<Wizzup_> btw, the weather app might want to check if it's connected to the internet instead of polling when it's not

<freemangordon> there is even a library for that (connic)

<dsc_> Wizzup_: it is not in a tight infinite poll loop when there is no internet, it tries to reuqest every 3sec
<dsc_> but ux-wise can def. be better yeah
<dsc_> whats connic?
<buZz> shouldnt it hook into iphb?
<buZz> for polling-with-low-battery-usage
<dsc_> le0nklcpp: I tried vulture, compiling took 2.5hours still! :D
<dsc_> buZz: being able to detect changes in internet status would be nice
<buZz> right, but iphb is hype, it bundles 'polling internet services' to all happen at once
<buZz> preventing radio needing to be 'on' all the time
<Wizzup_> dsc_: I will explain connic tonight/tomorrow
<Wizzup_> it's basically a lib to icd2
<Wizzup_> so you can get notified when there is internet
<dsc_> cool
<bencoh> buZz: you mean it's 12yo hype :>
<buZz> right :)
<bencoh> (wait, 14yo actually)
<buZz> hehe
<sicelo> funny thing is ... the modern linux OSes still perform badly wrt. power management, even though they have the benefit of hindsight
<sicelo> yesterday i tried sxmo on my nokia n900 ... and cpu was stuck at 100% the entire time 🤷‍♂️
<buZz> sicelo: its kinda weird though
<buZz> 'back in the day' if you wanted higher batterytime from laptop -> install linux
<buZz> i guess it flipped somewhere
<freemangordon> buZz: it is still the case re laptops
<buZz> just not on ARM?
<freemangordon> looks like
<freemangordon> I am easily getting > 7 hours of usage from my dell laptop
<freemangordon> *usage*, not standby
<freemangordon> that's with ubuntu 18.04
<le0nklcpp> Wizzup_: what about my jenkins account?I wrote an email yesterday
<buZz> freemangordon: my exynos 5800 laptop does ~10hrs of usage :)
<buZz> with a very shitty archlinuxarm install
<freemangordon> well, I guess there is no i7 in it :)

<freemangordon> well, openssl compiles in under a minute ;)
<freemangordon> sorry
<freemangordon> not openssl, but wpa_supplicant
<freemangordon> anyway
<buZz> now try libboost with all modules enabled
<buZz> :D
<freemangordon> well, not now :p

<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: I saw your msg regarding the jenkins account, I'll see if I can set up the roles now
<le0nklcpp> Wizzup_: thanks
<Wizzup_> I've been moving to a new place / renovating and this has taken a toll on my spare time / energy :D
<Wizzup_> usually I'm faster
<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: you should be able to trigger a build now on https://phoenix.maemo.org/job/vulture-browser-source/build?delay=0sec - make sure to set the distribution to chimaera
<le0nklcpp> Wizzup_: it's ok I can wait. It seems to work
akossh has joined #maemo-leste
<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: you can follow along in ##leste-ci
<Wizzup_> (your build)
<Wizzup_> it looks like it's really only doing a build on amd64
<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: ah, you set architecture all
<Wizzup_> it should be architecture any
<Wizzup_> and debian/compat doesn't match debian/control's debhelper-compat line (=13)
<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: so 'Architecture: all' -> 'Architecture: any'
<Wizzup_> and then change either debian/compat or debhelper-compat in debian/control to match
<le0nklcpp> Oh I'm sorry fixing
<le0nklcpp> now it fails on amd64
<Wizzup_> dpkg-source: warning: unknown information field 'Version' in input data in package's section of control info file fakeroot debian/rules clean
<Wizzup_> dh clean --buildsystem=cmake
<Wizzup_> dh: warning: Please specify the debhelper compat level exactly once.
<Wizzup_> dh: warning: * debian/compat requests compat 13.
<Wizzup_> dh: warning: * debian/control requests compat 13 via "debhelper-compat (= 13)"
<Wizzup_> did you push the compat changes to maemo/chimaera ?
<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: ah, my instruction was wrong
<Wizzup_> you need to git rm debian/compat
<le0nklcpp> and then just push?
<Wizzup_> commit and push, but wait a second
<Wizzup_> the Version: field in debian/control is also not a 'real' field I think
<Wizzup_> I am not sure if you need to re-tag, since the armhf build still says: itwon't build for armhf (same for arm64)
<Wizzup_> see:
<Wizzup_> + grep -q '^Architecture: all' vulture-browser-23.04.1/debian/control
<Wizzup_> + grep -q '^Architecture: .*any' vulture-browser-23.04.1/debian/control
<Wizzup_> + SKIP_ARCH_BUILD=true
<Wizzup_> so somehow it still sees 'Architecture: all' in debian/control
<Wizzup_> so maybe push a new tag too
<Wizzup_> brb
akossh has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]

