
<CynicalDebian> Wizzup: I see, thank you ^_^!
<CynicalDebian> Wizzup: Is that these images? https://maedevu.maemo.org/images-devel/n900/
<Wizzup> yes, but you can just apt upgrade to them
<Wizzup> no need to install a new image
<CynicalDebian> Oh ok, by just modifying the sources.list?
<Wizzup> CynicalDebian: yes, sorry, I got distracted with work stuff
<Wizzup> we must have an article about this on our wiki
<Wizzup> do this, but replace beowulf with chimaera
<Wizzup> and ensure that it doesn't say droid4 but n900

<Wizzup> please let us know it helped
<CynicalDebian> Well, now it is booting to a black screen :(. I think this was "user-error" on my part though (I may have accidentally turned it off while it was building the kernel).
<CynicalDebian> I am able to boot in Fraementle just fine, so I should try with a new image (and upgrade over ssh this time >_>)
<CynicalDebian> Yeah it has been on a black screen for 5 minutes, I will try again later today.

<arno11> sicelo: i tried Pavel's asound.state and i got a bad result: lot of noise, earphone not working and appearing deactivated. Sounds like something else is blocking earphone. That's why i was asking about kernel modules previously.
<arno11> when i say 'bad result' it wasn't so bad lol but not as good as expected.
<arno11> Wizzup: i tried few things with 2G calls and still not working properly.
<arno11> i think it's a resampling issue, so more related to alsa stuff than cmtspeech
<Wizzup> ok
<Wizzup> so could be related to latency we set?
<arno11> i think latency is not the root cause
<arno11> just a consequence
<Wizzup> hm, well 2g latency is not the same as 3g right?
<Wizzup> like in general
<arno11> yeah very different
<arno11> i mean it's easy to modify 3G latency, playing with cmtspeec code or resampling
<arno11> not with 2G
<arno11> few weeks ago i was able to use soxr resampling to improve 2G latency
<arno11> it doesn't work anymore
<arno11> now whatever i do, 2G latency stays locked at arround 20ms
<arno11> and it's really too low for N900 cpu
<sicelo> arno11: ah ... did you try more of the 'b' alsamixer items?
<arno11> sicelo: yes
<Wizzup> arno11: right, but in the past I was able to change this in PA, right?
<Wizzup> the latency
<arno11> it was a bias
<Wizzup> arno11: btw do you know after what time we can load the nokia-modem module?
<arno11> good question
<arno11> i think just after hildon starts loading
<Wizzup> just after all the other modules are loaded?
<Wizzup> hm
<arno11> yes
<arno11> we can try before but definitely after all other modules
<Wizzup> modprobe.d has a softdep ar
<Wizzup> g
<Wizzup> I mean otherwise I can just make a script that runs on boot after hildon is ready
<Wizzup> but that's not ideal technically
<arno11> yes indeed
<arno11> but could be a good start to test the right moment
<arno11> oh and iirc sphone must start after the modem to avoid ofono/sphone crash.
<arno11> sicelo: i tried to use block b with my config with no result.
<arno11> same with Pavel asound.state -block b left and right stuff are in use in his config-
<sicelo> i'll have a look some day. still fighting with some kernel problem
<arno11> ah ok
<Wizzup> arno11: do you have more than one n900?
<Wizzup> or do you have fremantle on it still?
<Wizzup> maybe just to check that the earpeace does work on fremantle
<arno11> just one but it works well with my fremantle
<arno11> that's the first thing i tried
<Wizzup> ok
<arno11> there are arround 230 mixers to set and monitor, maybe i missed something
<arno11> *forgot
<sicelo> although i didn't look very closely at the driver, i didn't quickly see where/how it activates the B block ... so that could possibly explain the behavior you observe
<arno11> oh ok
<sicelo> pavel had YT videos which showed off his n900 work
<arno11> ok i didn't know that
<sicelo> let me check if he had earpiece working there ... of course you could also just ask him via the email he once replied on
<sicelo> if he did, we can maybe see what has changed in the driver since his time
<arno11> right
<Wizzup> he usually replies really fast to emails
<sicelo> otherwise there's no additional module/driver needed. that tlv320 handles all the audio on N900
<arno11> ok