<le0nklcpp> I also recreated tag after changing architecture

<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: maybe a new tag (bump) is usually more consistent for me
<Wizzup_> I don't know if jenkins caches tags
<le0nklcpp> and.. new tag build fails too
<le0nklcpp> ah, it seems i need to change it to 23.04.2
<le0nklcpp> done
<le0nklcpp> seems that it ignores debian_revision

<le0nklcpp> it builds well on a chroot environment, if that's the reason I guess I can just turn them off
<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: looks like it fails because of the tests yes
<maemish_> New Leste image booted nicely without problems!
<le0nklcpp> Finally!It is in repos!
<le0nklcpp> however Jenkins ignores git tag name
<le0nklcpp> It appears in debian directory :)
<le0nklcpp> crashed 2 times, like it happened before, was it after updates or is it browser issue, but it works now
<le0nklcpp> thx everyone
<le0nklcpp> Well wanted to say it's 2 times slower than QtWebBrowser
<dsc_> 10 times :P
<le0nklcpp> ok even 10 on some sites
<le0nklcpp> is it appropriate to upload all changes in chimaera?
<le0nklcpp> extras*
<freemangordon> le0nklcpp: are you sure gles2 accel is enabled?
arno11 has joined #maemo-leste
<le0nklcpp> I'm not, only these flags are applied --enable-oop-rasterization --enable-gpu-rasterization --enable-native-gpu-memory-buffers --use-gl=desktop
<freemangordon> --use-gl=desktop won't work on mobile
<freemangordon> so I guess it is doing CPU rendering

<arno11> Wizzup_: sicelo: n900 voice calls seem ready to use. i'll do few more debugging to be sure and send you an email with changes + PA config + process to start cmtspeech and ofono with no troubles ASAP
<Wizzup_> great!
<Wizzup_> this still needs specific asound state yeah?
<arno11> Wizzup: yep
<arno11> so only UCM is missing for now
<Wizzup_> ok
<arno11> btw do you know how to add new controls in alsa ?
<Wizzup_> I think we need this in kernel or in dts, what ones do you miss?
<arno11> ah ok makes sense. i need earphone volume and another one i don't remember lol
<arno11> if it's in dts i can have a look
<Wizzup_> maybe the volume is merged with regular volume and you need to change some other switch?
<le0nklcpp> freemangordon: please tell how to enable gles? Would using --use-gl=egl be enough?
<maemish_> Managed to install leste, make swap, overclock and edit transitions. I could make suggestions on the instruction page for N900. To whom could I sent it to check?
<Wizzup_> make a wiki account and make them? :D
<Wizzup_> just keep in mind if they will work age well with time
<arno11> Wizzup_: maybe but really not sure
<Wizzup_> if you can write up some text we can ask the linux-omap mailing list
<arno11> Wizzup_: good idea
<maemish_> Will write. Now just playing finally with leste. Gonna try more tweaks to transitions.
<arno11> maemish_: happy leste works for you :)
<maemish_> I would really love to have loadapplet from Fremantle to see on the top bar cpu and ram usage as a vertical bars. Helps to see pages are loading etc. and to wait before clicking and jamming the device.
<Wizzup_> tbh for me that is a sign that the n900 is too old for the things you want it to do, but yeah :p
<Wizzup_> I still use it every day, just not for browsing and such
<Wizzup_> but maybe we can make it work somehow
<Wizzup_> le0nklcpp: egl is at least a step in the good direction
<sicelo> arno11: that's great news (re: calls)!
<sicelo> arno11: what's the problem with headphone? ... you mention it needs kernel work
<arno11> sicelo: i can't use earphone during calls. only HP. seems few controls are missing compared to fremantle
<Wizzup_> it's likely that fremantle controls will not match 1:1 mainline controls
<Wizzup_> due to how mainline linux evolved
<arno11> Wizzup: thx for this better explaination :)

<maemish_> Any easy way to get all apps I wan't to be on the main desktop on Leste? Meaning launcher icons for them. The desktop settings do not give possibility for debian side apps but neither the ones installed from application manager.
<sixwheeledbeast> They don't auto populate. You add shortcuts from the "cog" menu
<maemish_> cog?
<sixwheeledbeast> tap blank space on the the desktop you get a "cog" aka "gear" popup top right.
<sixwheeledbeast> or long press desktop
<maemish_> Yes but as I said above you won't get all apps from there
<sixwheeledbeast> They are .desktop files you can make them and add them.
<sixwheeledbeast> it's been a good while since I have done it.
<maemish_> And that was my question: how?
<sixwheeledbeast> I'd imagine it's in /usr/share
<sixwheeledbeast> /usr/share/applications/hildon
<maemish_> Thanks! Will try to learn.
